I'd like to share Art's Christmas greetings to every Bedan and his family.

The Christmas period is generally considered the season of giving and, in this spirit, I would like to propose that the NYSBCAA consider launching an ongoing project to help the needy in the Philippines.  Poverty -- and the misery as well as the countless crimes and victims that spring from it -- is and has been in many ways the largest continuing problem that our home country has been plagued with.  If Bedans -- and our Association -- are to be known for something really meaningful, helping the poor, especially the children, is worth achieving.

     Life in Palanan, Makati. For Street Children.

     Bautista - a portion has been taken over by the residents. Katabi ng 7-11, where I passed by last night. Same as the corner of Bigasan-Casino St.. Bigasan, where we live; sidewalk gone.

     Marconi, informal settlers sleep there, in the Makati-Pasay divide. They all look famished, boney bones, plenty of urchins.

     Palanan is not alone, in having wakes on streets and people sleeping on sidewalks.

     Surrounding us are the conejo warrens in Manila (Malate) and Pasay. See the Rizal Baseball Stadium at night, where I passed by, kagabi. Entrance, a "dormitory." My eldest apo, Rene III, 8, is into baseball pa naman.

     Indeed, what can we do to give these descamisados a Merry Christmas and a better life?

     Last night, after dancexercising in 7th Note on Malugay, Makati, we could not hail a cab. I thought we had no choice but to walk from Malugay to Bigasan. Tough as dancing shoes are not really for walking. After nearly a kilometer, with another or two to go, a cab! PTL! Mass transpo Digong should focus on.

     Meantime, there is some neighbor out there we can help.

     Give, give, give, until it hurts, as we used to hear in San Beda.
