I have a Fuki MX-500 which has been fantastic, but yesterday when switching
it on it won't 'power up' at all, just beeps. Fresh batteries too.
:-(
My life will be incomplete if I don't get it fixed pronto. Any suggestions
anyone ?

Have you read the manual? Perhaps the beeps mean something, like
condensation or whatever. It could be just some type of warning. Check it
out with a camera shop that sells that brand, they may be able to tell you
what it means, if you're still stuck.

Dip the 3mm phono plug that is used to transfer the pics to computer in
some meths (or acholol). Push it in the hole a few times. Try camera.
If that doesn't work, try replacing the memory card with another one.
Try camera
Best of luck

Hopefully it'll work.
Turns out the problem is less of a problem, just something odd. There's a
sensor that checks to make sure the flash card 'door' is hinged shut before
opwering up. The camera will power up without a card, or with a card, but
won't power up if the flash door is open.
The sensor has died, the camera thinks the door is open, and so won't power
up. Hanimex people will fix it tomorrow in about 2.5 seconds, or perhaps
that's slightly wishful thinking, I'm not sure.
