When we have knowledge of who God is we have ample reasons to
explore each crevice of our spiritual lives to see where we have
fallen short. Reflecting on His grace urges us to “move beyond surface
living into the depths.” Grace is divine favor that is unearned and un-
earnable, unattained and unattainable through human efforts. It is
manifested in the salvation of sinners (us) and the bestowal of
blessings which we enjoy even when we disregard His precepts and
commandments; hence ‘unmerited favor.’ Thinking about Christ going to
the cross and asking forgiveness for His captors is mind-boggling from
a human standpoint, yet it is no different than when I continually sin
and ask His forgiveness which He not only gives, but adds multiple
blessings as well. When I think of God’s far-reaching, never- ending
love, I am compelled to examine myself. Seeing the ways in which sin
works its way out through my bodily parts, reminding me that I am
enslaved by my inbred habits also that if I should die in such state
I’d be doomed. Where my sin abound His grace much more abound but
that’s not a crutch that I should use to justify my sinful behavior.
Imagine sinning, asking forgiveness and getting it each time; its as
if we are been rewarded for bad behavior, right? Wrong…no sin goes
unpunished; through His grace we’re accepted back into the fold but
He’ll make our punishment less severe. Very sad to note that each time
we offend Him it is as if we are driving a nail in His palm and a
spear in His side. Remembering his grace should make us conscious of
our sins, how much they hurt Him and that we should clean up our act.
We then place ourselves where God can reconstruct us and make us into
the image of Christ. MERCY THERE WAS GREAT & GRACE WAS FREE, PARDON
THERE WAS MULTIPLIED FOR ME..!!
As mentioned by the author, there are divinely appointed avenues
into worship. Praise is the one in which our spirit is ‘moved’ when we
focus (usually) on music, therefore it is the means or mode by which
we enter into worship and not worship of itself. We may practice the
languages of praise, singing, dancing, shouting, adoration but if
contact is not made with Him, then it is merely for entertainment
only. Praise is not a ritual but a joyful experience that allows us to
have inward communion with God and elevate us to the point where we
enter the realm where God frees our spirit.
The charismatic movement refers to Christian denominations such as
the Roman Catholic Church and Protestants (break away factions of the
RCC) who have started since the 1960’s, to adopt beliefs and practices
similar to the Pentecostal church. Before then, these denominations
did not embrace the slightest idea that to be baptized with the Holy
Spirit is a reality. Church services were too formal and ritualistic;
Christians were in spiritual bankruptcy and salvation and
justification were moot topics. Since they’ve done an about turn,
there’s been a massive inter-denominational revival and renewal.
Revival means change so Christians have started to more acknowledge
their spiritual state and when they reach out to God in worship their
dry bones have become mighty armies for the Lord. Christ had prayed to
the Father so that all who believe in Him will have the Holy Spirit
ALWAYS, so it makes sense that ALL members be part of a healthy,
connected functioning body. One that reflects the same kind of
spiritual power and teachings found in the early church after the
Upper Room experience.
Singing should move us into praise because it enlivens and
gladdens the soul. Whenever I get miserable for any reason the only
thing that calms me is when I start to hum or sing a song. Immediately
all my ill-temper dissipates, an inner melody leads me to ask God for
forgiveness- the apostle Paul says “rejoice in the Lord always and
again I say rejoice”. Reminiscing on that brings me to the conclusion
that singing soothes the spirit with a joy that will strengthen even
the most grievous suffering; the spirit is ’lifted up’ to a point that
seems unreal as your circumstances may not change but your whole
attitude has. When Paul and Silas were thrown in the stocks they sang
songs of praise; when Peter and John left the Sanhedrin they had cuts
and bruises on their bodies and songs on their tongues. Singing from
the heart as opposed to the lips only, bring liberation causing you to
express your respect for God. “I sing because I’m happy I sing because
I’m free…”
Worship is a gift God gave believers with the intention that we
participate in unity of the Holy Spirit. We should all seek to enter
into active, intimate, authentic communion with God and this will be
transferred to fellow believers. God calls for believers who will
worship Him in spirit and in truth “The sacrifice acceptable to God is
a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart.” We respond to him with
our whole selves, offering our bodies as living sacrifices, ensuring
everything we do and say is God-centered. This is not a part time job
set aside for Sundays only but should be a lifestyle that will draw
others to know Him. When we hand over our bodies to Him he will
consecrate everything for His use; He not only wants our work but our
entire beings as we sometimes get engrossed in the ‘work’ and forget
to give Him the body. We ask Him to conform our will which is
essential as the will is what leads the body to act. Heart, Mind, Will
when placed on the altar before God allow us to worship and depend on
Him only, so we’ll exalt Him as our only authority and judge.
