This two-part series started 2 days ago, but the main draw started just yesterday with the doubles: https://www.worldtabletennis.com/eventInfo?selectedTab=Matches&innerselectedTab=Scheduled&eventId=3177 [today's schedule].  They're mixing up the scheduling to make things interesting, I guess, by playing the doubles draws first.  The next matches start tomorrow afternoon at 1 pm and it's all doubles until after 3 pm when the singles begin.

The top 5 men's seeds are Aditya Sareen of AUS, Park Ganghyeon, Jules Rolland, Borgar Haug, and Edward Ly of Canada.  And the top 5 women seeds are Sreeja Akula, Satoh Hitomi, Amy Wang, Yeh Yi-tian, and Shibata Saki.  Here's the players' list: https://www.worldtabletennis.com/eventInfo?selectedTab=Player%20List&eventId=3177&innerselectedTab=Scheduled

Penholders...  None--at least none that I recognize...

Pips-out players...  The only one I recognize on the men's side is Kang Dongsoo, a chopper from South Korea.  Speaking of choppers, Aida Satoshi is also playing this week.  I mention him because he's a chopper who doesn't play with pips or anti.  He paired up in the mixed doubles with Hashimoto Honoka down in Brazil last week and won the title.  This week, he's paired up with Hashimoto's former long-time doubles partner, Satoh Hitomi which means there's a very good chance Aida's winning again this week...

The women playing with pips-out rubber this week are Sreeja Akula (long pips/bh), Satoh Hitomi (chopper), Sasao Asuka (short pips/bh), Jessica Reyes-Lai (short pips/bh), Idesawa Kyohka (long pips/bh, short pips/fh--wouldn't be surprised if she at least makes the final this week), Guo Jiangshan (long pips/bh), Zauresh Akasheva (short pips/bh), Clio Barcenas of Mexico (long pips/bh), and Fabiola Diaz (short pips/bh?).  There are a lot of people I'm not familiar so there may be someone I've missed.

Americans...  There were a few Americans who entered this event, but all but 2 men & 3 women have been eliminated--Ma Jinbao and Nandan Naresh for the men and Amy Wang, Guo Jiangshan, and Sally Moyland for the women. Look at the schedule above to see when they play later today.  When looking at the schedule, remember that Washington state is 3 hrs. behind us.

As I mentioned above, this is a two-part series.  Part 1 runs till tomorrow (Friday), the 8th, then Part 2 starts the very next day on Saturday, the 9th, and runs till Tuesday, the 12th.
