One safe way is to always reverse down into your garage or driveway so
that when you leave you will see clearer who's immeadiately in front
of you.
Being prepared to stop means being alert and aware.

Excellent idea - run the kids over when you arrive home rather than when
you go to work.

If there is nobody around to control the child, why not put it in the car
while reversing?
But surely reins would be the best way to stop it getting behind a reversing
car?

If you reverse into your drive your vision covers every angle the
entire manovoure but if you reverse out there is a great distance
where a child could wander behind the vehicle or could already be
there if your exiting a garage.

_______________

The blind spot behind the reversing car is the same whichever you are doing.

I am exactly 2 degrees of separation from this family,
it is a bloody awful, horrible tragedy
my heart really goes out to the family and the community from whom
this darling wee angel has been so tragically taken.

Every time....NEVER...NEVER...NEVER did we drive on the

me too and weren't you and me oh so very........very...... very
lucky.........aye
however .......... one of my family had her leg run over as a child,
sitting at the edge of a driveway, fortunately she was fine with no
injury.
The person driving knew exactly where she was when he hopped into the
car,

you can know where they are one minute...........and they're gone the
next

like all accidents; all it takes is one split second.............aye

Time for mandatory looping driveways ?

Or is it natural selection - maybe even divine intervention?

I suppose my natural athiest question is - why does God allow a
driveway accident to happen every fortnight in NZ?

Doesn't he/she/it care?

whatever that means

isn't it interesting how closely connected everyone is

a person posts an item on this newsgroup about a family they have
never previously met or heard of and someone pops up and knows'm or
knows of'm.

So that makes you ......... and the people who have replied to this
thread
only 3 degrees of separation from the family they are talking about.

Why does he allow one of the highest rate of Melanoma and pnumonia.
Cause he gives the freedomto choose.
Go out in the rain go out in the sunshgine and play car mad hero but
do it all in moderation and espeacially take care not to harm others
while your doing it.

I knew that would be the answer.

So - with free choice - why pray?

Seems that devine intervention odds are worse than winning the lotto -
say five or so billion to one against?

Why pray .
Thats simple.
Because prayer puts the focus one a single worry.
Allows the brain to find the answer placing other matters to the
side .
Gives the bodies energies a unity and makes the seemingly impossible
merely the end of a sequence of steps.

Seriously, you could stake the playpen in the middle of the lawn, if it is
fine enough to be outside.
But keep an eye on it.
Or use a calf pen, as women do who have to take the toddlers milking. That
could stay outside and just be used when something dangerous is happening.

If we all met each other some of us might get a surprise and things might
get a bit acrimonious.
We'd have to watch our language, too.

Here we can debate more or less anonymously without getting thumped.

They know and the birds outside that sing their footsteps across the
neighbourhood that stamp a beat of disclosure.
