Hello Nyinyi,

Over the past decade or so, liberal Democrats have become more sympathetic to two particular causes: stripping away the Second Amendment, and opening America’s borders.

Despite continent’s destabilizing politics, left-wing politicians and lobbyists love to point to Europe as a justification for both of these endeavors. But we don’t’ need to look very far to see how these policies could have disastrous effects.

Hello Nyinyi,

This is the most incredible map you will ever see...
It reveals a huge untapped energy reserve that spans the entire United States.

Experts at the U.S. Department of Energy believe this fuel could provide America with a “30,000-year energy supply.”

Goldman Sachs says this is a “power that’s virtually inexhaustible.”

And the Los Angeles Times says this massive ocean of energy “may be the most prolific renewable fuel source that most people have never heard of.”

And there’s a relatively unknown Midwestern company with the technology that’s key to harnessing this INFINITE energy that’s buried beneath ALL 50 states.

As our in-house tech expert told me, “This could be bigger than ExxonMobil, Chevron and Shell Oil combined … and make investors John D. Rockefeller-type fortunes. Early investors will have the chance to mint millions.”

Details here…

While middle-class Americans are pouring money into the stock market...

Peter Thiel, the billionaire founder of PayPal, paid $10 million for a second passport and a 400-acre estate in New Zealand.

The list of Americans taking such dramatic steps is incredible...

Larry Ellison (Oracle founder), Bill Foley (Fidelity National Financial Inc. Chairman), Tim Chang (of venture-capital firm Mayfield Fund), Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, and many more.

In fact, Reid Hoffman (the founder and CEO of LinkedIn), says an incredible 50% of Silicon Valley billionaires are now preparing for a major crisis.

And what do these ultra-wealthy folks know that you don't?

Please click here now or read below for a special offer from Jim Rickards & Agora Financial.
Dear Reader,

Jim Rickards here. If you haven’t heard, I’ve just released a new book called The Big Drop. It wasn’t a book I was intending to write. But it warns of a few critical dangers that every American should begin preparing for right now.

Here’s the catch -- this book is not available for sale. Not anywhere in the world. Not online through Amazon. And not in any brick-and-mortar bookstore.

Instead, I’m on a nationwide campaign to spread the book far and wide... for FREE. Because every American deserves to know the truth about the imminent dangers facing their wealth.

That’s why I’ve gone ahead and reserved a free copy of my new book in your name. It’s on hold, waiting for your response. I just need your permission (and a valid U.S. postal address) to drop it in the mail.

Click here to fill out your address and contact info. If you accept the terms, the book will arrive at your doorstep in just a week or two.

Thanks for your time,

Jim Rickards

P.S. Even if you don’t want the book, please take a look here and write back to me to let me know why you’re denying this free offer. That way, I’ll take your copy off hold and send this note to someone else. But when you see all the bonuses I’ve included, I know you’ll want to claim your package right away.

MAY 19, 2017

I’ve been rough on President Trump all week, so this morning… the respite.

When Does All That Evidence of Collusion Arrive?

Thursday, White House communications officials were eager to spotlight these comments from legislators, admitting or confirming, that they had, so far, seen no evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.

Sam Stein, Huffington Post: “But just to be clear, there has been no actual evidence yet.”

REP. MAXINE WATERS (D-CA): “No, it has not been.”

Keep in mind, this is “Mad Maxine” Waters, who begins that interview by contending, “Lock her up, lock her up, all of that, I think that was developed strategically with people from the Kremlin, with Putin.” Right, right, there’s no way the Trump campaign could have possibly thought of that rallying cry on their own. That’s gotta be the work of Russian intelligence right there — you’ve cracked the case, Congresswoman!

Then there’s a Republican senator who hasn’t been a consistent Trump ally with the same assessment.

Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina: “There is no evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russians as of this date. I do not believe the president himself is a target or subject of any criminal investigation as of right now. So that’s what I know right now, and where this goes, I don’t know. Follow the facts where they lead.”

Perhaps the most significant comes from Senator Dianne Feinstein of California:

WOLF BLITZER, CNN: “The last time we spoke, Senator, I asked you if you had actually seen evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russians, and you said to me -- and I’m quoting you now -- you said, ‘not at this time.’ Has anything changed since we spoke last?”

SENATOR DIANNE FEINSTEIN (D-CA): “Well, not—no, it hasn’t.”

BLITZER: “But I just want to be precise, Senator. In all of the—you’ve had access from the intelligence committee, from the Judiciary committee, all of the access you’ve had to very sensitive information, so far you’ve not seen any evidence of collusion, is that right?”

SEN. FEINSTEIN: “Well, evidence that would establish that there’s collusion. There are all kinds of rumors around. There are newspaper stories, but that’s not necessarily evidence.”

Feinstein is the most intriguing, because think about how easily she could have fudged her answer: “I’ve seen things that trouble me, Wolf” or “I’ve seen things that raise serious questions” or some other word salad that avoid the word “no.”

And then there was this Reuters article, reporting that Michael Flynn and other advisers to Donald Trump’s campaign were in contact with Russian officials and others with Kremlin ties in at least 18 calls and e-mails during the last seven months of the 2016 presidential race,

The people who described the contacts to Reuters said they had seen no evidence of wrongdoing or collusion between the campaign and Russia in the communications reviewed so far. But the disclosure could increase the pressure on Trump and his aides to provide the FBI and Congress with a full account of interactions with Russian officials and others with links to the Kremlin during and immediately after the 2016 election.

(The Reuters story cites “current and former U.S. officials” as sources. Every time we see the words “former U.S. official” we should keep in mind there’s a good chance the source would be more accurately characterized as a “former Obama-administration official.” This doesn’t mean that former official is automatically lying, just that they have a particular agenda for leaking this information, and one that is being effectively withheld from readers.)

Democrats are increasingly convinced that the seemingly endless storm of allegations around Trump will inevitably lead to his impeachment, and an impeachment that will come soon, not late in Trump’s first term. They’re convinced that evidence of Trump violating the law exists, and they’re convinced that the FBI or the investigating committees in Congress will find it.

Are any Democratic lawmakers starting to fear that they’re not going to find that evidence? The intelligence community is presumably always watching the Russian government as closely as they can. The FBI counterintelligence guys presumably track Russian agents on our soil as much as possible. You figure the NSA can track just about any electronic communication between Russians and figures in the Trump campaign.

If there was something sinister and illegal going on between the Trump campaign and the Russian government, the U.S. government as a whole had every incentive in the world to expose that as quickly as possible. They didn’t expose it before Election Day, they didn’t expose it before the Electoral College voted, they didn’t expose it before Inauguration Day… How many months have the best investigators in the United States been digging into this?

Imagine a scenario where the FBI and prosecutors eventually can prove some underling violated the law — obstruction of justice? Lying to investigators? — but not Trump. Will Democrats accept that?

Pity the FBI and intelligence community. They have to get to the bottom of this in a world where just under half of Capitol Hill, most of the media, almost all of academia, a good portion of the think-tank world and “intellectual class” etc., believe that the real mission of the investigation is to correct the “error” of the 2016 election.

If you talk to Democrats lately, they speak not as if the voters merely made a mistake, but that somehow history itself has gone wrong. They speak we’re living in an alternative timeline, experiencing events that “weren’t supposed” to happen. In their eyes, Hillary Clinton was obviously so much more appealing that Trump. She led in the polls! She had so many more campaign offices! She spent so much more money! She ran so many more ads! Surely, a result like this must be the result of someone cheating.

Because so many Democrats associate Trump with apocalyptic threats — global warming, the sudden establishment of a repressive theocracy like The Handmaid’s Tale, nuclear confrontation, race wars — they all see themselves as their own personal Kyle Reeses, on a mission to save the future.

With this desperate, all-or-nothing mindset, they will always insist that the evidence to take down Trump is waiting to be found, just around the next corner…

Whoa, Leakers, Take It Easy. You’re Starting to Embarrass the Obama Folks

Raise your hand if you expected John Brennan, who President Obama appointed to head the Central Intelligence Agency in 2013, to offer a qualified defense of Trump:

“What I have found appalling is the number of leaks that have taken place over the last several months,” former CIA Director John Brennan said at the SALT conference in Las Vegas, the annual gathering of hedge-fund managers and other financiers. “This needs to be stopped.” Brennan was CIA director during President Obama’s second term, stepping down in January, when Mike Pompeo replaced him.

