Have you installed or used Bugzilla?  Do you recommend it? Any tips in the way of setting it up or using it?

Thanks

Relax.  Don't be so hard on yourself.   You don't have to be perfect...

...you just have to be better than everyone else.

It's great for hardcore bug tracking. It's terrible for non technical or lazy people. You really have to spend time managing it, updating bugs and whatnot. Really depends on who will be using the system and the purpose. If you are working with clients and they will be reporting bugs, I'd recommend something else that is easier. Trac, redmine have prettier interfaces and are simpler. Or go with a SaaS solution like the free basecamphq.com plan or lighthouseapp.com

So in-house bug tracking as we’re QA’ing and launching 5 products simultaneously would be fine?

In the course of a day, we may find one bug in one product and two small issues with another product.  It’s hard to keep track of everything without centralization.  We test with all hands on deck, including the General Manager.  Is this too techy for in-house non-geeks to report bugs as we find them in QA sessions?

If you have a solid testing phase (sounds like you do) where pretty much the only job is to report bugs, bugzilla will work great. It's tough to be motivated to put in bugs as you are going along. There's not a "quick entry" type thing (maybe in a newer release, havent used it in like a year), each bug entry can be a bit long with a lot of clicks. That just hurts motivation to put in a bug if you come across them in the middle of doing something else that is in a rush.

There may be a slight training cost (like an hour) to sit the non-bugzilla familiar people and show them how to use the basics (bug entry, update, search).

Setting up bugzilla for me has been a hit or miss. Some systems it installs easily and perfectly. Other systems gave me a headache because of some stupid apache config setting somewhere.

That’s great feedback.  I may look around for something that’s a little easier to add entries to.
