When we have knowledge of who God is we have ample reasons to
explore each crevice of our spiritual lives to see where we have
fallen short. Reflecting on His grace urges us to “move beyond surface
living into the depths.” Grace is divine favor that is unearned and un-
earnable, unattained and unattainable through human efforts. It is
manifested in the salvation of sinners (us) and the bestowal of
blessings which we enjoy even when we disregard His precepts and
commandments; hence ‘unmerited favor.’ Thinking about Christ going to
the cross and asking forgiveness for His captors is mind-boggling from
a human standpoint, yet it is no different than when I continually sin
and ask His forgiveness which He not only gives, but adds multiple
blessings as well. When I think of God’s far-reaching, never- ending
love, I am compelled to examine myself. Seeing the ways in which sin
works its way out through my bodily parts, reminding me that I am
enslaved by my inbred habits also that if I should die in such state
I’d be doomed. Where my sin abound His grace much more abound but
that’s not a crutch that I should use to justify my sinful behavior.
Imagine sinning, asking forgiveness and getting it each time; its as
if we are been rewarded for bad behavior, right? Wrong…no sin goes
unpunished; through His grace we’re accepted back into the fold but
He’ll make our punishment less severe. Very sad to note that each time
we offend Him it is as if we are driving a nail in His palm and a
spear in His side. Remembering his grace should make us conscious of
our sins, how much they hurt Him and that we should clean up our act.
We then place ourselves where God can reconstruct us and make us into
the image of Christ. MERCY THERE WAS GREAT & GRACE WAS FREE, PARDON
THERE WAS MULTIPLIED FOR ME..!!
As mentioned by the author, there are divinely appointed avenues
into worship. Praise is the one in which our spirit is ‘moved’ when we
focus (usually) on music, therefore it is the means or mode by which
we enter into worship and not worship of itself. We may practice the
languages of praise, singing, dancing, shouting, adoration but if
contact is not made with Him, then it is merely for entertainment
only. Praise is not a ritual but a joyful experience that allows us to
have inward communion with God and elevate us to the point where we
enter the realm where God frees our spirit.
The charismatic movement refers to Christian denominations such as
the Roman Catholic Church and Protestants (break away factions of the
RCC) who have started since the 1960’s, to adopt beliefs and practices
similar to the Pentecostal church. Before then, these denominations
did not embrace the slightest idea that to be baptized with the Holy
Spirit is a reality. Church services were too formal and ritualistic;
Christians were in spiritual bankruptcy and salvation and
justification were moot topics. Since they’ve done an about turn,
there’s been a massive inter-denominational revival and renewal.
Revival means change so Christians have started to more acknowledge
their spiritual state and when they reach out to God in worship their
dry bones have become mighty armies for the Lord. Christ had prayed to
the Father so that all who believe in Him will have the Holy Spirit
ALWAYS, so it makes sense that ALL members be part of a healthy,
connected functioning body. One that reflects the same kind of
spiritual power and teachings found in the early church after the
Upper Room experience.
Singing should move us into praise because it enlivens and
gladdens the soul. Whenever I get miserable for any reason the only
thing that calms me is when I start to hum or sing a song. Immediately
all my ill-temper dissipates, an inner melody leads me to ask God for
forgiveness- the apostle Paul says “rejoice in the Lord always and
again I say rejoice”. Reminiscing on that brings me to the conclusion
that singing soothes the spirit with a joy that will strengthen even
the most grievous suffering; the spirit is ’lifted up’ to a point that
seems unreal as your circumstances may not change but your whole
attitude has. When Paul and Silas were thrown in the stocks they sang
songs of praise;  when Peter and John left the Sanhedrin they had cuts
and bruises on their bodies and songs on their tongues. Singing from
the heart as opposed to the lips only, bring liberation causing you to
express your respect for God. “I sing because I’m happy I sing because
I’m free…”
Worship is a gift God gave believers with the intention that we
participate in unity of the Holy Spirit. We should all seek to enter
into active, intimate, authentic communion with God and this will be
transferred to fellow believers. God calls for believers who will
worship Him in spirit and in truth “The sacrifice acceptable to God is
a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart.” We respond to him with
our whole selves, offering our bodies as living sacrifices, ensuring
everything we do and say is God-centered. This is not a part time job
set aside for Sundays only but should be a lifestyle that will draw
others to know Him. When we hand over our bodies to Him he will
consecrate everything for His use; He not only wants our work but our
entire beings as we sometimes get engrossed in the ‘work’ and forget
to give Him the body. We ask Him to conform our will which is
essential as the will is what leads the body to act. Heart, Mind, Will
when placed on the altar before God allow us to worship  and depend on
Him only,  so we’ll exalt Him as our only authority and judge.