Brennan said Trump made a “serious mistake” when he reportedly shared sensitive intelligence with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Ambassador Sergey Kislyak, in an Oval Office meeting in early May. But this mistake wasn’t sharing intelligence; it was violating the protocol for doing so. “I shared intelligence with the Russians when I was the director of the CIA,” Brennan said. “But you share that through intelligence channels, and you make sure you word it in such a way as to not reveal sources and methods. President Trump didn’t do that.”

Brennan said the press coverage of Trump’s impromptu intelligence reveal was “hyperbolic” and possibly more damaging than anything Trump revealed. “The damage that was done is what was leaked in the aftermath, what was put in the media. The real damage to national security is the leaks.”He suggested, without saying so explicitly, that news accounts revealed more sensitive information than Trump did.

“The real damage to national security is the leaks,” Brennan said. “These individuals who still stay within the government and are leaking this stuff to the press need to be brought to task.”

A Warm Welcome for Trump from… the Saudis?

The Wall Street Journal offers a fascinating look inside Saudi Arabian politics, and the forces behind next week’s big summit:

President Trump will receive an effusive welcome here from his royal hosts determined to underscore that once again Saudi Arabia and the U.S. are close allies. Barack Obama favored Iran, but that’s over. King Salman, 81, is gathering 50 Islamic leaders to meet Mr. Trump. This unprecedented assembly is intended to show not only that Saudi Arabia is the leader of the Islamic world but that Muslim leaders support the U.S. against Islamic State terrorists…

Mr. Trump’s presence is an opportunity for [Deputy Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman] to show off his modernization effort. An extravaganza featuring something for everyone — the Harlem Globetrotters taking on a Saudi basketball team, car races, country singer Toby Keith — is intended to convince Americans there is a new, open Saudi Arabia and Saudis that mixing cultures and sexes isn’t evil.

Just wait until President Trump learns that Islam opposes charging interest on loans.

ADDENDA: Our John J. Miller interviews Ben Sasse about his new book, The Vanishing American Adult: Our Coming-of-Age Crisis and How to Rebuild a Culture of Self-Reliance.

I hear a lot of people saying Sasse’s new book is easily the second-best book about fatherhood and raising children out there.

Dear Reader (Including readers who hold deer dear — see below),

I’m pretty burned out on politics. But my NR contract states very clearly that I must “Put words together that leave the impression you said something about politics stuff.” I wouldn’t want to violate that. So, I’ll start with that stuff.

I think the appointment of former FBI director Robert Mueller as special counsel to investigate the Russia–Trump connections is a gift for the Trump administration in the short and medium term. And, if there’s nothing to find, the long term as well.

Yes, yes, all the handwringing cautionary tales about how special counsels once in power get seduced by blood magic, eat the hearts of young children, invade Poland, and make Steve Gutenberg a star are true, if by that you mean they sometimes get a bit out of control (Hey, I’m talking seriously, not literally — it’s all the rage). And that certainly might happen here, even given Mueller’s sterling reputation. Maybe the blood magic will get to him the way it did Lawrence Walsh and Patrick Fitzgerald. He might even stumble on something juicy and get enticed like Homer Simpson finding a box on the street. “Wire hangers? Expired medicine? Old newspapers?! Okay, Homer, stay calm and quietly get this stuff inside your house!

But I think Hugh Hewitt is right about Mueller being a grown-up and an exemplary public servant, though I understand that some people are concerned that Mueller is too chummy with Comey for comfort.

But these are all long-term problems. And so is the concern that Donald Trump may actually be guilty of collusion in some meaningful, criminal sense. So far, however, that concern has no hard evidence to back it up, and, if such evidence exists, it will take a good long time for Mueller & Co. to find it, confirm it, and present it to the public.

Meanwhile, for the next weeks and months, Democrats have nowhere to go. I understand that Maxine Waters wants to get moving on impeachment right away, but Maxine Waters is an embarrassing buffoon and has been for my entire adult lifetime. She was probably a buffoon in my adolescence, too, I just didn’t know who she was until my early twenties when Kerosene Maxine started referring to the LA Riots as the “LA Rebellion” and accused the CIA of running drugs in South Central.

The point is that the Republicans can now say, “We need to let the Mueller investigation take its course” whenever the subject of Russia comes up. Even the congressional investigations have to throttle back now because, as Lindsay Graham noted yesterday, it’s going to be very hard to subpoena anyone who might be the subject of a criminal investigation. The mere process of “de-conflicting” the congressional and Mueller investigations could take months.

That means Donald Trump has a reprieve, politically. He can talk about his agenda. He can talk about infrastructure and job creation and all of the stuff he claims is his central focus.

Now of course that begs the question. (It also raises a question, which means something different from “begs the question,” even if a billion people don’t know that: To beg the question is to assume a conclusion that has not yet been proven. In Latin, the fallacy is called petitio principii or “assuming the initial point.”)

The conclusion being assumed here is that Donald Trump is capable of sticking to a disciplined message and agenda. To say the evidence for this is lacking is an understatement on par with saying that there’s only anecdotal evidence dogs lick their nether regions.

This gets to a point I tried to make last night on Special Report(scroll to around 9:05 for the video). My friend Mollie Hemingway is absolutely right when she says there are double standards at work here. The Obama administration got away with things — inappropriately sharing intelligence, influencing investigations, attacking the media — without a fraction of the gnashing of teeth and rending of cloth we’ve seen from the mainstream media, and without inviting a special counsel.

But the essential reason we got a special counsel and a media feeding frenzy is that Trump seems determined to do everything he can to invite chaos and hysteria to his administration.

The idea that the media or some shadowy cabal of “Never Trumpers” forced the president to fire James Comey in a comically incompetent manner is ludicrous. No one was holding Ivanka Trump hostage in a Motel 6 when Donald Trumpconfessed to Lester Holt that his administration’s explanation for why Comey was fired was a lie or forced Trump to admit that he fired Comey for his handling of the Russia investigation. (Though I like the image of David French clicking off the TV after the Holt interview, untying Ivanka, and telling her: “You’re free to go now, but if he stops tweeting stupid stuff, remember, we know where to find you.”)

I keep hearing that the media frenzy is solely the product of a conspiracy theory about Russian meddling run amok. What about the conspiracy theory that all of Trump’s problems are of other people’s making?

Puttin’ on the Ritz

I made this basic point at great length in my “news”letter last week — the most widely read G-File of 2017 I believe, which gets me an extra can of spam from the suits. It now seems to beconventional wisdom across much of the Right. Even Matthew Continetti, who has been among the best at trying to find the Christmas pony amidst the manure piles, seems to be convincedthat Trump is his own worst enemy.

Now, as someone who’s been writing for two years that Trump was lying when he said he could be presidential — to himself and to everyone else — I’m tempted to ask, “What took you so long?”

But that’s a fruitless question. The question now is, “Can Trump be contained?” Can Mike Pence, the Trump princelings, congressional leadership, and the rest of the imperial court grasp that their own self-interest depends entirely on getting Young Frankenstein’s monster to sing “Putting on the Ritz”?

If Trump could simply hold a tune — about jobs, tax reform, etc. — for a few months, his poll numbers would creep up, some good policy might get enacted, and, crucially for Trump, he would earn some political capital that might take the bite out of whatever Mueller finds, if he finds anything at all. Alternatively, keeping his fan base loyal but alienating everyone else is a recipe for staying in the mid 30s for the rest of his term and taking down the GOP majority in the House.

Needless to say, I’m skeptical Trump’s team can get him into the tux and teach him to tap dance. But what other choice do they have but to try?

Math, Horrible Math

Via Reason’s Robby Soave, I learned this morning about the effort to bring social-justice principles into grade schools (Campus Reform has the full write up, and I missed Kat Timpf’s article about this for some reason). Well, that’s an old story, you might say. And you’d be right. But this effort is focused on math.

Teach for America and something called “Edx” want teachers to attack math as the vile product of the Pale Penis People of Western Civilization:

In Western mathematics, our ways of knowing include formalized reasoning or proof, decontextualization, and algorithmic thinking, leaving little room for those having non-Western mathematical skills and thinking processes.

Also:

Mathematical ethics recognizes that, for centuries, mathematics has been used as a dehumanizing tool. Does one’s IQ fall on the lower half of the bell curve? Mathematics tells us that individual is intellectually lacking. Mathematics formulae also differentiate between the classification of a war or a genocide and have been used to trick indigenous peoples out of land and property.

