1. In every relationship, communication is key,and prayer is our means
of communicating with our Heavenly Father. When we forsake our prayer
lives, it means we are not willing to change, and naturally the
relationship will become dormant. Instead of drawing closer to God
there is a rift which will not be mended until we get back that
intense desire to change. At this time, we will not know how to shun
the appearance of evil, much more the evil itself.
On the obverse, the more we pray the closer we get, the better we
know Him, the more we trust Him. In other words, prayer solidifies our
relationship with God, so we can go to Him with and about everything.
When we draw closer to Him, our conscience is quickened by His
holiness; our imagination is purged by His beauty, and our will is
devoted to His purpose. Our sense of sin is deeper, our faith is
stronger and our hope brighter.
2. All the options of life are truly before us and we serve a God who
gives us freedom of choice. We need to be careful however, that we do
not get too heady with this freedom and become enticed by our lusts.
We have to stay on task even when seemingly urgent distractions clamor
for our attention. Diversions may be on every side, but we cannot
allow the 'urgent' to overwhelm the important. These are the times
when we need to 'force' ourselves to reach Him through prayer. Yes I
said force. It may sound un-christianlike but be honest,to purpose in
our hearts and to bring it to fruition takes force or determination if
you prefer. We cannot be fickle in our relationship with God because
our 'luck' may just run out' We need to remain focussed and remember
that we're not in this by ourselves. When we are hardpressed on every
side that's when we should be unmoveable, unshakeable and send Him our
'knee-mails.' When trouble comes our way we sometimes cry, but crying
is not always a sign of weakness. It's just a realization that we
cannot fight our battles alone. Hand over the reigns and let Him be
the pilot. Capitulate to the Holy Spirit and grow in His grace.
3. To not grow in his likeness is to either live as a straight up
sinner or to be living a 'sham christianity.' This is the kind that
looks good om the outside but does not compute on the inside. 'White-
washed sepulchre syndrome' causes us to miss out on the fullness of
God, which is quite daunting to imagine. We are told beforehand, the
pay we will get for the work that we do so no surprise there.
occasionally see some dishevelled persons on the street 'preaching.'
They are decked out with attache cases and all, but are obviously in
the throes of insanity. I can't help but wonder if somewhere in their
consciousness, they're asking the burning question "What would I have
become in Him if I would have been a person of prayer?" This also
causes me to pause and reflect on my life. If I stop praying that
could be me, without power and without A SOUND MIND.
To grow in His likeness, we have to let holiness and righteousness
be the hallmark of our lives. Christ said He would rather us all to be
like Him and we know He was consumed with Holy Passion, a zeal for the
things of His Father. We should endeavor to have that passion so we
can more clearly see Who God is and What He does. As we're made in His
image, we need to fully understand Him whose image we bear. What we
have heard about Him is just a reflection (which of course is very
dim.) Unless we know Him for ourselves, we will not know the Source of
that reflection. When we start 'dining' with Him, instead of inviting
Him for a cup of tea and a little conversation, our priorities will
change. We'll begin to live as if our lives are on loan and our
possessions (also on loan) are to be held lightly, not tightly. We can
genuinely enjoy 'stuff' without destroying our souls, being now
attached to God and detached from the world.