1. Worship an ordered way or act of living that sets us before God,
positioning us to be transformed by his Grace and Mercy. Worship is
the reaction we have from the touch of the Holy Spirit and Praise is
one of the avenues into worship. When you feel the Holy Spirit you
are ushered into his presence. The gift of speaking in tongue assists
in moving us to the next level of worship where the mind may not be
able to decode what is being said but the inner spirit does. How
amazing, Spirit touches Spirit in Praise.

2. The mightiest stirring of praise in the twentieth century has been
the charismatic movement.
There have been so many methods of praise that have breathed new life
into millions around the world. There are Praise Dances, Gospel is
being played on TV on the radio, there are satellite churches reaching
you right from your computer screen or smart phone. There are so many
captivating ways to praise him, the key is to ensure it leads you into
the avenue of worship with the Father therefore taking you to that
elevated level of worship where he desires us to be.

3.Singing is meant to move us into praise. Wow its interesting when
you grow up in the church and you know the routine so to speak Praise
& Worship team comes, offering, announcements praise and worship
again then Pastor etc. It’s different growing up thinking you know
why and then actually studying it and reading it. The Praise team
sings gets the church involved and on one accord, Praising God for
what he has done and what he is doing right now. Reminds me of an
older song “I don’t know what you came to do, But I came to Praise the
Lord” As we become unified we are all praising and worshiping focused
on God. Praise and Worship to me is like a spiritual shower washing
all the cares of the world away, all my distractions, washing away
everything that is not like him preparing my mind, body, and soul to
receive the word that God has placed upon Pastor’s heart to share with
us.

4. God calls for worship that involves our whole being, everything the
body, mind and spirit . I can’t wait to share with our young people
and with our P&W team leader to share with the members its imperative.
You know you are supposed to clap your hands etc. but it’s necessary
to worship with your whole being in order for our inner spirit to be
touched and freed. Be present with your whole being, Praise him with
your whole being to receive what God has for you, I mean you don’t
want ½ a blessing … when praises go up Blessing come down :).

To understand his grace is to understand our gilt. We understand his
grace when we realize the penalty of our sins. "For all have sinned
and come short of the glory of God" Rom.3:23. and "for the wages of
sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our
Lord"Rom.6:23.
We were destined for hell but God in his grace has saved us by sending
his only begotten son Jesus Christ to pay the penalty of our sins,
this is mercy and grace in action. When the Holy Spirit convicted us
on how guilty we are before Almighty God we come to understand what
God did for us in his love and our hearts can only respond by giving
Him praise and worship.
In Psalms 16:9, we are commanded to praise and worship the Lord and
Psalms 29:12 says "give unto the Lord the glory due his name; worship
the lord in beauty of holiness. Praise and worship work together to
honor God for who He is and what He has done, which is a result of our
faith in Him. For without faith it is impossible to please God. I
agree with Foster that praise is central in bringing us into worship.
The charismatic movement main characteristics were prayer and praise
which stirred up the Holy Spirit to indwell the individuals with power
for a deeper and more fulfilling spiritual life.
Singing spiritual songs inspired us to praise God when the songs are
based on the truth of the gospel which brings a feeling of
fulfillment.
God calls for worship that involves our whole being, because He
doesn't want part of us in our worship, He is a jealous God who wants
us totally, soul, mind and body. Nothing pleases God more than our
complete love and obedience in our worship.