Where on Earth does one begin? I’ve spent the last couple years working on a book that dives deep into the Romantic rejection of the Enlightenment. It was Rousseau who first, or at least most famously, leveled the indictment against the tyranny of science in his First Discourse. But these ideas were already in the water and they spread like contagion. For instance, Ernst Troeltsch, a German theologian and philosopher, proclaimed:

Romanticism too is a revolution . . . a revolution, above all, against the whole of the mathematico-mechanical spirit of science in western Europe, against a conception of Natural Law which sought to blend utility with morality, against the bare abstraction of a universal and equal Humanity.

All of this prattle about “algorithmic thinking” is just Romanticism with a fresh coat of paint. Now, I don’t want to get too deep in these weeds since the book won’t be out until early next year, and you’ll hear plenty about it later.

Nor do I want to dismiss Romanticism as, well, romantic nonsense. I’m actually sympathetic to some of it. But here’s the thing: Romanticism — or if you prefer post-modernism, relativism, etc. — has no place in math itself. To say that the poetry of the self has a place in the world of math is like saying that the boiling point of water depends on your feelings.

Take that bit about the bell curve of IQ. It’s an unpleasant fact that half of all people are of below average IQ. It’s also true that half of all people are below average height, weight, andeverything else. And the other half are above average. You know why? Because that’s what “average” means.

“Mathematics” doesn’t tell us that “that individual is intellectually lacking.” It just tells us that, by one measure of aptitude or intelligence, people who score on the lower end scored on the lower end. Any other interpretation comes from outside the realm of math. There are accomplished people of low IQ and there are high-IQ losers sitting in beanbag chairs in their parents’ basements. There are evil smart people and righteous dumb people, too. Your soul cannot be measured mathematically.

The bit about how math distinguishes between genocide and war is equally preposterous. Let us first stipulate that there is a difference between “genocide” and “war” and that knowing the difference has some utility. I’m open to different perspectives on where the line is drawn or how the definitions are reached. I for one consider it an enduring crime that the Soviets successfully defined away their own mass murder so that it didn’t fit the definition of genocide.

But surely marching millions into gas chambers is not the same thing as war. It’s true that one tool — among many — for making this distinction is called “math.” The model we came up with for distinguishing between war and genocide involves this mysterious craft called “counting.” But it also involves other things such as motives, means, and other aspects of what serious people call historical context. These criteria do not come from math, they come from politics, morality, and reason. All math does is count the dead. It takes human intelligence to place the dead in context. The Spanish Flu killed millions. It wasn’t genocide. You could look it up.

Blaming math for what people do with it should disqualify you from teaching math.

It’s also immoral, self-indulgent, and dangerous nonsense. We use math to make vaccines and model how to get them to indigenous peoples. We use math to feed the hungry. Teaching children that Western math is pernicious is the very essence of perniciousness. It is also incandescently stupid. Do Chinese computers use Confucian math?

This is Orwellianism in plain sight. In 1984, Winston Smith wonders whether the State will say “2 + 2 = 5.”

“You are a slow learner, Winston.”

“How can I help it? How can I help but see what is in front of my eyes? Two and two are four.”

“Sometimes, Winston. Sometimes they are five. Sometimes they are three. Sometimes they are all of them at once. You must try harder. It is not easy to become sane.”

The hypocrisy here is really quite breathtaking. How much pabulum have we been force-fed about the moral imperative of teaching STEM classes so that we can be “competitive” in what Barack Obama called the “education arms race” with China and India? How much head-popping hysteria have we had to put up with about the evils of teaching “creationism”?

Yet here we have a federally funded organization teaching poor and under-privileged children to look upon “formalized reasoning” and “algorithmic thinking” as tools of oppression.

China and India must be laughing their asses off. “Yeah, please go with that!”

Various & Sundry

When I started National Review Online, live chickens bobbed across the bullpen, following Jack Fowler as he dribbled bits and pieces from footlong hoagies that he never seemed to finish. Technologically, we were the equivalent of one of those “real” cardboard submarines you could order from the back of comic books. We used duct tape for everything. That was the only way we could keep the pneumatic tubes from leaking compressed air all over the place. Poor Ramesh, who spent most of his time making origami animals out of the subscription blow cards, would sometimes catch the jet stream and let his little swans fly around the room.

Obviously, I’m nostalgic for those days. But I’m also glad that we’ve come a long way. Charlie Cooke, the current Web editor — a much more august and daunting job than when I had it — walks around the office in a lab coat barking out orders to the safety-goggle-wearing interns who handle the laser arrays. But such technology is much more expensive, which is why we sometimes have to skimp on the safety gear. The cries from the larval William F. Buckleys ring out, “My eyes! The goggles! They do nothing!

Charlie usually responds, “Put it in a memo.”

“But I can’t see!”

“Dictate it to another intern, then.”

Of course, I’m kidding. Charlie doesn’t talk to the interns.

But what I’m not kidding about is that this is an expensive operation and National Review has always relied on the generosity and support of our readers. That support is more important than ever because of the transformations being wrought by the Web. Content wants to be free, but content isn’t free on the supply side.

This marks the beginning of the National Review Spring Webathon. We are trying to rebuild NRO from the ground-up so that it will work seamlessly not just on your computer but on all of your devices (Translation: We know that NRO can be maddeningly difficult to read on phones and tablets. We’re particularly sorry that we occasionally give people seizures or induce cases of gigantism in some readers.)

We are also trying to fend off a lawsuit from the director of Heatand the creator of Miami Vice . . . What’s that? Oh, sorry. It’s theother Michael Mann.

Anyway, he’s suing us — out of a desire to silence us. That effort costs money, too.

I understand that some folks are not happy with us these days and other folks value us more than ever. We appreciate this in all the meanings of the word. But we hope that everyone can appreciate that what we do, we do for love and commitment to a cause. That cause is larger than any one period or any one politician. If you agree with that and can help, please do. If you just get entertainment from getting furious at us, we hope you can help as well. If you can’t or won’t help, we understand and we’ll make do, fighting what we believe to be the good fight. Just don’t blame us for the gigantism the next time you open up NRO on your iPhone.

Canine Update: First off, my apologies to the subscribers to this “news”letter. When you subscribe, you get it on Fridays, well before the unwashed get it on Saturday mornings. Ideally, there would be extra bonus material in the e-mail so as to encourage more people to sign up. But one thing that shouldn’t happen is for you to get less than the decayed roués with dubious means of subsistence and of dubious origin who wait until Saturday (I kid, I kid, you’re all Dear Readers to me). But that’s what happened last week. The “news”letter form of the G-File was without a Canine Update. And I know only too well that many of you read that first — and sometimes solely — every week (including, often, my own lovely wife). So, if you missed it last week, you can find it here.

As for this week’s Canine Update, there’s not too much to report. The beasts are less than thrilled with the return of D.C.’s humidity (“like 1980s Al Sharpton’s sweat-pants fog”), which is odd given that Zoë is a South Carolina swamp dog. The heat may explain why Zoë has started sitting in her trademark style again in the car and while she’s more insistent on pampering in the air-conditioning. The heat has also caused Pippa to seek outcreeks, puddles, mud, condensation, and any other source of water, no matter how vile or filthy. Sneakers, my sister-in-law’s new puppy, is compensating for his outrageous cuteness with equally outrageous behavior, proving once again that cuteness is an evolutionary survival mechanism. Would you put up with an oleaginous lizard that ate your shoes and soiled your carpets?

On a different note, I’ve gotten a surprising amount of grief over this video of Zoë yelling at a deer we stumbled upon on a D.C. street. I understand that there are some deer fetishists —particularly in D.C. — who think that these disease-carrying hooved rats are as close as we will ever get to unicorns in our bleary, workaday lives. I also understand why they think it’s wrong for me to “let” my dog chase them in a park or wooded area. But I am a bit baffled by some of the outrage I’ve received from people about how my leashed dog barked at a deer that was on a street corner.

“How could you let your dog startle that deer!” a few people have shrieked at me. Uh, the deer startled us. Moreover, given the fact that coyotes have returned to D.C. and that Zoë looks a good deal like one, I think teaching them to flee from such creatures might be good for them (maybe not for me, given the deer attack from last year). But in this case, Zoë was completely in the right. All she was saying was “Stupid Deer! This isn’t your neighborhood! Also, you are supposed to go away when I shout at you!” And poor sweet Pippa was simply yelling, “Go away now, so I can chase tennis ball again. Tennis ball good! Good!” (a point she seems to have convinced my wife’s cat of).

