Hotel Council/ITOC MOU
I'm pleased to be here today, to mark the Memorandum of Understanding =
that will be signed today between your two organisations.
---------------------------------
Good afternoon to you all. I'm pleased to be here today, to mark the =
Memorandum of Understanding that will be signed today between your two =
organisations.
One of the most satisfactory things about my time as Tourism Minister =
has been seeing the sector's increasing commitment to working together =
towards real sustainability.
Today, we see another clear example of this commitment. The New Zealand =
Hotel Council (NZHC) and the Inbound Tour Operator's Council (ITOC) are =
two of New Zealand's most influential tourism groups. =20
By signing this MOU, you are clearly illustrating your commitment to =
building greater understanding and best practice between your =
organisations.
Your organisations-two major players in the sector-understand that, for =
us to continue to build on our world-leading reputation, we have to work =
together. =20
That's what real leadership is about in any industry-and that's what =
both ITOC and the Hotel Council are showing here today.
Our industry will always face challenges, both in the short and =
long-term. The only way to meet them head on is through strong =
partnerships. =20
This MOU will promote an environment of cooperation, mirroring =
government's own ongoing commitment to building strong relationships =
with the sector.
This is yet another important milestone for New Zealand's world-class =
tourism sector. Our strength comes from the combination of many groups =
and individuals. Ongoing professionalism and investment across the =
sector is critical to our ongoing success.=20
Tourism is already New Zealand's biggest export earner, and all signs =
point to a continued positive growth trend. To maximise these =
opportunities, the entire sector must continue to work together, sharing =
information and promoting best practice at every opportunity. =20
That is the road to true sustainability across the industry.
I congratulate NZHC and ITOC for showing leadership in this, and now =
invite them to sign the MOU.
