The What Works series have been designed as short papers, written in plain English, to help guide thinking in New Zealand’s schools. By researching what’s known and understood about an issue, the aim is to distil this into a two page paper supporting the development of practical solutions.
These examples (attached) of the What Works series, Irregular Absence and Chronic Absence, have been written to showcase the potential of the full series. Intended to support schools facing these issues by identifying and exploring potential new and alternative ways to address absences. From the suggested actions to the case studies and the listed resources they’ve been written to help initiate a conversation on developing a relevant local solution.
How can you help? While our intention is for the What Works series to be living documents, they’re yet to be released and we would greatly appreciate feedback from you and your team on these examples. This feedback will go towards further refinement and help set the standard for the other papers in production.