ICYMI . . .

The discussion about math above reminded me of this 15-year-old G-File which I think is worth revisiting every now and then.

Dear Concerned American,

You probably don't know me, but I work at the largest underground media network in America.

We have 2.7 million subscribers – making us bigger than the Wall Street Journal. Yet, most Americans have never heard of us. And we intended to keep it that way... until recently...

...when I decided to leak a story that you are not being told by the media.
It concerns the civil unrest in our streets, race, inequality, drugs, and the US economy.
Frankly, you may find some of it offensive. But I do think it's important you at least give it a look. Our country is about to confront a new conflict... that will define our lives for decades to come.

Please click here to read it

Sincerely,

Will Bonner

P.S. As you might imagine, sharing information of this nature does not make us popular. In fact, we've been attacked before.

Our offices have been set on fire. Our content has been targeted by corrupt politicians and banned by some major corporate media outlets.

You may not have a chance to see this again. Click here to see it now. You risk nothing doing so.

P.P.S. I have instructed my staff to reserve a special, limited edition guide to this coming crisis for anyone who reads the letter. But be warned, we only have a few thousand remaining and I expect well over a thousand people will see this message today. Do not wait.

Hello Nyinyi,

During the previous two administrations, our military has been unable to track down and eliminate all proponents of terror in the Middle East. But while America is certainly weary of war, the threat of Islamic extremism continues to loom on the horizon.

Can President Trump and his security officials succeed where their predecessors failed?

In a move that is sure to upset his populist base, one which has been highly critical of foreign interventions, Trump signaled he is willing to bolster American forces in Afghanistan to hasten to defeat of the Islamic State.

Click here for an inside look into how Trump plans to defeat radical Islam in the country.

Liberty Headlines
Dear Reader,

On April 12th, some disturbing findings – in a 220-page book – were mailed to the White House.

This book holds vast implications for this country, our economy, and Trump's hopes of being re-elected in 2020.

The book comes from a 68 year old Maryland native, and counselor to governments, politicians, and businesses all over the world.

He has worked on presidential campaigns and met with everyone from Margaret Thatcher to Ron Paul (a close friend), to most recently the former head of the Federal Reserve Alan Greenspan.

The CEOs of two multi-million dollar financial research companies once credited their success almost entirely to knowing this man (and getting access to his wisdom).

He once went to Eastern Europe to serve as an economic advisor after the fall of the Soviet Union.

In Central America, he helped the Nicaraguan government bring medical care to the poor. They were so thankful that they made him their honorary consul to Europe.

Back here in the US, he once used his wealth to buy up and renovated an entire section of his hometown. The mayor honored him with a city ambassadorship.

The man at his mountain ranch
Yet, if you asked him he would downplay his own success and connections.

As Worth Magazine once described him in a profile:

"Meet Bill Bonner... a quiet and gentle man – idolized by staffers, liked and admired even by competitors... The sense of real begins with Bonner's earnestness... uncomfortable with the notion of success"

On April 12th this same man sent a book to the White House.

And it details an important change coming to your way of life...

One brought on by a type of financial event not seen in this country since before the Civil War.

This book is unlike anything you've seen before. Not only does it reveal some very uncomfortable truths about our economy like...
  • The true cause of things like racism, drug use, and violence in our inner cities (you've never heard it spoken like this anywhere)

  • How the Federal Reserve will begin to "nationalize" billions of financial and real assets like stocks and bonds (central banks in Japan are already doing this)

  • And many more...
It also contains unique ideas regular Americans can use to protect themselves from what's coming. Things like...
  • 11 gold and cash alternatives (and what to do if gold is confiscated like in 1933)

  • How to store money (no paper trail) in an anonymous dollar account (without using bitcoin or logging onto some website you can't trust.) These actually are available at some pharmacies.

  • The only legal way we know of to never pay taxes again to the federal government (it all depends on where you live)
You will find the facts within this report truly incredible. They are all true.

What's more, this entire book is now available for the general public to claim online at this address

Or simply CLICK HERE for the full story now.

Fair warning: you may not be ready for what you're about to learn concerning the US economy... Washington... and a financial meltdown six times bigger than 2008...

Sincerely,

Will Bonner

What Washington's Talking About

Talent Vacuum

“We have seen White Houses engulfed by scandal before. But we have never seen a White House implode before it had the time to staff up. The Nixon, Reagan and Clinton White Houses had hired quality teams by the time their scandals came. They could continue to function, sort of, even when engulfed. The Trump administration, on the other hand, has hundreds of senior and midlevel positions to fill, and few people of quality or experience are going to want to take them. … That means even if the Trump presidency survives, it will be staffed by the sort of C- and D-List flora and fauna who will make more mistakes, commit more scandals and lead to more dysfunction.” [David Brooks, New York Times]

Roger Ailes, 1940-2017

“If Ronald Reagan was rightly called the Great Communicator, Roger Ailes, who died Thursday at age 77, has to be considered the greatest creator of communicators in the history of politics or television. Political professionals talk about the importance of ‘getting your message out.’ Ailes knew the message mattered, but he also knew the message wasn’t worth much unless you knew how to deliver it.” [Editorial, Wall Street Journal]

A Period of Consequences
By Mac Thornberry

Two characteristics define the security environment facing the United States in the 21st century. One is that we face a wider array of serious challenges than ever before. The second is that the pace of change is accelerating. This combination of many threats changing ever more rapidly tests our traditional notions of armed conflict, as well as the organizations and systems we have relied upon to defend the country for the last 70 years.

Today's Headlines

President Trump is heading overseas, but not without some parting shots. I’m Davan Maharaj, editor-in-chief of the Los Angeles Times. Here are some story lines I don’t want you to miss today.

TOP STORIES

A ‘Witch Hunt’? Well, There’s Toil and Trouble
Amid this week’s toil and trouble at the White House, President Trump was relatively quiet, even after a special counsel was appointed to investigate the Russia-related investigation. Not for long. “This is the single greatest witch hunt of a politician in American history!” he tweeted (though the representative from Salem, Mass., disagreed). True to Trump form, he turned to aggrieved hyperbole more than once, as observers debated whether it would hurt or help him — or maybe do some of both.

More From Washington
— “No, no, next question”: Trump says he didn’t urge former FBI Director James Comey to back down on investigating Michael Flynn.
— The No. 2 official at the Justice Department told senators that he knew Trump wanted to fire Comey before he wrote a letter criticizing him.
— Trump is leaning toward tapping Joe Lieberman to head the FBI and could announce his pick before he leaves for the Middle East today.

Trump’s Trip to the Birthplace of Islam
Much like a couple of previous presidents who were caught in a swirl of trouble at home, Trump is headed to the Middle East. It’s the initial leg of a trip that will take him out of the country for just over a week, a stretch of time that an official says a “homebody” like Trump wishes were shorter. First stop: Saudi Arabia, the birthplace of Islam, where Trump is expected to emphasize the war against terror and present a major new package of weaponry for sale. Here’s why the Saudis are hoping for a reset with Trump.

President Trump's first trip abroad

Insurers on Obamacare: Don’t Look at Us, Blame the White House
“Obamacare is collapsing, it’s dead, it’s gone,” Trump said during his news conference yesterday. “There is nothing to compare it to, because we don’t have healthcare in the country.” He and other GOP leaders say the marketplaces are failing on their own. But health insurers, which are planning big rate increases or pullouts, and state officials tell a different story: that the Trump administration is undermining the Affordable Healthcare Act by refusing to commit to steps to keep markets running. “We don’t know who is making decisions,” says one CEO.

Roger Ailes’ Legacy: You Decide
Roger Ailes worked as an advisor to GOP presidential candidates from Richard Nixon to Donald Trump — and built Fox News into a conservative juggernaut that brings in more than $1 billion a year in profits — but his legacy is far more complex. The cable channel he ran for 21 years, before he was fired last year amid a sexual harassment scandal, called itself “fair and balanced.” Yet, as TV critic Lorraine Ali writes, “an ideology that Ailes made the cornerstone of his network’s coverage: Us versus Them” has reshaped the media landscape. Ailes’ death at age 77 complicates several lawsuits and a federal investigation too.

The NFL Has a Big Rain Delay in Inglewood
If the waiting is the hardest part, NFL fans in L.A. have had two decades of hard times — and now, they’ll have to wait a little longer for a permanent home for the Rams and Chargers. This year’s heavy rains have set back the opening of the $2.6-billion stadium in Inglewood by nearly a year, to the start of the 2020 season. It’s the first part of a multiple-phase project on a site that is 3½ times the size of Disneyland.

