CIA Killings Spell Defeat In Afghanistan

“Why?” The grieving family members ask. “Why did the terrorists kill our
loved ones?”

The hardnosed colleagues of the four fallen CIA officers comfort the wives
and children (and one husband). They shake off their sorrow, huddle together
by the graves, and vow vengeance. They bathe themselves in their seething
anger like it was the blood of the lamb.

Why? The American public and its officials ask. Why? The media repeats,
adding in shock and awe, “Don’t the terrorists know that you can’t kill CIA
officers?”

Why, everyone wonders, did a Jordanian suicide bomber target the CIA,
knowing that the wrath of the biggest, baddest, bloodthirstiest Gang on
Planet Earth is going to start dropping bombs and slitting throats until its
lust for death and suffering is satisfied?

Over the course of its sixty year reign of terror, in which it has
overthrown countless governments, started countless wars costing countless
lives, and otherwise subverted and sabotaged friends and foes alike, the CIA
has lost less than 100 officers.

On a good day, one CIA drone, and one CIA hit team, kills 100 innocent women
and children, and nobody bats an eye.

Why would the terrorists suddenly deviate from the norm – the sacred
accommodation – and throw the whole game into chaos?

Why?

OK, I’ll Tell You Why

There is a phenomenon called The Universal Brotherhood of Officers. It
exists in the twilight zone between imagination and in reality, in the fog
of war. It is why officers are separated from enlisted men in POW camps and
given better treatment. It is why officers of opposing armies have more in
common with one another than they have with their own enlisted men.

Officers are trained to think of their subordinate ranks as canon fodder.
Their troops are expendable. They know when they send a unit up a hill, some
will be killed. That is why they do not fraternize with thee lower ranks.
This class distinction exists across the world, and is the basis of the
sacred accommodation. No slobs need apply.

It is why the Bush Family flew the Bin Laden Family, and other Saudi Royals,
out of the United States in the days after 9-11. If anyone was a case
officer to the 9-11 bombers, or had knowledge about the bombers or any
follow-up plots, it was these “protected” people.

CIA officers are at the pinnacle of the Universal Brotherhood. They are the
Protected Few, blessed with false identities and bodyguards, flying in jet
planes, living in villas, eating fancy food and enjoying state of the art
technology. CIA officers tell army generals what to do.They direct
Congressional committees. They assassinate heads of state and innocent
children equally, with impunity, with indifference.

In Afghanistan they manage the drug trade from their hammocks in the
shade.They know the Taliban tax the farmers growing the opium, and they know
that Karzai’s warlords convert the opium into heroin and fly it to the
Russian mob. They are amused by the antics of earnest DEA agents, who, in
their ignorant patriotic bliss, cannot believe such an accommodation exists.

CIA officers are trained to exist in this moral netherworld of protected
drug dealers, for the simple reasons that the CIA in every conflict has a
paramount need to keep secure communication channels open to the enemy. This
is CIA 101. The CIA, as part of its mandate, is authorized to negotiate with
the enemy, but it can only do so as long as the channel is secure and
deniable.

No proof will ever exist, so the American public can be deceived.

Take Iran Contra, when Reagan vowed never to negotiate with terrorists, then
a team to Tehran to sell missiles to thee Iranians and use the money to buy
guns for the drug dealing Contras.

There’s stated and unstated policy – and the CIA is always pursuing the
unstated, which is why it relies so heavily on its patriotic and witless
assets in the mainstream media.

In Afghanistan the accommodation is the environment that allows the CIA to
have a secure channel to the Taliban to negotiate on simple matters like
prisoner exchanges.

The exchange of British journalist Peter Moore for an Iraqi “insurgent” in
CIA custody was an example of how the accommodation works in Iraq. Moore was
held by a Shia group allegedly allied to Iran, and his freedom depended
entirely on the CIA reaching an accommodation with America’s enemies in the
Iraq resistance. The details of such prisoner exchanges are never revealed,
but involve secret negotiations by the CIA and the resistance over issues of
strategic importance to both sides.

