He's thrilled.

In a written statement, Sir Peter called receiving the honour an "incredible
moment". "I didn't think anything would surpass the 2004 Academy Awards, but
I was wrong."

He is one of 5 people knighted in the NY honours list.

http://www.stuff.co.nz/entertainment/3199977/Peter-Jackson-knighted-in-New-Year-honours

Helen Clark gets the highest accolade The Order of NZ. along with Peter
Jackson,
Miss Clark said she felt privileged to join the "incredible New Zealanders"
in the order, and "certainly would not" have accepted a damehood. Her Labour
government axed the titles in 2000

Others to be made knight and dame companions of the New Zealand Order of
Merit are Professor Mason Durie, Douglas Myers, Justice Bruce Robertson and
Lesley Max.

I saw lovely bones this week, it's a fairly weird and freaky movie
with a cameo shot of Sir Pete looking through a camera in a shopping
mall scene, not a bad movie but a bit on the dark side

Jacko himself is more than a bit on the dark side. He is one twisted
creepy fucked-up deranged mess, who in slightly different circumstances
would have easily ended up permanently medicated in some community mental
health half-way house, if not permanently incarcerated in a secure psych
hospital.

What's made Jackson different from all the other twisted casualties of
childhood is his cinematic gifts, scale of ambition and his ability to
not get caught acting out warped stuff on people (whether by abstaining
from such actions, or by avoiding detection).

But that said, his Oscars, earlier ONZ and his latest knighthood are
extremely well deserved. His brilliance, even though dark, does a lot to
light up this otherwise dreary NZ landscape.

I don't think so. He only got a knighthood in the NZ Order of Merit;
she was made a member of the much more exclusive Order of New Zealand.

And as we learn more, the list does seem to be tainted with National
party thinking:

http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/3202456/Firefighters-rubbish-New-Years-Honours

"How is it that the guys that sit in their office all day get
recognised when the people who were killed or injured get nothing no
recognition at all?"

Rewarding non-contributors and ignoring those that actually provide
the services does seem to be characteristic of National - they are
obsessed with "rank" and fortunes (their own).

Douglas Myers huh? Some drug dealers get locked up, others get knighted.
Shows what a dichotomy we have in this country.

Since Rodney Hide has gone from perk-buster to perk-swiller this one
may explain why ACT put being on that panel so high in their coalition
demands.
