The Community Dispute Resolution Center (CDRC) and Way2Go invite area residents to participate in a workshop created for family members and caregivers called “Retiring From Driving: A Resource for Caregivers.” This collaborative effort strives to support the elder community and their families around the difficult decision to retire from driving.

Retiring from Driving occurs when an individual, often an older adult, decides to transition from owning and actively driving their own vehicle to using other available forms of transportation.  Reasons people may choose to retire from driving include significant financial savings, the ready availability of other forms of transportation, and the need to accommodate a diminishing ability to drive safely.

This workshop will provide family members and caregivers with skills for managing tough family conversations.  The workshop will also educate participants about the many transportation options available in Tompkins County.  This 90 Minute Workshop will be offered throughout the Fall months, with the first session held on September 17, 2012 at Lifelong Learning Center from 10:00am to 11:30am. This workshop is offered at no cost and geared to provide useful and applicable information for all community members. Please RSVP, as light refreshments will be provided.