You Won't Believe What Our Government Is Doing Now
Dear Reader,

Our elected officials just triggered an unstoppable economic crisis...

"A 50% stock market wipeout, a 40% real estate collapse, and a 300% rise in unemployment will strike … very soon."

That's not my prediction... that's the prediction of famed economist James Dale Davidson.

James is the lone economist who predicted the fall of the Soviet Union, the stock market crash of 2000 and 2008, as well as the real estate bubble that hit in 2006.

Because of his accurate predictions, James has been invited to shake the hands and counsel the likes of former presidents Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton, and he's been a confidant to some of the most influential people in the world, people like the Rockefellers, the Clintons, Boris Yeltsin and President Donald Trump, to name a few.

Now, I confess...

I dismissed James' claims at first.

But then he personally showed me the evidence...
  • 7 indisputable charts (the 5th one hits Baby Boomers hard)
  • The hidden story behind a $5 bill … and why it has been shackled
  • A prophetic warning woven into a forgotten manuscript from our Founding Fathers — they warned an economic "curse" would unfold if our elected officials committed this one crime (and unfortunately, this one crime was just executed).
After seeing the proof for myself, I couldn't deny the inevitable.

So I asked James if he could share his research with our readers.

He was hesitant at first.

As you will see, James isn't great on camera. He can be a bit rough and even crude.

But I reassured James that Americans are tired of the well-polished clowns that show up on CNBC, CNN and Bloomberg. I told him that we need to hear the truth from a real economist, an authentic person who deeply cares for his country.

Thankfully, James agreed to do the video, as long as we provided the information for free, and if he could show viewers the simple steps he and his family are taking to survive the looming collapse.

We agreed to show the video for free — for the first week.

So, we put all of his research together in a controversial video presentation that we released a few days ago.

If you have any money in stocks, own a home, or have a savings account, it's critical you watch it now while it is still free.

Simply click here to start your free video.

The end of an era:
Last-year 1921 Morgan Silver Dollars!
1921 Morgan Silver Dollars

In 1921, a single Morgan Silver Dollar in your pocket gave you real buying power -- over 12 times more than today's paper singles!

Just one Morgan was good for nearly four gallons of gasoline. And if you were really in the money, 325 of these hefty silver coins could put you behind the wheel of a brand new automobile!

    Coin Highlights
  • Struck in 26.73 grams of 90% pure silver
  • Extremely Fine (XF) condition
  • Struck at the Philadelphia Mint
    (no mint mark)
  • Each 96 years old
  • 38.1 mm diameter

But after a span of 43 years, 1921 would mark the end of the line for America's most famous and collected U.S. silver coin.

While they last, you can now own a last-year 1921 Morgan Silver Dollar in Extremely Fine (XF) condition -- struck 96 years ago at the Philadelphia Mint in 90% pure silver from Nevada's legendary Comstock Lode.

Morgan Silver Dollars from ANY year are coveted by collectors the world over. But in today's coin market, last-year issues of this quality can be hard to find.

Because even though Morgans were produced in massive quantities between 1878 and 1921, it's estimated that as few as 15% of ALL these hefty silver coins survive today -- since they were melted down by the millions whenever silver prices soared.

So don't miss this opportunity to complete your Morgan Silver Dollar collection with this historic last-year issue for only $29.95! Order yours now -- before they're only a memory!

And now, the special counsel takes charge. I’m Davan Maharaj, editor-in-chief of the Los Angeles Times. Here are some story lines I don’t want you to miss today.

TOP STORIES

Trump Gets a ‘Special’ Surprise
Thirty minutes. That’s how much of a heads-up Deputy Atty. Gen. Rod Rosenstein apparently gave the Trump administration before going public that he’d named former FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III to take over the investigation of Russia’s involvement in the election and possible collusion with President Trump’s associates. Democrats and Republicans hold Mueller in high regard, though some took his appointment as special counsel more enthusiastically than others. (As it turns out, this isn’t the first time Mueller and fired FBI Director James Comey have been at the center of some D.C. drama.) Meanwhile, Congress proceeds with its own inquiries, and Comey may testify next week. As Trump starts an eight-day overseas trip this weekend, he and his already-besieged team could have a lot more to worry about than meeting heads of state.

More From Washington
— Rosenstein heads to Capitol Hill today to brief the Senate
— The highlights: What you need to know about the newly appointed special counsel.
— Trump’s pick for a top Interior post has sued the department on behalf of powerful California water interests.
— Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke, known for his provocative social media presence, says he’s taken a job in the Department of Homeland Security
— In Montana, miles from Trump’s Russia crisis, there’s no clamor to impeach

100 Days, 40,000 Arrests
Trump’s plan to build a border wall has stalled, but his pledge to increase deportations has resulted in the arrests of more than 40,000 people since he signed an executive order in January. That’s a 38% jump over the same time frame last year. According to ICE, nearly 75% of those arrested this year are convicted criminals, but the data also show a significant rise in the number of noncriminals arrested. “There is no category of aliens off the table,” says ICE’s acting director.

Do They Make Crow-Flavored Yogurt?
When Greek yogurt manufacturer Chobani sued Alex Jones for defamation, the conspiracy theorist said he was “never backing down.” Yesterday, Jones retracted the inflammatory comments he made about refugees and the company in Twin Falls, Idaho, as part of an agreement to settle the suit.

They’re Republicans, but They’re Definitely Not the NRA
Charles and Mary Leigh Blek of Trabucco Canyon were at an Irvine town hall meeting that Rep. Mimi Waters refused to attend, but they aren’t your usual protesters. They’re moderate Republicans on a mission: gun control. “Our son was shot in 1994 by three 15-year-olds,” Mrs. Blek told columnist Steve Lopez. Matthew Blek was killed in an apparent robbery by teens who carried a cheap weapon known as aSaturday Night Special.

If the Chinese Theatre’s Walls Could Talk
In the beginning, it was Grauman’s Chinese. Today, it’s the TCL Chinese Theatre Imax. But this Hollywood landmark, by any other name, is just as classic. This week marks its 90th anniversary on Hollywood Boulevard, where celebrities have left impressions of their hands, feet and various other body parts in the cement of the Forecourt of the Stars. Here’s a look at the secrets it holds.

— Some L.A. residents are wondering who sent them a mailer shaming them for their voting records

— Police say three robbers held a woman at gunpoint and stole $1.5 million in jewelry from a Beverly Grove home belonging to rapper and producer A$AP Rocky.

HOLLYWOOD AND THE ARTS

— Film critic Justin Chang says Ridley Scott’s “Alien: Covenant” is asleek, suspenseful return to form

— Elisabeth Moss and Joseph Fiennes discuss their work together on “The Handmaid’s Tale” and the show’s scary relevance to today

— “Roseanne,” the family sitcom led by comic Roseanne Barr, ended in 1997 but is coming back for eight episodes in 2018

— Has the Palme d’Or, the Cannes Film Festival’s top prize, lost some of its sheen

— Rocker Chris Cornell, lead singer of Soundgarden and later Audioslave, has died at age 52.

CLASSIC HOLLYWOOD

“Murphy Brown” got off to a slow start when it premiered in 1988. Few could have predicted it would become a hit TV show, win 18 Emmys and ignite a national debate thanks to Vice President Dan Quayle’s disapproval of the lead character, a TV newswoman played by Candice Bergen, having a baby out of wedlock. The show ended on this date in 1998.

NATION-WORLD

SPORTS

OPINION

— Better late than never in appointing Mueller to investigate Trump. Now it’s Congress’ turn to step up.

— Mueller isn’t good enough. We need a special prosecutor who can’t be fired by the president.

— Sorry, Trump supporters. Unlike the president’s Russian adventures, the Seth Rich story is nothing but noise.

WHAT OUR EDITORS ARE READING

— Two sources say Michael Flynn told Trump’s transition team weeks before the inauguration that he was under federal investigation for secretly working as a paid lobbyist for Turkey. (New York Times)

— “There’s two people I think Putin pays: Rohrabacher and Trump,” House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy is heard saying on tape to fellow Republicans last year. A spokesman says it was a joke. (Washington Post)

— It turns out it’s pretty easy to hack into “the cyber” at Mar-a-Lago. (Gizmodo)

ONLY IN L.A.