1) Praise is an other avenue into worship.
praise the Lord;

A quickening presence pervades us,A dynamic presence unfold us all, breaking down some part of the special privacy.
thru Praise, paul and silas completely forgotten where they were, they began to sing, shout, dance, rejoicing, and adoring.
and the bible declares that they were set free, thru Praising, these two men got into a realm of worship  where God exist.
and we all know what happened; where true worshippers gathered, there is liberty" freedom.
praising and worship break the yokes and set captives free.

2) The mightiest stirring of praise in the twentieth century has been
the charismatic movement.
a) through it God has breathed new life and vitality into millions.
b) In praise we see how totally the emotions need to be brought into the act of worship.
c) the church of Jesus Christ is coming into a greater awareness of how central praise is bringing us into worship.

3)  Singing is meant to move us into praise.
a) through music we express our joy,and thanksgiving.
b) singing serves to focus us,to center us,during singing our fragmented minds and spirit flow into a unified whole.
we become poised with God.

4)God calls for worship that involves our whole being.
a) the point is that we are to offer God our body as well as all the rest of our beeing.
b)The body, mind, spirit ,and emotions should all be laid on the altar of worship.

Grace is the gift of God given to us that we did not deserve.
Ephesians 2:1 declares that we were dead in our trespasses and sins,
but God through his love for us redeemed us and in addition grants us
his blessings. We are not saved because of our works, but by His
grace. We are in fact guilty of breaking the law (we could not live
by it), but grace stepped in and rescued us, and set us free from our
guilt and shame. We were also rewarded with strength and guidance
throughout our everyday life. So now that we realize that we are
incapable of saving ourselves, and we are no better than anyone, we
can have the right attitude and fear towards the Lord and others. We
should not cease to give Him honor and glory because of what he has
done for us. We owe it all to Jesus.

(1) Praise is an ordered way of acting and living that sets us before
God to transform us. The Psalmist David said “I will bless the Lord
at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. We should
praise God at all times. We praise him for what he does which leads
us into worshipping him for who he is. Through praise we are brought
into a right attitude of submission to God, where we are drawn close
to him for him to gradually transform us to be more and more like him.

(2) The Charismatic Movement /Pentecostal Movement
The mightiest stirring of praise in the twentieth century has been the
charismatic movement where the people of God gather together to
worship in unity of spirit as of on the day of Pentecost. Unity is
strength and great things can happen when fire is kindled in the heart
of man. This fire, as like the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost
will break its way through in one spirit and one mind and things occur
that could never occur alone. In the twentieth century Christians has
discovered different ways to worship God. We worship through songs
praying, dancing drama etc. s we congregate in spirit and mind in
agreement with the word of God that declares that; one shall chase a
thousand and two shall put ten thousand to flight. Through praise and
worship the baptism of the Holy Spirit is poured out on Gods people
and the gifts of the spirit is received and manifested.

(3) Singing is meant to move us into praise; praise allows is to be
centered on God and brings us into worship. Singing provides a medium
for the expression of emotion. In singing we tell God how we feel
about him, and are free to express ourselves in words and melody.
Singing is a corporate effort that includes various parts of our
bodies; this includes our lungs, chest, head, tongue, teeth lips.etc.
These body parts all work together to give God the glory.

