leonard told menew orleans is an interesting place. its intoxicating in not
a good way and it is his birthplace and where his homeboys are. He said he
is somehow more attracted to it in its diminished state than before.
he went home just for a visit and stopped by the Office just to say hi. he
discovered his good friend had become permanent boss and he started telling
him Are you ready to come back? Its time to come back etc etc. No positions
or openings were discussed at all. he didn't really consider it an
invitation,
he just said he was happy in San Francisco and let it go at that.
Then on the day after he returned to SF, a supervisory job opened in
Metairie!
Hmmmm?
he thought about it and applied.
he was not sure whether the boss would choose him, but he was sure he would
have got a decent chance, but the question is whether those above the boss
would approve--not nearly as likely. If they say no, then thats that. he
doesn't even know for sure that Metairie will stay open-there were still
300,000 people missing from New Orleans's population when he applied and one
of the two offices SHOULD be closed.
new orleans is a cheap but hard place to live and he is sure a supervisor in
metairie will have its trials, but he was still a little lonely in san
francisco paradise and a little sick of the $700,000 studio condos, so he
took a shot.
he said he would be happy whatever happens, healthier here, drunker there.
he then said
In the words of ee cummings:
"deeds cannot dream what dreams can do"
& 'love's function is to fabricate unknownness"
so off we go into the unknownness where the only security is courage
May you be well
May you be happy
May you be free
May you be free from suffering
he didn't get that job but he is a supervisor in Oakland which is still so
cool
