Nelson MP and wife separate

Nelson, Jan 05 _ Nelson MP Nick Smith this morning confirmed that he
and wife Cyndy had separated.

" Our separation is amicable and we both remain very committed to our
children. We ask the media and the public to respect our privacy," he
said in a statement.

He said they would be making no further public comment on the
separation.

Dr Smith is currently the National Party's spokesman on environment,
energy and building issues. He was the MP for Tasman from 1990 to
1996, and has been the MP for Nelson since 1996.

Dr Smith's marriage is the latest to falter among top of the South
Island MPs. West Coast-Tasman MP Damien O'Connor, Kaikoura MP Lynda
Scott and former Nelson-based Green MP Ian Ewen-Street have all split
from their partners in recent years.

Wasn't Cyndi the sister of the poor sod who was married to the wackiest
of all the Christchurch Civic Creche loons? The one who was the mother
of the poor boy who was held in a cage suspended from the ceiling in
the Cranmer Centre and made to watch little Andrew being sacrificed on
the floor below?

I'd heard it said that Nick's close association with this woman,
through his marriage to Cyndi, might have been an influence in the
National Caucus not doing anything to reverse the miscarriage of
justice in the Civic case.

She doesn't like "V", I guess.

Politics is a very demanding profession. Not all partners can stand being
left alone for weeks and months and top have the other person utterly
preoccupied by other matters even when they are together.

People who say MPs are on a cushy number have no idea what these people
actually do in a day....

Ah, I'm intrigued and somewhat concerned if what you imply might have
had some political influence in the early stages of the Peter
Ellis/Christchurch Civic Creche case.

I do reacall that National was in power back then when that mess broke
out and that Nick Smith was in the Government. He was good mates with
John Banks and I recall John Banks flying right off the planet over
Peter Ellis. Banks was Minister of Police.

Did Nick Smith ever lobby or influence Ministers whose departments had
an interest in the Peter Ellis/Christchurch Civic Creche case?

Cyndi Smith has a background in social work I think. Has she ever
leant on anyone within the Parliament regarding the Peter
Ellis/Christchurch Civic Creche case?

You don't live in New Zealand if you don't know what "V" is.