The accommodation is the intellectual environment which provides a space for
any eventual reconciliation. There are always preliminary negotiations for a
reconciliation or ceasefire, and in every modern conflict that’s the CIA’s
job.

And the Afghanis want reconciliation. Apart from the US and CIA, Karzai and
his clique at every level have filial relations with the Taliban.

No matter how powerful the CIA is, it can’t overcome that.

Ed Brady, an Army officer detailed to the CIA and assigned to the Phoenix
Directorate in Saigon in 1967 and 1968, explains how the accommodation
worked in Vietnam.

While Brady and his Vietnamese counterpart Colonel Tan were lunching at a
restaurant in Dalat, Tan pointed at a woman eating noodle soup and drinking
Vietnamese coffee at the table next to them. He told Brady that she was the
Viet Cong province chief’s wife. Brady, of course, wanted to grab her and
use her for bait.

Coolly, Colonel Tan said to him: “You don’t understand. You don’t live the
way we live. You don’t have any family here. You’re going to go home when
this operation is over. You don’t think like you’re going to live here
forever. But I have a home and a family and kids that go to school. I have a
wife that has to go to market…. And you want me to go kill his wife? You
want me to set a trap for him and kill him when he comes in to see his wife?
If we do that, what are they going to do to our wives?”

“The VC didn’t run targeted operations against them either,” Brady explains.
“There were set rules that you played by. If you went out and conducted a
military operation and you chased them down fair and square in the jungle
and you had a fight, that was okay. If they ambushed you on the way back
from a military operation, that was fair. But to conduct these clandestine
police operations and really get at the heart of things, that was kind of
immoral to them. That was not cricket. And the Vietnamese were very, very
leery of upsetting that.”

Obama’s Dirty War in Afghanistan relies largely on such clandestine CIA
operations, in which wives and children are used as bait to trap husbands –
or are killed as a way of punishing men in the resistance.

The CIA plays the same role in Afghanistan that the Gestapo played in the
cities and the Einsatzgruppen performed in the countryside for the Nazis in
World War Two – killing and terrorizing the urban resistance and partisan
bands.

Its unstated object is to rip apart working and middle class families and
thus the whole fabric of Afghan society, until the Afghan people accept
American domination, through its suppletif ruling class.1

And this is why the CIA was targeted.

The CIA is utterly predictable. It will invoke the “100-1 Rule” used by the
Gestapo and Einsatzgruppen and go on a killing spree until its vengeance is
satisfied. At the end of the day, the Afghan people will only hate the
Americans more. This makes the CIA happy, on the premise that terror will
make the people submit. But in Afghanistan it spells protracted war, and as
in Vietnam, eventual defeat.

February 22, 2010: In Afghanistan, the battle of Marjah is proving to be
economically stimulating for the locals. That's because the foreign troops
pay several thousand dollars per dead civilian, and less for destroyed
property. Cash is paid out quickly, because most of the later claims are
bogus. Scamming the foreigners for compensation is a popular activity
anytime there is fighting, whether or not there are casualties. For example,
scammers will take advantage of Islamic law stipulating that the dead be
buried the same day, and then claim that empty graves contain the body of a
non-existent family member or friend. Foreign troops are getting better at
detecting the scams, but Afghans still see it as an opportunity, especially
since these attempts are not punished if you are found out (although if you
succeed, local officials or police may demand a cut.)
The compensation program is partly deference to local custom, partly to
compete with similar (but less generous) activity by the Taliban, and partly
because it buys some temporary good will. This makes it easier to for locals
to go for payments offered for information on where the Taliban, or their
assets, are located. An important aspect of this is discretion. Being known
as an informant for the Americans can get you killed eventually. So foreign
troops, particularly Americans, are taught how to develop and protect
informants. Taking compensation from the Americans is not a problem for the
Taliban (who will sometimes demand a cut if they return to the area). But
when providing compensation, locals can be asked if they want to earn an
additional payment for providing information on the Taliban or drug gangs.
No one will know if you walk away with an extra few hundred dollars. The
"cash for tips" program is especially useful if you can maintain a presence
in the area, which is the goal of the Marjah operation, and future ones like
it.

