I called into Mitre 10 yesterday to buy a can of Jeyes Fluid but was
informed that it is now off the market. That it is illegal to sell it!
Could someone tell me why?
Thanks.

It contains creosote derivatives which are now regarded as
carcinogens. Not sure if creosote is still available as a timber
preservative--haven't seen it on sale for a few years.

Probably what the smell was about.
There are other disinfectants which are just as, if not more
effective....... and smell better too.

Might still be. I saw it for sale in a 10 litre bucket at a Wellington
branch of Placemakers earlier this year.

I suspect the OP was the victim of BS. I wanted some Caustic Soda for
paint-stripper a while ago and the spotty face sales-droid told me it
was highly dangerous and illegal. Pointing out that petrol was more
dangerous, but we all managed that each week, just got me a bewildered
look. Never mind, I wandered around the shop and there it was, as
drain cleaner:- 98% NaOH. It never ceases to amaze me how stupid shop
assistants can be. WTF do "teachers" teach these days??
Teaty business and Save the whales?

That reminds me of my best ever bumper sticker:

"Nuking gay whales for Jesus"

You and Mr Milne are both replying to a discussion held 12 years ago.

Whatever is causing this, it is not linked to political leanings.

There are some very good flea treatments out there.
go talk to a vet.
I wouldn't use Jeyes Fluid on the dogs just on their surrounds
