My three-four year old weedeater just stopped working half way through
a job, and wont start. I'm going to pull the plug for the first time
in its life and have a look at it when I get a socket that will fit,
but if that aint the problem I'm going to have to escalate it.
There is a place in Browns Bay that is OK. I cannot remember the street
name or the business name but it is about 300 metres west of the north
end of the shopping area.
But pull the plug, clean it and squirt some quick-start into the air
cleaner. Get the midget to hold the end of the spark plug cabel and put
one finger, of the same hand, on the cylinder head. Then you pull the
string. If she jumps and kicks you in the balls you know that you have
a spark. If you have a spark look at the carburetter.

I'll vouch for both, but the former is (IMO) a better bet.
There's an outfit Eastern Mowers & Chainsaws in Panmure that I've
always found to be pretty good.
The man is a god.
I went for a drive over that way and dropped the weedeater in, and was
told it would be a few weeks. They do what the other small-engine
repairer I used once did, and charge a diagnostioc fee which is
credited against the final bill should you proceed with the repair,
and it cost me a touch over $70 all up to get it back, working fine
and running sweet.
Funnily enough, the lawnmower clagged itself half way through the next
time I went to use it! Whereas the weedeater just died, the front
axle gave out on the lawnmower, and the wheel fell off. I asked them
to fix it, and sort out the rear wheel which was wobbly, and again was
told a couple of weeks.
For about $120 they replaced the front axle, and the adjusting-lever-
thingy that aligns both front wheels, as well as re-washered all four
wheels, which is about what I was expecting.
I'm a happy-chappy, and I'd echo your recommendation. They are now
the first port of call the next time I need small-engine help.
Bugger: I should have said, it was Bob Coldham Mowers in Three Kings
that I went to.
