Freddy’s is a bar with a backroom located at 627 5th Avenue in S. Park Slope
Brooklyn, between 17th and 18th Streets, one block away form the R-
train stop at Prospect Avenue.
10PM - Katie Down & Daniel Kelly’s DissentDecentDescent
Daniel Kelly (keyboard, voice, electronics) and Katie Down (flute, glass, voice, percussion) have
been experimenting and improvising with sound together for over 10
years. Their vocabulary as a duo incorporates found and prerecorded
sonic sources, multiple instruments and toys, text, movement, and film.
Their latest endeavor has them creating 10 spontaneous improvised sound
scores of varying lengths based on images of the following concepts:
Dissent, Decent, and Descent.
On The Way Out is a monthly series that focuses on presenting
performances of creative music artists and is open to all forms of
experimental music including composed, improvised, free jazz,
contemporary classical, electro-acoustic and noise.

Michael Evans-drums/percussion & Shelley Hirsch-vocals
Michael Evans is an improvising drummer/percussionist/multi-instrumentalist/composer
whose work investigates the collision of sound and theatrics, combining
ordered systems with intuitive choices of sound making using found
objects, homemade instruments, and various digital and analog
electronics. He has worked with a wide variety of artists including
Gordon Beeferman, Martha Colburn, Fast Forward, Fulminate Trio, Susan
Hefner, Gordon Monahan, Psychotic Quartet, LaDonna Smith, Talking Band,
and Peter Zummo.
Shelley Hirsch is
“an unorthodox, extraordinary fusion of vocalist, composer, and
performance artist ” (Anne LeBaron) whose work encompasses story telling
pieces, staged performances, compositions, improvisations,
collaborations, installations, and radioplays, which have been presented
on 5 continents… She has performed hundreds of concerts of
improvised music with great musicians including Anthony Coleman,
Christian Marclay, Ikue Mori, Toshio Kajiwara, Hans Reichel, Min Xiao
Fen, Tony Buck, David Simons, Johannes, Connie and Matthias Bauer, Paul
Lovens, David Watson, Marina Rosenfeld, Jim Staley, DJ Olive, Denman
Maroney, Joey Baron, Mark Dresser, Ned Rothenberg, Marc Ribot, Cyro
Baptista, Butch Morris, Elliot Sharp, Uchihashi Kasuhisa, Joe
Williamson, etc. She can be heard on dozens of CDs including her just
released CDs “The Far In, Far Out Worlds of Shelley Hirsch” (Tzadik) and
“Duets” with gutarist Uchihashi Kasuhisa (Innocence Records), and on
her solo CD “States” (Tellus); her storytelling CD “O Little Town of
East New York” (Tzadik); “Haiku Lingo” (No Mans Land) last two
co-composed with longtime collaborator keyboardist David Weinstein- and
the LP “Singing” (Apollo).

- Daniel Kelly - keyboard, piano and.....loops
- LYRE BIRD, aka Darriau/Down Duo, is a New York group exploring unique
instruments of wind, water, metal and earth. Their acoustic instruments
and live loops create intricate atmospheres of unusual texture and
groove. The musicians are; multi reedist and player of various Balkan
instruments, Matt Darriau (Klezmatics and Paradox Trio...) and Katie
Down (the Ukuladies), flautist, theatrical sound designer and composer
who has been playing homemade instruments and found objects since she
was about three, including glass harmonica, steel cello, lithophone,
toys and voice. They often feature a wildcard and this evening it will
be the eclectic keyboardist Daniel Kelly. ////
9:30pm - b.mez is an improvisational loop and fx-based project
featuring members of Birdsongs of the Mesozoic plus guests.

- Formed in 1980, post-punk, art-rock pioneers Birdsongs of the
Mesozoic are known world-wide for their wide-ranging, innovative
instrumental constructions. In contrast to the compositionally-based
Birdsongs, b.mez functions as a nimble landing craft, emphasizing
spontaneity and improvisational energy, while retaining the structured
sensibility that guides the mother ship.
