Accordingto our Terms of Service our free widget may only be embedded in websites (on pages which can be accessed by anybody using a standard web browser). For Digital Signage applications we offer a pro version of the same widget with a few additional features. If interested please contact us for more details.
WeatherWidget.io provides an easy, interactive interface which you can use to build and customize a weather widget for any website. Following you can find a description for all available fields of this interface.
Select a font for the widget. Two types of fonts are available: (1) Stacks with "web safe" font-families, i.e. fonts that are usually found on most operating systems, and (2) Google fonts. For the "web safe" fonts only the first font of the stack is shown and if a user doesn't have installed on his/her system this font, then a fallback will beused.
A gradient is used on the background of these themes. You can change the color of the gradient by changing the "Background" color in the "Customize" tab. By adjusting the opacity of the "Background" color you can show more or less of the gradient effect.
A small repeating image is used as the background of these themes. Adding a "Background" color in the "Customize" tab will hide the background image but you can still add a "Background" color with a lower opacity to create a "colorize" effect over the image pattern.
A large image is used as the background of these themes. Adding a "Background" color in the "Customize" tab will hide the background image but you can still add a "Background" color with a lower opacity to create a "colorize" effect over the image.
A single "Weather Conditions" theme is currently available. This displays a different background image and colors according to the current weather. Please note that you can not customize the colors of this theme.
The colors can be set by either typing any valid color in an input field, or by clicking the color swatch next to the field and selecting a color using the color picker. Note that the rightmost column on the color picker selects the opacity.
The background color of the widget. With an image based theme the background color is usually removed so that the image behind it can be seen. You can also make the background, semi-transparent by lowering its opacity in order to blend and colorize whatever lies behind it.
This is the color background for all the odd forecast day columns (i.e. 1, 3, 5, 7). Setting this to a color (e.g. black or white) with low opacity makes it easy to blend the accent with the background color.
The color for the drop shadow behind text and icons. This is sometimes useful to visually separate the text and icons from the background (most useful when the background is an image or when text and icons have a similar color to the background)
Adding the weather widget to your website takes just a couple of minutes. All you need to do is to paste the supplied code to the location where you want the widget to appear. Watch the following tutorial to learn all the details.

ActiveSky is an injector. It gets weather reports and pushes them into XP. It's not a displayer. You can do something with clouds, but really it's just an injector. XEnviro is (if I remember correctly) a displayer. It will intrepret what the injector tells it and then display it in the sim, to various degrees of goodness.
XAmbience Pro is coming, but it has been coming since June last year and we still have no firmer date then 'in a few weeks'. There is a 60+ (or even 70+ by now) page thread on the forum discussing XA Pro and when it will eventually arrive. As @JoseCFIIsaid, there is a whole group of us waiting for the release so we can read the reviews and see if it is as good as the developer keeps on telling us it will be.
Hardly if you fly in Vulkan/4K even with a big time PC/Config your FSP can loose around 15 to 25 fps which is huge but if you do fly in 2K then you go around 30 fps in average where Active Sky will provide 40/50 fps if your machine can handle overcast weather at 40 fps like it goes on my side for instance.
I know that you have an impressive sim. I run a 1080P monitor and I'm well aware that some who run 4K have poor performance. I'm also primarily a GA flyer and for me xEnviro is doing a very nice job with the weather as illustrated by these pics I took today:
I am planning to buy a good weather addon. An addon that gives a good realistic effect. I heard about REX Simulations. I searched and read about the feautures and also saw some videos on it on youtube. I like it and its really amazing except for one thing. REX does not have the whiteout effect that happens while flying through the clouds. Is there any addon that provide such effect?
I have the REX SF3D / ASN combination running on my FSX installation and I do get the whiteout effect from time to time. I assume you mean the effect when you look out of the window and see nothing but white (or a very pale light blue in my case)? Or when switching to an outside view the aircraft is obscured?
The difference between weather engines is pretty significant, Scianoir. REX is at least 5 years behind HiF. While REX's make superior textures, few will probably agree their weather engines are on par. Consequently, most use the following combination:
It's a pricey combination for sure; if money is an issues, I'd get AS2016 w/ASCA or REX SkyForce. The latter has a weather engine; however, as stated above, its nowhere near as good as HiFi's wx engine.
I'm using P3D V4.3; however, I used the AS2016 w/ASCA/ENTEX combination in FSX. Yes, AS2016 has pretty solid performance hit; HOWEVER, it's VERY customizable and you can tailor it to maximize performance. You'll definitely see a massive immersion bump from switching for Rex OD to AS16.
Thanks Matt. I actually have been using the AS16 weather engine for a couple of years now but with Rex texturesand I agree there was quite a difference when I stopped using the Rex weather engine. I was actually thinking about changing from my old Rex E+OD textures to something like ASCA and ENVTEX which was why I was asking about performance in FSX (where as you know VAS usage remains a consideration unlike P3Dv4).
I often fly at past dates to re-fly my real travels - or to prepare for upcoming (in that case I just go 1 year back). In P3D I used Active Sky to mimic the real weather of that particular day (and, more important, season). But as far as it appears to me, MSFS by default only offers live weather for today, or artificial situations.
Historic weather isn't possible yet. It's only live weather. And none of the available addons come even close to what AS did in FSC/P3D. Having said that: I like the live weather in MSFS a LOT more than any weather in any other sim (including AS in P3D). Seeing clouds up to the horizon instead of in a small circle around you is enough already to be very happy with what MSFS offers be default.
No way, this is a major drawback of this sim. More frustrating, it does not even record the weather on a 24 h-period. And the main MSFS honcho in Seattle has been playing stupid for quite some time now, pretending that he doesn't understand where is the problem.
It is complicated as ASobo has introduced a new way to depict weather using MeteoBlue which, as I understand, does not make it easy. We get a superb global weather, at least most of the time, but the engine does not lend itself to keep history.
If I may Gerold, don't try to replicate what you are used to in P3D. This is a different environment. Leaving P3D to MSFS you get some, you leave some. A lot of good stuff, some frustrations too. You will love it.
I acquired REX WF Weather early after its release as MSFS live weather was abysmal at the time. I used it exclusively for several months with very few issues. I noticed that MSFS live weather show improvement and began using it more and more, but I continued to fall back on REX WF when needed, so I still found it valuable. In fact I fell back on it once early last week. So I keep it updated.
I doubt that. Historic weather is one of the main reasons people want a 3rd party weather addon. The fact that it doesn't get priority says absolutely nothing about the popularity of a certain desired feature. I myself can't imagine that anyone who likes to fly in various locations all over the globe (which is something MSFS really focuses on) is NOT interested in historic weather.