If it looks like beef and it — ugh — bleeds like beef, is it beef? Not in the Impossible Burger being introduced today at Umami Burger. It is made entirely from plants, and the idea is to appeal not to vegetarians but to carnivores, with an ingredient that mimics the red juices that ooze out of a fresh-cooked beef burger.

Google Insider Convinced New Technology as Transformative as Discovery of Electricity

The biggest names in tech are racing to get in on this incredible tech breakthrough.

Here's what one Google insider had to say:

"Just as 100 years ago electricity transformed industry after industry now this [technology] will do the same..."

And just like with electricity...this opportunity is already producing fairy tale riches for some investors.

But...the good times are just getting started if you believe leading consulting firm, McKinsey and Company.

Because they are projecting a mind-boggling $19.9 trillion opportunity!

That's "trillion" with a "T"....to put it in perspective that's roughly the same size as the U.S. national debt.

So it's no surprise that all of the biggest names in tech from Google, Facebook, and Apple to Intel and IBM, are all sprinting to get their hands on this mountain of cash.

And today you can hear about this incredible technology.

I've packed the details into a free investor's report.

Simply click the button below to find out why everyone is so excited.

Click here to view your free report

And if you're listening to the talking heads in the financial media jabber on about all of the biggest and most obvious companies...you may be missing the real story of this incredible technology.

Because one company...more than 10 times smaller than Apple....has some of the sharpest minds in Silicon Valley buzzing with excitement.

Here's what legendary investor Marc Andreesen had to say,

"For fun, our firm has an internal game of what public companies we'd invest in if we were a hedge fund. We'd put all our money into [this company]."

When you click the button below, you'll be taken to your free report... where you'll find out what all the excitement is about.

The NRA Annual Meeting Was Kinda Chill, Except For All The Politics

When Task & Purpose headed out to the NRA's annual meeting in Atlanta last month, where President Donald Trump was speaking, we spent a few days walking the convention, trying to figure out the best way to tell the story here.

Maybe a "service" article: 5 Of The Coolest Things You Can Buy At The NRA Show. Our readers would like that, we think! Or a newsier bent, in which we'd say something about checking out the post-election vibe at a weekend party put on by a powerful Washington lobby that just achieved the biggest political victory of its more-than-century-long existence. We're pretty sure our readers would hate that. Talk about taking the fun out of guns!

But the truth is we watched both of those stories playing out at the same time. This isn't the local gun convention at the War Memorial Auditorium. Everything here is turned up to 11, especially the politics. If you're ready for tacticool, the latest in AR-15 uppers, and tracking where the NRA goes after helping Trump win, read on.

Exactly as St. Gaudens imagined it.

Saint-Gaudens' original Winged Liberty

America's most famous Saint finally gets her wings!
Saint-Gaudens' original Winged Liberty

Saint-Gaudens' original Winged Liberty design -- recreated in 99.9% pure silver!

When the president of the United States asks you for a favor, it's hard to say no.

And when that president just happens to be "The Bull Moose," Theodore Roosevelt, resistance is futile.

So, in January of 1905, when Teddy Roosevelt told Augustus Saint-Gaudens that he wanted the famous sculptor to redesign all of America's coins, the eminent artist knew that he could not decline the commission.

Even though Saint-Gaudens' studio was overflowing with works in progress -- and the revered sculptor was battling the cancer that would eventually kill him two years later -- he knew that Roosevelt would not relent in his fervent desire to transform America's coinage into masterpieces of beauty, artistry and patriotic symbolism.

In true Rough Rider style, Roosevelt's passion led him to exceed the limits of Presidential powers when it came to redesigning the coins. He began slyly referring to this collaboration with Saint-Gaudens as "my pet crime" and boldly pushed forward through the usual bureaucracy and red tape.

He was a man on a mission -- and Augustus Saint-Gaudens was a man running out of time.

A Secret Hidden in Plain Sight

Saint-Gaudens' original plasterAugustus Saint-Gaudens worked on his new U.S. coin designs in his studio and home in Cornish, New Hampshire, where for years, he attracted the best and brightest from the world of art, literature, politics, theatre and music.

As America's foremost sculptor of the time, Saint-Gaudens was the magnet: his work gave off an aura of warmth and creativity that drew people to him -- something that's still happening today!

Saint-Gaudens' estate is now a National Historic Site visited by tens of thousands every year -- showcasing a treasure trove of sketches, plaster models and documents pertaining to Roosevelt and Saint-Gaudens' collaboration.

And much of the focus is on the undisputed masterpiece of their efforts: the 1907 $20 Gold Double Eagle.

1907 Gold LibertyAmong coin collectors, the story of how this new $20 gold coin became a reality is legendary -- including how U.S. Mint officials of the time struggled mightily to execute the extremely challenging ultra high relief that Saint-Gaudens desired for his coin.

But there's a nearly forgotten "secret" that many visitors to the Saint-Gaudens museum are unaware of: Lady Liberty was supposed to have a feathered headdress...and WINGS!

Within the archive of Saint-Gaudens' studio, numerous sketches and a fully-sculpted plaster show how both Saint-Gaudens and Roosevelt originally envisioned how Lady Liberty should look.

She is shown confidently striding forward carrying both a torch and olive branch. On her head is the Indian headdress which Roosevelt had suggested in order to give her a distinctly American look. And the figure of Liberty is adorned with two magnificent angel wings.

Images of winged female figures appear in many of Augustus Saint-Gaudens' sculptures, drawings and monuments. In fact, just two years before he began the design of a Winged Liberty coin, he had unveiled a nearly identical winged figure leading General Sherman in a major gilded bronze monument in New York City -- a monument which remains a Manhattan landmark to this very day.

Ultimately, the feathered headdress and wings would be removed from Saint-Gaudens' design at the insistence of mint officials, who believed these details to be too intricate for the minting technology of the day.

A Masterpiece Reborn 109 Years Later

Recently, while exploring the archives within the Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site, we uncovered for ourselves the whole story of the Winged Liberty.

Inspired, we immediately began partnering with museum officials to see Augustus Saint-Gaudens' and Teddy Roosevelt's original artistic vision brought to full glory in pure silver.

As collectors ourselves, we were thrilled by the prospect of the original Winged Liberty design finally being struck in spectacular high relief -- making Saint-Gaudens' original vision a reality at last after 109 years!

"In this coin design we see the artist's mind at work.
It is a rare privilege to see his first idea realized."

Henry J. Duffy, Ph.D.
Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site

Just one major question remained: who could help prepare Augustus Saint-Gaudens' original plaster design for modern high relief striking?

There was really only one answer: 12th Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint, John Mercanti.

One Genius Helps Another

This was not the first time that John Mercanti was called upon to walk in the footsteps of Saint-Gaudens.

In 2009, when the U.S. Mint decided to strike an Ultra High Relief commemorative of the Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle, it was John Mercanti who was commissioned to adapt Saint-Gaudens' original sculpture for the higher pressure of modern coin minting presses.

It was one of the mint's best-selling coin issues in decades, and remains a beloved collector favorite. But now, by agreeing to adapt the plaster of the Winged Liberty design, John Mercanti was giving modern voice to Saint-Gaudens' original artistic genius.

After personally hand-sculpting the Winged Liberty design, Mercanti had this to say: "It is an honor to have been asked to replicate this magnificent Saint-Gaudens piece, and I hope I've captured the genius of his design."

Officially-Authorized by the National Park Foundation

1903 Sherman MonumentToday, GovMint.com is proud to unveil the 2016 Winged Liberty High Relief Silver Proofs. Struck in 99.9% fine silver, each stunning high relief proof has been officially authorized by the National Park Foundation in cooperation with the Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site.

This release represents the first time ever that Saint-Gaudens' original artistic vision for the 1907 Gold Double Eagle has been made available to collectors as officially authorized High Relief Silver proofs.

Lady Liberty Deserves Royal Treatment

The National Park Foundation and the Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site recognized that striking these proofs in pure silver would require a world-class mint--one that would be able to capture every nuance of Saint-Gaudens' masterpiece in stunning high relief.

Few mints in the world even attempt the striking of high reliefs. But with over 1,000 years of history and craftsmanship, Britain's Royal Mint was an inspired choice.

After receiving John Mercanti's hand-sculpted plasters for the Winged Liberty Proof, the artisans at The Royal Mint set about to bring the design alive in dramatic high relief on a One-Ounce Silver Proof.

Collectors will be thrilled to discover that the Winged Liberty Silver Proofs represent among the highest relief proofs of this kind ever struck by the Royal Mint.

