Hi all
Are there any CD writer gurus out there who can help me?
I've just installed a HP9100i. As part of the setup, Adaptec DirectCD was
installed. Everything was OK until last night, when I went to install
Nero 5...
I uninstalled DirectCD as required and installed Nero. I copied an audio CD
as a trial burn onto a CD-RW disc. The burn seemed to go well.
After that, everything hit the fan! I got the blue screen of death, followed
by the more ominous black screen of death. My system froze after rebooting.
Once I removed the CD-RW from the writer, it was OK again.
Today I did some reading and changed the "SCSI1Hlp.vxd" file name to
"SCSI1Hlp.old", as suggested on various sites. No change - still dies when
the CD-RW is inserted.
I tried uninstalling Nero as well, but no change. I even tried performing a
self-diagnosis on the writer, but the system froze half way through, just
after the tray opened and closed.
What else can I do??
Cheers
Wayne

Nero + Adaptec /= Working CDR/W
Last I heard, these two proggies were *entirely* incompatible.

Loose one of them, re install the other.
I believe, if you get a copy of it from the nero site, it warns you of
incompatibilities etc.

You will also find that adaptec's `Direct CD' doesn't do a very good job..
I recommend EZ CD Creator. The three appz I use are Golderhawk CDR-WIN,
Adaptec EZ CD Creator and Nero (I have no problems with incompatibilities).
I have made only 3 coasters out of 1000 cds and that was cause i forget and
fired up q3. =\
But yeah, look around, direct cd sucks.

ah cd recording in windows, the most painful experience.

IRC, play mp3s, and read newsgroups/email while writing cds under Linux.

You've been away for a while. have you? "The Virus" is last weeks alias, now
he calls himself "the vulture". (If he's using V as the first letter the
"village idiot" can't be too far away)

What a nasty piece of work you are. I should sue you for slander ... Um
wait, you weren't talking about me.
