We've been given a few kg of ripe gold kiwifruit.
I gave some of it away and put the rest in the fridge, but I guess it will
start going off before we can eat all of it.

Presumably kiwifruit won't freeze successfully, so I'm wondering if there
is a simple way to preserve it or make something useful like jam.

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Would be a nightmare to freeze, lots of fiddling.
This site - http://www.zespri.com/ - has some good looking recipes (recipe
tab) that could get you through them. Smoothies, desserts and more.

Specifically for jam...

A bit of research would lead you towards making some utterly delicious
kiwifruit ice cream, which will keep in the freezer for ages!

My grandfather used to make kiwifruit wine. Apparently it was really
nice but I was too young to appreciate it.

grrrr....posts dis-appearing....

It will freeze as a purrie which you can then de-frost later make into
a very nice drink by adding some water.....or lollipops

Hi,

We buy/have frozen kiwi crush, so it should freeze if purried....just
defrost and add some water and its a very nice drink...I think it has
some pineapple in it as well....

As an aside, You can get it freeze dried as well, its not quite as
nice and since its from a Pharmacy, over twice the price ($9~10 a
sachet), but good for camping as its light and keeps.

Do you have a dehydrator? Peel, cut slices crosswise. Or if it is a
dehydrator with the solid tray liners for drying purees etc, spoon the
fruit out, chop up a bit and spread out over the trays to make a lovely
snack. Can also be used in with other dried fruit in cakes, buns,
scones etc.

I usually raid my neighbours orchard the day after the pickers have been
through and his crop has gone to the packhouse. Get enough to last me
through to late Sept/Oct. (even more if the pickers were short fellas)
Store them loose in the vegie bin (& the bottom shelf) in the fridge.
Have one every day at breakfast.
As they are reasonably hard when picked they last. Usually have 3 or 4
in a plastic bag with an apple to ripening them up.

Well, I'm entitled to a burst of usenet proid for that, even though it
was only a momentary delay on your part :-)

Thanks for the suggestion - I think we have access to a dehydrator.

Thanks also to "Jack Spratt" fro the zespri ref, vitw for the icecream
idea, Thing for the puree suggestion, and the various commentators about
kiwifruit wine. Probably wine making is a bit comp.icated for me though.

Cheers,

John S
