I wonder if someone could help me. I am trying to find the city or town that
has street names around the airport that are named after aircraft. The only
place that springs to mind is around Wigram airfield but I have been led to
believe there is another but I cannot seem to find out by searching on the
Net. Any help would be appreciated and if someone knows of a site that could
help that also would be great.

Cheers Barry Hudson

The streets of Waldronville are named after aircraft, but
they're a fair distance from the nearest airport.

Canberra Place.
Dakota Place.
Viscount Road.
Delta Drive.
Vampire Road.
Valiant Road.
Vulcan Road.
Friendship Drive.

There's also a Craddock Place, which I don't recognize as
anything related to aviation, and the main street is called
Brighton Road, probably because it is the main road to
Brighton...

A lot of the strets around the old Wigram airforce base in
Christchurch are also named after aircraft or their manufactures.

Try http://www.ccc.govt.nz and there is a link there to a street mep
of Christchurch which will give you the names.

From memory similar name appear around Woodburn just out of Blenheim
and also around Weedons ( not sure if the spelling there ) just south
of Christchurch but its been a long time since I was on or around
either of these places.

Only the ones within the aerodrome precinct and this would be very
recent in the 55+ years existence of the aerodrome and facilities.

Incidentally, 'theme' street names are common eg Khandallah (Indian
cities), Brooklyn (US Presidents), Island Bay (rivers), Whitby (James
Cook related and nautical), Ascot Park (racehorses) and Stratford
(Shakespearian characters).

There are a few aviation related street names in Mangere. I can only
recall Farnborough Crescent and Bader Drive at the moment.

Milford has a few streets named after battles. Trafalgar and Waterloo are
just two of them.

I was born in Seaton Road, which was adjacent to Tiverton Road (both
being towns in Devon) in Wembley, near London; which seemed a strange
place to put them. Elsewhere in Wembley (near where I next lived) was
a cluster of "public school" Avenues: Rugby Ave, Eton Ave,
Charterhouse Ave, and a couple of others I can't recall. They all came
off Harrow Road, which, like Dave Joll's Brighton Road, actually went
there.

And, of course, one of the most glaring and pretentious clusters in NZ
is the nautical/navigational stuff (Constellation, Quadrant,
Spinnaker, etc) in the up-market Wellington suburb of Whitby
