There's a great shop opposite The Shakespear Tavern in Akl city called Fast
Finish Photo - 38 Wyndham St, www.fastfinish.co.nz

They'll scan slides to cd, in 3 diff sizes (email, web browse and high
quality print ). I have their card, which says $1.50 per slide but I can't
remember how old that is, so the prices probably have changed.

Hi,

Thanks for that. And to all who replied. He is unwilling to shell out for
hardware for a one time thing.

Ha ha 1.50 per slide. Imagine these old collections of 100's of slides. I
am in the wrong business.

Probably.

But that $1.50 includes auto colouring / colour correction and 3 images, all
catalogued and filed on a cd with a viewing pgm.

I added up how many old family slides I had (@300), the time it would take
me to scan the slides in on my scanner (they do a batch of 30 at a time I
think on an enourmous tray and drum scanner) and resize, etc. All within 3
days.

Put that against the value of my time = a bloody good deal. As they say,
time IS money.

Depending on how many he wants scanned it may be cheaper than getting them
scanned professionally. He can always sell the scanner again on Trademe or,
if he's really cheeky, buy it from DSE (if available), scan 'em all in a
week taking care to keep it in new condition and not damaging/losing any of
the packaging, then return it for a full refund. Bit cheeky though, I'm not
sure if I'd have the gall to do that.

Is it their ad that has the guy swapping his pc because of the cdrom
tray? I can't quite see the problem with his original purchase -
reminds me of many movies that have plot holes that have no
explanation of how or why things happen and we just have to guess or
presume they are possible ( and yet often they are not) but we just
accept them anyway.

I haven't seen the ad, I don't watch ads. Do they give you your money back
like DSE do or is it just a swap?

The ad sounds pathetic, I often wonder exactly what market segment most TV
ads in NZ are aimed at. Some of them are so pathetic and transparent, some
are downright insulting.

$5 now actually. Any recommendations for a scanner? Shop in Ak with
good range of transparency scanners?

Thanks

There is no substitute for a proper slide scanner.