Gun grabbers are FUMING over this leaked report

Fellow Patriot,

Ever since I’ve released my special report last year, gun grabbers have been threatening me with legal action.

This report was a gun grabber’s worst nightmare… and a gun lover’s WETDREAM:

· It showed how to make a professional AR-15 in your garage with tools you already have

· How to do it with ZERO paperwork and ZERO serial numbers (100% untraceable)

· It was 100% legal in 50 states

· It even showed one way you could have unlimited ammo if you wanted

As someone who has sworn to uphold the constitution and will fight for my 2ndAmendment Rights, I will continue showing this report to every patriot who asks me about it.

See for yourself what the gun grabbers have been foaming at the mouth about, while it’s still legal.

To your protection,

Frank Mitchell

Patriot, Father, Firearms Expert

P.S. Have you ever thought how it would feel to have a self-made gun that you could pass on to your sons and children for generations? See how easy it is to do just that

For Anyone but the President’s Eyes Only

You can support this president; you can even love him. But you can’t trust him.

What are we to make of last night’s Washington Poststory, reporting that President Trump told Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov and ambassador Sergey Kislyak highly classified information, including a city in the Islamic State’s territory where a U.S. intelligence partner detected a terrorist threat involving laptops?

Let’s go through the possibilities. A lot of Trump fans will insist this is all “fake news,” that the story is made up out of whole cloth, and that none of these “U.S. official” sources exist. If so, it’s a remarkable conspiracy, as the Wall Street JournalNew York TimesReutersCNN, and BuzzFeed all claim to have “U.S. officials” telling them the same thing.

Perhaps multiple U.S. officials are making up this story and calling up multiple reporters, telling them the same false tale. Again, this is a possibility, except we would assume that one or more reporters at those institutions would do some basic due diligence. Would this source be in a position to know? If the source is Irving Schmidlap, who works as a dishwasher at the White House Mess, would the reporters be more skeptical than if it was someone on the National Security Council?

Then there’s this detail:

After Trump’s meeting, senior White House officials took steps to contain the damage, placing calls to the CIA and the National Security Agency….

Thomas P. Bossert, assistant to the president for homeland security and counterterrorism, placed calls to the directors of the CIA and the NSA, the services most directly involved in the intelligence-sharing arrangement with the partner.

If this is all a made-up story to damage Trump, then some senior White House officials are really going the extra mile, making calls to U.S. intelligence agencies to perpetuate the hoax.

Wait, there’s more! “The Post is withholding most plot details, including the name of the city, at the urging of officials who warned that revealing them would jeopardize important intelligence capabilities.” If this is all a made-up story, why would U.S. officials urge the Post to withhold the name of the city?

Wait, there’s even more! This morning a phone call between President Trump and Jordan’s king Abdullah was added to the president’s schedule. Jordan’s got a heck of an intelligence service, and they’re a usually reliable U.S. ally. The Islamic State’s territory is just north of their country. How likely is it that this phone call is aimed to reassure that unidentified “U.S. ally” in the story?

Take a look at this detail:

“I get great intel. I have people brief me on great intel every day,” the president said, according to an official with knowledge of the exchange.

Does that sound… farfetched? Is anyone jumping up and saying, “Oh, come now, that doesn’t sound anything like the Donald Trump I know?” Doesn’t boasting about the quality of the intelligence he receives sound exactly like the sort of thing Trump would do?

A lot of Trump fans are pointing to National-Security Adviser H.R. McMaster’s statement, “At no time were any intelligence sources or methods discussed, and no military operations were disclosed that were not already known publicly.” But as you’ve no doubt heard argued since the story broke, the disclosure wasn’t really about “sources and methods.” The damaging disclosure was about that city, the location of the source — presumably a double agent or an ISIS turncoat — reporting to one of our allies. As the articles report, our ally didn’t give us permission to spread that information around, and this country was apparently already wary about sharing information with us. If this story is accurate, a few minutes of improvised boasting in the Oval Office just did serious damage to a relationship with a useful intelligence ally.

Keep in mind, last week Vice President Mike Pence, White House press secretary Sean Spicer, and the rest went out before the cameras and insisted that Ron Rosenstein’s memo was the driving force to fire FBI director James Comey… and then Trump told Lester Holt he was going to fire Comey “regardless of the recommendation.” Just last week, Trump declared on Twitter, “As a very active President with lots of things happening, it is not possible for my surrogates to stand at podium with perfect accuracy!” The president will insist his surrogates can’t be expected to get everything right, and then a few days later, insist that you trust denials from his surrogates. You can’t have it both ways.

This morning, President Trump offered two tweets on the subject: “As President I wanted to share with Russia (at an openly scheduled W.H. meeting) which I have the absolute right to do, facts pertaining.... ...to terrorism and airline flight safety. Humanitarian reasons, plus I want Russia to greatly step up their fight against ISIS & terrorism.”

Again, no one who understands the law can dispute Trump’s “right to do” this; the question is the judgment and value in doing so. And missing from Trump’s comment are the words, “I did not share any location of any source or any other sensitive intelligence from our allies.”

Brian Wilson, who’s kind enough to have me co-host on WMAL some mornings, concludes the consequences of the leak must be moot by now: “I’m guessing bomb making info was tightly held info within ISIS. Any suspected snitch within its ranks has already been dealt with.”

Meanwhile, a Vice contributor screams, “an allied informant is likely being tortured to death as we speak, thanks ONLY to Trump’s big mouth.”

We don’t know if either of those scenarios are true. (There’s a good chance we will never know.) There were media reports quoting “U.S. officials” expressing concerns about ISIS and al-Qaeda testing laptop bombs for use on airplanes at the end of March. Maybe those reports spurred ISIS to start an intense search for a mole in their ranks, maybe they didn’t. (You would presume ISIS is always looking to sniff out moles in their ranks.) ISIS controls about 23,000 square miles, as of the end of 2016 — plenty of cities, towns, and villages. It’s just asinine to tell anyone who doesn’t need to know which city is home to an ISIS mole or double agent.

The bottom line is that there is absolutely no benefit to the United States to be sharing this kind of information with the Russian government — and if it alienates a friendly government helping us fight ISIS, then it is extraordinarily damaging.

It does not help that so many Democrats insist that every administration misstep is justification for impeachment, the Twitter hashtag “#Lockhimup” (the president has absolute authority to declassify information, so no law was broken) or the insane everyone’s-a-Russian-agent conspiracy theories of the Louise Mensches of the world. But the insanity of lefties doesn’t get this White House off the hook. Unless the entire story is made up out of whole cloth, Donald Trump still doesn’t understand his responsibilities.

Contemplating Rick Scott’s Next Move

I recently had a chance to chat with Florida governor Rick Scott, and got the feeling that whether or not he decides to challenge Senator Bill Nelson next year, he doesn’t think much of Nelson as a senator.

Scott says he hasn’t decided on a Senate bid, and isn’t in any particular rush to make a decision. But a few weeks ago at the National Rifle Association’s convention in Atlanta, Scott addressed the attendees and offered a surprisingly explicit argument for replacing Nelson.

“I believe it’s crucial that we increase the Republican majority in the U.S. Senate,” Scott told the NRA crowd, after praising Trump’s decision to nominate Neil Gorsuch. “Look at the votes on this Supreme Court nominee, and you can see there are a number of senators who did not represent their states. These senators need to be retired. Unfortunately, one of my state’s senators, Bill Nelson, has veered far to the left.”

Asked about why he called out Nelson before a politically active crowd, Scott insists he wasn’t hinting at a 2018 Senate bid. “You look at Neil Gorsuch, how could you vote against the guy?” Scott said during a recent visit to Washington. “[Nelson’s] the senator from Florida, and that’s why it was relevant to talk about him.”

It’s clear Scott feels no particular warmth toward Nelson, as he explains why he doesn’t talk to his state’s senior senator. “What you learn in this job, I’ll give you a story. My hometown is in Collier County. I know who to call in Collier County to get things done.” The governor is too careful and even-keeled a politician to really come out and say it explicitly; his version of a smack down is a pause so pregnant it might as well be having triplets. But the implication is clear: Scott doesn’t talk to Senator Nelson because he doesn’t think his state’s Democratic senator is a guy who can get things done. With a little twist of the knife, Scott says, “I talk to Marco [Rubio] quite a bit.”

