Please see below re: Drena Fagen's e-mail (which she knows I am sharing)...I did take the liberty of asking Heather where the MHCs are with this.  They are not yet involved so it goes on the list for our potential lobbyist should we choose to "pick it up"....for now - just an fyi~

Subject: another important piece of legislation!!

Hi Michele,

Thank you a million times over for your commitment to the legislative issues. I just got a notice from a social work organization that the permanent exemption was killed!! Great news.

At the very bottom of the statement was a note about other pending legislation. THIS one is ALSO very important to the expansion of our practice as LCATs. Wondering if you can do a little digging to find out where it stands in the legislature and who we can call about this one.  So, so important! Right now I cannot legally work as an LCSW in my own private practice. I cannot hire any other mental health professional in my practice. Same goes in reverse. An LCSW practice cannot hire an LCAT. This law must change.

A. 3910 Legislation to amend the corporate practice laws to allow LMSWs, LCSWs and the other Mental Health Practitioners to form a single corporate structure. Currently one can only form a corporation with one’s own professional group. This amendment would promote better interprofessional health care and transprofessional collaborative practice. Psychology and other disciplines are also considering similar positions on this issue.

I will look into it on the social work end as well.

thanks again,
Drena
