I've known this beautiful man for a number of years now, and was proud and
honoured to be with him in his last few hours.
Shane was involved in ground-breaking study and research on glbt youth in
schools in New Zealand and around the world. He was teaching at Victoria
and Massey, Wellington in Teacher Education.
Shane was a sincere, compassionate and generous man who died of HIV-related
illness seven days after his 37th birthday in Greytown, Wairarapa. He is
survived by his sister Tracey Towns (note diff spelling) and her two
children, Ari & Nic, and his father, Norman, who all live in Masterton.
A celebration of Shane's wonderful life will be held this Thursday 17th
February at Old Saint Pauls, Mulgrave Street, Wellington, at 2pm. This will
be followed by his cremation in Karori.
Friends are welcome to visit Shane at his sister's place, Tracey Towns, 60
Hillcrest Street, Masterton on Tuesday 15th February or in the evening from
5pm for drinks and nibbles.
You are invited to forward donations to the Aids Foundation on behalf of
Shane.
NOTE: Please forward this message on to anyone who you think would like to
remember Shane.
Any email messages returned to me will be passed onto Shane's family.
y dont you all donate something, ... as a beneficiary all i can spare is
$5.00, but hey ... maybe it will be your son/ daughter next?
lets be reminded as well there is no cure for AIDS and even with medication
ones life can be hell ...

incidentally straight men "come on" to ladies all the time .... if they are
politely turned down then fine ... this is how we operate as humans ... so
why the hell is it necessary to treat a gay person as some sort of sicko as
you seem to infer above simply because he comes on to some one?
now does any one know a decent man i can come onto ?

so you simply had to add that tot his thread. I hope you feel better
now. If it is the same person, he is now dead and unable to respond
to your here say, that is more than tacky, especially as it is "what I
heard"

I know its very un PC to say so, but if he is being hassled- he should know
that there are avenues available to him to do something about it. no
institution tolerates sexual harrassment- not on paper anyway- he should do
something about it.

I didn't take it as an indictment of the man.
I think you are confusing 'infer' with 'imply'. 7YI only said he recalls being
told that a person called Shane Town "lost his job for coming onto a male
student". 7YI made no moral inferences from that statement. You said 7YI inferred
that ST was a sicko. This is not the case. 7YI's words were devoid of inference.
They might have implied (as in hint, suggest, insinuate) a conclusion. What
happened, I think, is that you took the words -- which comprised only one half
of a syllogism: ST did 'X' -- and added your own second half of the syllogism:
'X' is a sick thing to do. It is YOU, therefore, that inferred that ST was sick.
If anything, I can infer from what you say that you think it is sick for a man
to be gay.
I suggest you look to your own words: "jesus christ mate the man just bloody
well died .. u know .. death? unless he was convicted of some offence then u
should show some sort of respect"
Best regards
