I'm speaking in a webinar next week (Dec 10). The topic is Inclusive Planning.  I crowd-sourced my presentation at our November Coordinated Plan meeting. I learned we are more inclusive in our outreach than I thought. That is the power of leveraging our active participating agencies. I think this will be a good use of your time. I'm looking to learning from the other presenters. I hope you join us. There's only 100 seats at this webinar, so you'll have to beat 99 others to join the call.  It will be recorded and posted later.

Hi Amber,

Since you are the first (and only) person to respond to my announcement, I’ll share with you the questions we’ll be asked.

They’ll help me get ready.

Questions for speakers

1. With inclusive planning, do you help to educate and promote leaders from within different communities? What is the value for transportation in doing that?

2. Does coordination help with outreach?

3. Is contribution of funding a must before engaging in outreach and working with a partner organization?

4. Doesn’t it create much more work – and cost more – to go out to populations instead of relying on public meetings? What is the value?

5. What is a concrete example of a new transportation service or an improved service due to inclusive planning and design? (Some of this is covered in your presentations, so I will not ask this question if you have already answered it.)

Dwight:

This sounds interesting. NYPTA has a Video conference board meeting at 2:30 on the 10th as well. I’d be interested in viewing the webinar but would need to sign out by 2:20 or so. I’ll leave a space on the webinar for someone else who can stay the whole time. Thanks for the info though

Hello Dwight,

This is Cynthia Kloppel & from my persceptive in working with you as the Mobility Program Specialist over the last five years, here are my responses to your questions:

Questions for speakers
1. With inclusive planning, do you help to educate and promote leaders from within different communities? Yes broadly speaking all participants involved in area Mobility Management have an opportunity to learn by observation & active engagement in the County Coordinated Transportation Plan Meeting. Participants learn or increase skill areas in: meeting process, collaborative problem solving & work on common prioritized goals, networking, & specific transportation learning. What is the value for transportation in doing that?  The value is a stronger, broader, more informed & effective respresentation and work on area transportation goals.  2. Does coordination help with outreach?  Absolutely yes!  The more organizations that are knowledgeable & promoting your services the better!  You can do so much more with partners than working in isolation.  3. Is contribution of funding a must before engaging in outreach and working with a partner organization?  No it could be a start to working together however ongoing, regularly scheduled management discussions on terms of collaboration would be prudent.    4. Doesn’t it create much more work – and cost more – to go out to populations instead of relying on public meetings?  Yes, I would think it would cost more to go out to populations & especially so if you need to travel extensively to do so.  What is the value? The value of going out to populations is the engagement on transportation with diverse populations, getting their perspective on transportation needs & system feedback, and having a more complete, community based assessment of transportation inventory, needs and priorities for ongoing development of the Transportaiton Plan.  5. What is a concrete example of a new transportation service or an improved service due to inclusive planning and design? Ithaca Carshare's Easy Access Plan!  (Some of this is covered in your presentations, so I will not ask this question if you have already answered it.)

Sincerely,

Cynthia Kloppel