There are also some really huge rewards available. Three years ago, the U.S.
undertook a "Most Wanted" rewards program ($20,000-200,000), and distributed
300,000 posters showing the men responsible for most of the hated suicide
and roadside bombing. This gave Afghans a chance to personalize their
dislike for the bombings, and earn some serious money if they came across
any of those responsible. This program led to a lot of useful tips, and
continues. It is kept quiet, because the Taliban love to find and execute
informers. Sometimes they will just grab someone they don't like, and murder
them for being an "informant." The Taliban now rely more on fear than
admiration

The Israel You Don’t See on the News

For TvNewsLIES.org to take the time to expose media deception when it comes
to the American corporate media’s coverage of Israel and all things related
would be silly at this point in history. It would be like using a flashlight
to point out the sun. The media bias is so obvious that it would be
laughable if it were not so unjust.

What Americans do not realize however, is the extent of media deception and
information control that is official Israeli policy. Yes, by policy and with
the total agreement and cooperation of all the Israeli TV news media,
Israeli military censors have the final say on every single Israeli military
operation that is covered by their media. Every single news item that is
viewed by Israeli citizens on their own media in their own so called
democracy is government censored.

We hear accusations of bias in media outlets like Al Jazeera in the Arab
world and on outlets like FOX News here in America, but we never hear about
the cooperative deception campaign between the Israeli media and their
government.

The world can not blame the Israeli citizens for their harsh opinions of
Palestinians or any other Arabs because they are fed a controlled one sided
and deceptive stream of propaganda masquerading as news.

The most important freedom one can have in a democracy is a truly free press
for without a free press the citizens can never really be sure about the
legitimacy of their democracy. America does not have a national journalism
industry. I challenge anyone who claims different to a public discussion
about this. And Israel clearly does not have a free press and they are quite
open about this.

So I ask all of the blind supporters of Israel this question: If Israeli
news media clearly and openly take part in complete government censorship,
how can you possibly trust them and how can you logically dismiss news and
information that contradicts their claims?

US Envoy Writes of Israeli Threats

In the wake of the accusation by Chas Freeman that his nomination to lead
the National Intelligence Council was derailed by an "Israeli lobby," a
forthcoming memoir by another distinguished ambassador adds stunning new
charges to the debate. The ambassador, John Gunther Dean, writes that over
the years he not only came under pressure from pro-Israeli groups and
officials in Washington but also was the target of an Israeli-inspired
assassination attempt in 1980 in Lebanon, where he had opened links to the
Palestine Liberation Organization.

Dean's suspicions that Israeli agents may have also been involved in the
mysterious plane crash in 1988 that killed Pakistan's president, General
Mohammed Zia ul Haq, led finally to a decision in Washington to declare him
mentally unfit, which forced his resignation from the foreign service after
a thirty-year career. After he left public service, he was rehabilitated by
the State Department, given a distinguished service medal and eventually
encouraged to write his memoirs. Now 82, Dean sees the subsequent positive
attention he has received as proof that the insanity charge (he calls it
Stalinist) was phony, a supposition later confirmed by a former head of the
department's medical service.
Dean, whose memoir is titled Danger Zones: A Diplomat's Fight for America's
Interests, was American ambassador in Lebanon in August 1980 when a
three-car convoy carrying him and his family was attacked near Beirut.