(4) God calls for worship that involves our whole being. Our entire
body, spirit and soul must be involved in worshiping God. The word of
God requires is to love the lord our god with all our heart with all
our soul with all your strength and with all your might. We must put
everything we have into our worship of God. We draw near to him in
worship in spirit never to be dry dull or boring, but to be
enthusiastic and ever longing to worship him. Worship springs from the
heart then our entire being becomes involved. We therefore must never
let our spirit become lifeless but must instead worship God with all
out soul mind and being. Worship should not be solely entertainment
based and man oriented, human leadership is not important. It is not
about making us feel good or making us happy but god calls for true
worshipers who will worship him in spirit and in truth. God is a
spirit and spirit can only talk with spirit.
Worship is action and as children of God we are the participants in
worship. Therefore worship for us should be a must. We can do so by
praying, singing, giving, in silence and others. In all form of
worshiping we must present our bodies to God for him to completely
take control. We should not be concerned about what others would say
or think about us, since we are fully aware of our guilt and Gods
grace towards us. To worship is to change because it is through
worship that God transforms us. When we truly worship great things
happen, God is revealed as Savior, Redeemer, and Healer, worker of
miracles and King of kings. We should expect miracles to happen during
worship. I pray God will not say to us the “These people come near to
me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are
far from me. Their worship of me is made up only of rules thought by
men.” Isaiah 29:13 God bless You all.

Respond to the statement by Richard Foster, to understand his grace is
to understand our guilt.
Agreed 100% I like that Foster mentions how Isaiah reacted to the
great sight of God’s glory in Isaiah 6. The Word of God declares the
holiness of our Father and it is impossible for us not to understand
our guilt when we understand His wonderful grace. When we are in His
presence, when, as Foster mentioned, when we are invaded by the
Shekinah of God, we understand the reality of our guilt and that same
grace brings us into confession, restoration, and a new humility.
1. Praise is another avenue into worship.- We have the tendency to
confuse the terms worship and praise. To understand praise as an
avenue to worship makes a lot of sense to me. We know that when we
sing, shout, dance, adore, and rejoice we are praising. But Foster
explains all these actions as the “language of praise’”, Love it! That
same language is, therefore, one of the avenues that will lead us to
worship.
2. The mightiest stirring of praise in the twentieth century has been
the charismatic movement. - In my understanding what the charismatic
movement has brought into the way we worship is the freedom to worship
using everything we got. Also to be able to involve our emotions,
body, mind, and spirit both inward (e.g. speaking in tongues) and
outward.
3. Singing is meant to move us into praise.- While letting ourselves
worship God with everything we got, to include our emotions, we need a
way to express those emotions. Singing is that way. We sing and
express our love and gratitude to our creator. We sing to him because
of who He is and for what He has done.
4. God calls for worship that involves our whole being. – John 4:23
says that “The true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and
truth, for such the Father seeks to worship him” If we want to be
those worshippers that the Father is seeking, we would worship with
all our whole being, since it’s what He is looking for. He is looking
for those that are not reserved to worship with everything because
they are too ashamed or to worried about what others would think of
them, in this case we are already compromising our minds. He is
looking for those that go beyond their physical weariness and still
lift their hands, kneel, dance to worship God. He is looking for those
that seek deeply that touch of their spirit with God’s spirit, as
Foster mentions in page 169 “spirit touches spirit” because they know
that then they would enter into a more inward communion with the
Father.

Kourtney,
I agree with you when you mentioned that there have been so many
methods that lead us to worship. What I really love about it is that I
see the people of God using more and more the freedom to practice each
of those methods to get to that next level of worship! Very good post

When we come into the full understanding that Gods grace is not
because of anything great that we have done but because he loves us it
reaveals God in us.God draws us to himself he initiates intimacy with
us through worship .Seeing his grace in our lives causes us to come to
place of surrender and to open to his will. As we begin to be open to
his will we can begin to become true worshipers we will live in
constant worship unto God.

Its good to praise God for all that he has done .It leads us in a real
place of worship when we praise him we show him our adoration for all
he has done.when we spend our day meditating on God and just
worshiping him it becomes easy for us to praise him .Praise is an
important part of worship and it draws us even closer to God.

dont really understand this part.

when we sing we express emotions towards the lord words of most hyms
takes us to a place of surrender and its a good way when we cant find
the words to say we can use song to get into a place of praise.

They that worship him must worship him in spirit and truth. Our lives
have to embody worship our lives should show that we have come into
the rest of God that our relationship with him is solid and that he is
glorified in every area of our lives.
