Ok so nearly two weeks ago i plugged my phone into the headphone jack of some old stereo system my uncle has, i was trying to set it up and in the process the phone fell out of my hand, i was sitting down so it was about a 2-3 foot drop. i picked the phone up and it was on the boot up screen (white background and Black apple), it was taking abnormally long to boot up so i held the home and power button, which i now know was a TERRIBLE idea. fast forward to the present and the phone is stuck in DFU mode, when i try to restore it the screen turns on with a black background and white apple and then iTunes gets stuck on "waiting for iPhone" and gives me the error 4005. I've tried changing the USB cable, changing the USB port, using a different windows PC and even a mac, all with the latest version of iTunes and no it was not a host file thing. I've tried every software solution that my research has brought me and the problem still persists so that leads me to believe it's a hardware issue so i'm wondering what part is it that i have to replace to fix it, i'm a bit of a tinkerer and i'd rather avoid getting price gouged at a repair shop. Sorry if the post was too much of a read but i figured it'd be best to provide all the details. Thank you in advance for any and all help

I had the same... and a technician told me that most of the time it is due to a faulty "cheek detector" the one that turns off the screen when taking the phone to the ear. I worked right on the minute he changed it.

The instructions given by StevenS worked for my iphone 8 plus on Win 10 64-bit OS. I was using a usb hubconnected to my pc. I plugged the cable straight into the pc and rebooted the pc. Started iTunes and chose "Update". Worked like a charm.

Hi; thankyou for this information, it gave me somewhere to start. I had the same issue but with an iPhone 8. Fixing the Mobile Device Support program didn't do the job for me, however. I tried everything with my HP Spectre (Gen 1), including using a brand new virgin cable, but it must be something specfic to my computer's configuration. In the end I was able to use my brother's computer to do a factory reset, and then do a backup from my computer.

Replace your Battery - In some cases, replacing the battery can fix the iTunes error 4005. The main problem is because the battery have a low power. We recommend you to replace with a original battery.

Replace the Dock connector - If you used some non-original chargers, your dock connector can be damaged and have a bad communication with the usb cable. By replacing the connector, the communication will be perfect and you will fix the error 4005. Make sure you are using a original certified cable when you restoring your device via iTunes.

Restore Without a LCD - Disconnect the display from your device completely, connect to iTunes and try to restore it. If you have hardware problem in the display, this will bypass the problem. If you still get a Error 4005, then move to the next method.

Remove compass IC - The compass chip can be the main problem you getting iTunes error 4005. Try to remove the Compass iC to get rid of this issue. We must to note that you need to have a technical skills to do this method.

WOW!!!!! How come out of 6 days of searching I only come to this now?! Removing the screen worked like a charm! Thank you so much for this. If I could click the upvote/"find this helpful" button one million times I would.

However it might not necessarily be a hardware error as you mentioned that the device is powering onto the Apple logo. This is probably a corrupt chip (A8 chip) which is the hard drive of the iPhone. Normally I would recommend Dr Fone Wondershare to fix the system but Apple have encrypted the firmware on these chips in a certain way to prevent a 3rd party from repairing the system so it could be the U2 IC chip, RF Qualcomm Power management chip or it could be corrupt firmware.

I've tried all the steps and still nothing. Screen disconnected, itunes recognizes phone but keeps getting 4005 error. The serial number is n/a. Out of warranty and apple wants $390 to just look at it plus shipping!

I am having the same problem. I have an iPhone 5c that is stuck in DFU mode and doesn't reboot properly. The strange thing is that it's like dead when connected to my Macbook Pro 2016 (using original USB-C to Lightning cable), but when connected to power, it turns on and reboots constantly on the apple logo.

The same for me also. The instructions that StevenS gave worked for me also. Thank you Steven. I greatly appreciate it. with the help of TECHSLIPS i was able to download from the free premium link generator

same problem occurred to me during restore process. after extracting file msg, the waiting for ipad message appear and the USB IPAD is gone in device manager windows 10 EOM fully updated. then w8ting for a several minutes error 4005 appears.

I had the same issue. It's resolved now, I accepted the new icloud terms and conditions I had been ignoring for a while that was the reason my icloud wasn't working. Now my pictures are downloading just fine. If your icloud in settings is greyed out check that you have accepted the terms and conditions. Hope this helps.

And to follow up from above - no, it's NOT my system. My operating system is completely up to date and have TONS of extra space, etc. I've been through this so many times before. It's ON THEM. Always. They need to fix this on their end or at least provide us with the update that resolves these unacceptable bugs.

I am relieved to have found this page as I have started digitising all our old home videos and they were working perfectly until the end of October. Now ALL shared videos do not work BUT they do work on the original device and in my photo album, itself.

The only thing that worked for me was to click "duplicate" on my errored out videos. The new duplicate works then also unlocks the error with the problomatic file so i was able to play both and then delete the newly made duplicate.

I have had this particular problem on and off for AT LEAST TWO YEARS, probably THREE... It's always during around a new IOS update. Surprise Surprise. They KNOW this problem. Currently, it's affecting all of my new videos and some of my old videos that are longer than 4 minutes. What's weird this time is that sometimes they would play and then when I go to another video and come back, that same video that played 3 seconds ago wouldn't play anymore. Then I wait the next day, it would play again in the morning. But now I'm back to square one - they aren't playing again. Hence, why I am here along with everybody else. It's so incredibly frustrating. I've been through this so many times before but it's sad this is still affecting so many people. Everybody, please help send your complaints to their team nonstop until they fix it.

I'm having the same issue. I can't view the video at all and it doesn't appear in the icloud browser. Only affecting videos of 4k and 30 fps, everything else is fine. I can't edit and then duplicate the video. I can't share the video to any other platform. Viewing the video file in windows file explorer shows a smaller file size than the iphone reports, so I suspect there's a chunk of data missing in the cloud somewhere that I can't download.

I Have a problem with my iphone 7 plus, first the problem is the device always "SEARCHING" signal, then I try to reset network but still SEARCHING signal, then I restart / turn off until 10 times but still same, then I reset all setting in GENERAL but still SAME like before, and then I RESTORE it from ITunes, When restore until half of finish there is a error.. anyone have a same problem?? (ios 10.3.2)

That error is often indicative of a critical hardware failure. If the troubleshooting steps in the article don't work, the phone will likely have to be replaced. Given the problems you were having that led you to attempt to restore it to begin with, I'm guessing that's the case.

If you went through the troubleshooting steps and still get that error, it is not a software problem. It's a hardware failure. It should still be under warranty. Make an appointment at the genius bar of your local Apple Store.

I've got a problem registering a FortiToken on my iPhone 6 Plus. When I try to manually enter the code, or scan the QRCode, it fails with a "runtime error". However, my iPhone 5S will register the token without complaint.

I had issues when moving from iphone 5 to iphone 6. I had to remove secondary auth from my users on the firewall and save the user, then go back in and reassign the secondary auth with mobile token and resend auth email/sms to the user. May be related, so FYI.

Also, if you were to copy the app from your old device and then restore it to your iPhone 6 Plus, the old tokens will no longer work. This is by design. The app uses unique device fingerprint data to protect the stored token seed from copy and restore attacks. You would in that case have to delete your old tokens (Fortinet and third party) and then re-create them again. regards,

Sorry for the delay reply. Even completely uninstalling and re installing does not fix the issue. Do you know of a timeline for a fix? We're about to roll out FortiClient VPN with FortiToken Mobile, and we can't really do that with this problem.