"I was the target of an assassination attempt by terrorists using automatic
rifles and antitank weapons that had been made in the United States and
shipped to Israel," he wrote. "Weapons financed and given by the United
States to Israel were used in an attempt to kill an American diplomat!"
After the event, conspiracy theories abounded in the Middle East about who
could have planned the attack, and why. Lebanon was a dangerously
factionalized country.
The State Department investigated, Dean said, but he was never told what the
conclusion was. He wrote that he "worked the telephone for three weeks" and
met only official silence in Washington. By then Dean had learned from
weapons experts in the United States and Lebanon that the guns and
ammunition used in the attack had been given by Israelis to a Christian
militia allied with them.

"I know as surely as I know anything that Mossad, the Israeli intelligence
agency, was somehow involved in the attack," Dean wrote, describing how he
had been under sharp criticism from Israeli politicians and media for his
contacts with Palestinians. "Undoubtedly using a proxy, our ally Israel had
tried to kill me."
Dean's memoir, to be published in May for the Association for Diplomatic
Studies and Training Memoir Series by New Academia Publishing under its
Vellum imprint, has been read and approved for publication by the State
Department with only very minor changes, none affecting Dean's major points.
Its underlying theme is that American diplomacy should be pursued in
American interests, not those of another country, however friendly. A Jew
whose family fled the Holocaust, Dean resented what he saw as an assumption,
including by some in Congress, that he would promote Israel's interests in
his ambassadorial work.

Dean, a fluent French speaker who began his long diplomatic career opening
American missions in newly independent West African nations in the early
1960s, served later in Vietnam (where he described himself as a "loyal
dissenter") and was ambassador in Cambodia (where he carried out the
American flag as the Khmer Rouge advanced), Denmark, Lebanon, Thailand
(where Chas Freeman was his deputy) and India. He takes credit for averting
bloodshed in Laos in the 1970s by negotiating a coalition government shared
by communist and noncommunist parties.

He was sometimes a disputatious diplomat not afraid to contradict superiors,
and he often took--and still holds--contrarian views. He always believed,
for example, that the United States should have attempted to negotiate with
the Khmer Rouge rather than let the country be overrun by their brutal
horror.

As ambassador in India in the 1980s he supported then-Prime Minister Rajiv
Gandhi's policy of seeking some kind of neutral coalition in Afghanistan
that would keep the American- and Pakistani-armed mujahedeen from
establishing a fundamentalist Islamic state. For several years after the
Soviet withdrawal, India continued to back Najibullah, a thuggish communist
security chief whom the retreating Soviet troops left behind. After the
mujahedeen moved toward Kabul, Najibullah refused a United Nations offer of
safe passage to India. He was slaughtered and left hanging on a lamppost.

It was in the midst of this Soviet endgame in Afghanistan that Dean fell
afoul of the State Department for the last time. After the death of General
Zia in August 1988, in a plane crash that also killed the American
ambassador in Pakistan, Arnold Raphel, Dean was told in New Delhi by
high-ranking officials that Mossad was a possible instigator of the
accident, in which the plane's pilot and co-pilot were apparently disabled
or otherwise lost control. There was also some suspicion that elements of
India's Research and Analysis Wing, its equivalent of the CIA, may have
played a part. India and Israel were alarmed by Pakistan's work on a nuclear
weapon--the "Islamic bomb."

Dean was so concerned about these reports, and the attempt by the State
Department to block a full FBI investigation of the crash in Pakistan, that
he decided to return to Washington for direct consultations. Instead of the
meetings he was promised, he was told his service in India was over. He was
sent into virtual house arrest in Switzerland at a home belonging to the
family of his French wife, Martine Duphenieux. Six weeks later, he was
allowed to return to New Delhi to pack his belongings and return to
Washington, where he resigned.

Suddenly his health record was cleared and his security clearance restored.
He was presented with the Distinguished Service Award and received a warm
letter of praise from Secretary of State George Shultz. "Years later," he
wrote in his memoir, "I learned who had ordered the bogus diagnosis of
mental incapacity against me. It was the same man who had so effusively
praised me once I was gone--George Shultz."

Asked in a telephone conversation last week from his home in Paris why
Shultz had done this to him, Dean would say only, "He was forced to."
