Hi All,

Curious if anyone else knew this was being worked on?  It is the first I have heard about it.  Something that LCAT’s might desire as well?

Kristin

BREAKING NEWS!

LPs May Apply to Provide DWI

Assessment Services

Greetings!

Due to tireless efforts by NAAP's lobbyists, LPs can now apply directly to OASAS--the State Office of Alcohol & Substance Abuse Services--and ask to be placed on their list of approved providers for the Impaired Driver Assessment services.

NAAP's lobbyists met with OASAS in January to seek clarification concerning placement on the list for LPs, as current laws do not specifically identify LPs as mental health professionals allowed to provide these services.

Based on information provided by our lobbyists regarding current licensure statute and regulation, practice guidelines, and SED opinions related to the LP scope of practice, the OASAS general counsel has concluded that LPs are indeed eligible to seek placement on the OASAS Impaired Driver Services List.

Kristin,

Thank you so much for forwarding.

This really speaks to what can be accomplished with lobby efforts/representation.

Its my dream that the "Super 8" forms some type of 501c4 to actively address concerns on a political level without the constraints of what 501c3s can and cannot do. (I know - Ill keep dreaming!)

Though my "official" work is on hiatus - I am very actively following and recently went back to school for fundraising and nonprofit administration.

I will chime in here and there when I feel I can be helpful.

Best to all~

Michele