ADDENDA: Hillary’s back at it again, raising money for her new political action committee, “Onward Together.” If she jumps in the presidential race again, I suspect Trump will form his own:

What Washington's Talking About

The Lesson from the Russian Leak Story

“The Russian leak story reveals one other thing, the dangerousness of a hollow man. Our institutions depend on people who have enough engraved character traits to fulfill their assigned duties. But there is perpetually less to Trump than it appears. When we analyze a president’s utterances we tend to assume that there is some substantive process behind the words, that it’s part of some strategic intent. But Trump’s statements don’t necessarily come from anywhere, lead anywhere or have a permanent reality beyond his wish to be liked at any given instant. We’ve got this perverse situation in which the vast analytic powers of the entire world are being spent trying to understand a guy whose thoughts are often just six fireflies beeping randomly in a jar.” [David Brooks, New York Times]

The White House is facing another Russia-related crisis. I’m Davan Maharaj, editor-in-chief of the Los Angeles Times. Here are some story lines I don’t want you to miss today.

TOP STORIES

Loose Lips Can Sink Intel Relationships
What happened when Russian officials visited President Trump in the Oval Office the day after he fired FBI Director James Comey? The Washington Post reported that Trump shared highly classified intelligence — about Islamic State threats involving laptops aboard airliners — that was provided to the U.S. from an ally on condition that it not be shared. Though the White House issued carefully worded denials, the reaction among members of Congress was swift. “The White House has got to do something soon to bring itself under control and in order,” said Republican Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee. “Obviously they’re in a downward spiral right now.” Other responses from senators: “terrifying,” “reckless” and “deeply disturbing.”

Oval Office meeting

More From Washington
— The Trump administration accused Syria’s government of hanging hundreds of political opponents and other prisoners and burning their bodies at a military prison near Damascus.
— A panel of three judges in the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, all Democratic appointees, listened to arguments on Trump’s revised travel ban.
— Deputy Atty. Gen. Rod Rosenstein will brief all members of the Senate on Thursday about Trump’s firing of Comey.

International Hack Like a Pirate Day
An international manhunt is underway to find out who is behind the WannaCry virus that has infected computers around the globe. Could it lead to a North Korean connection? Investigators say they detected code similar to that used by a shadowy cybercrime network implicated in the 2014 hack of Sony Pictures. For now, the good news is that the ransomware infection seems to have slowed. But just when it seemed safe to go back into the online water, get this: Hackers, apparently unrelated to WannaCry, claim to have Disney’s new “Pirates of the Caribbean” and want a lot of Bitcoin in return. Meanwhile, lawyers are no doubt looking for someone to sue over WannaCry — but whom?

The Bumpy Road to a Driverless Future
Speaking of lawsuits … ride-hailing giant Uber is locked in a legal fight with Google’s autonomous car project, called Waymo, over driverless car research. At stake could be eventual dominance over a market that looks to be worth billions and billions of dollars. Can’t they all just share the road?

China Has a Plan to Change the World, but That Name … Uh
“Belt and Road Initiative” doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue, and it can take some time to grasp the idea that “belt” refers to a band of countries along the ancient Silk Road and “road” is actually a shipping route. But China is presenting this massive project to build ports, railways and pipelines from Asia to Europe as nothing short of a new world economic order. And it’s using a summit of world leaders and some unlikely online videos (“Belt and Road bedtime stories”) to sell the idea.

Hollywood Loses an Old-School Mogul
Brad Grey sold belt buckles when he was in high school; he’d use those skills years later pitching HBO on a show called “The Sopranos,” which helped usher in the so-called golden age of television. Now Hollywood is mourning the death of 59-year-old Grey, who until just three months ago was leading Paramount Pictures through some tumultuous times. Here’s a look back at a tenacious figure who enjoyed a conspicuous A-list lifestyle.

FDA Warns Acid-Blockers Are Only Safe for 2 Weeks
PLUS: What to do now to soothe your symptomsAND fix the underlying problem
If you suffer from heartburn or acid reflux, here's important news:

New research shows that your problems may be caused by two hidden triggers that the "solutions" most doctors recommend fail to address

You see, most heartburn remedies only treat your symptoms. They donothing to address the underlying cause of acid reflux.

It's like getting a shot of Novocain for a tooth cavity. It can blunt the pain for a while, but if the cavity isn't treated, the pain comes right back as soon as the Novocain wears off.

It's the same with acid reflux. If you don't fix what's causing the problems, your symptoms will keep coming back

And while you would never consider getting a daily shot of Novocain to ease your dental discomfort, Americans will fill over 170 million prescriptions for acid blockers this year?[1]—taking them day after day.

But what you may not know is that the most popular of these acid-blocking medications, proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), carry an FDA warning that they should not be used for more than 14 consecutive days or more than 42 total days over the course of a year.?[2]

Yet doctors and patients frequently ignore this warning, risking severe consequences to ease the discomfort.

I'm Joshua Corn, Editor-in-Chief of Live in the Now, one of the fastest-growing natural health publications in the nation. My passion for natural health has always driven me to educate people on alternative solutions that are both safe and effective.

Please keep reading because today I'm going to show you how to quickly and safely relieve your heartburn and reflux issues by combatting the true causes that, unfortunately, too many doctors overlook.

About Joshua Corn
The Shocking Dangers of Acid-Blocking PPIs
The primary purpose of most heartburn remedies is to block stomach acid in the digestive tract, often by inhibiting proton pump cells from producing this acid. And they usually do this quite effectively.

But stomach acid is essential for the proper absorption of vital nutrients to maintain overall health. Low levels of stomach acid and the use of PPIs have been linked to:
  • Immune system impairment due to an altered gut environment?[3]
  • Low levels of the essential nutrients vitamin B12, calcium, iron and magnesium?[4,5,6]
  • Increased risk of serious cardiovascular issues?[7]
  • Increased risk of serious kidney and renal issues?[8]
  • Negative effects on cognitive function and brain health?[9,10]
THE SHOCKING DANGERS OF ACID BLOCKERS
Hidden Heartburn Trigger #1:
Your Acid Level Isn't Too High, It's Too LOW!
For years we've been told that high levels of stomach acid are what causes heartburn. It makes sense, since acid refluxing from the upper stomach into the esophagus is what causes our symptoms, right?

Well, there's just one problem with this commonly held theory: It's not true!

And, as I just mentioned, blocking stomach acid can trigger all sorts of damaging health issues.

FACT: Stomach acid is absolutely VITAL for our digestion and our health. Stomach acid helps us break down and absorb the foods we eat. Without adequate acid levels, foods aren't digested properly, which creates the gas and bloating that can cause acid to reflux up into the esophagus.

FACT: As we get older, acid levels fall, BUT heartburn increases. When we're younger, we produce almost 200 milligrams of stomach acid every hour. But as we get older, we produce less and less. In his book, Why Stomach Acid Is Good for You, Jonathan V. Wright, M.D., reveals what he's found in 24 years of treating patients with acid reflux and other symptoms...
"When we carefully test people over age 40 who're having heartburn, indigestion and gas, over 90 percent of the time we find inadequate acid production by the stomach."
–Dr. Jonathan V. Wright
FACT: Low stomach acid creates the perfect environment for bugs and bacteria. Your digestive system and your esophagus are home to many forms of bacteria. But your stomach is sterile. Reason: Bugs and bacteria ingested from foods are quickly seized upon and destroyed by stomach acid. But when acid levels fall, bugs and bacteria can invade the stomach, causing digestive problems and other health issues.

FACT: If high acid levels were the cause, then acid reflux would be a young person's affliction. We produce more acid in our 20s than in our 40s. If high acid were the cause, it would be confined to people in their teens and 20s. But it's not. Today, more than 20 million Americans over the age of 40 spend more than $14 billion every year on acid-blocking medications.?[11]

I'll never understand why traditional medicine's popular "solutions" ignore every single one of these facts. And in a minute, I'll show you how to safely and effectively get healthy, balanced acid levels. But right now, let me tell you about the second hidden cause behind reflux and heartburn...

Inflammatory Fires in Your Digestive Tract
As a health conscious person, you are probably familiar with inflammation. At its best, inflammation is simply your body's healthy and natural response to injury or infection. But the problem with inflammation arises when it stays elevated for prolonged periods of time. When that happens, it can wreak havoc on your health—especially in your digestive system.

Throughout your stomach and esophagus—and indeed your entire digestive tract—lives a protective layer of mucus. This mucus acts like a shield between your stomach lining and stomach acid. But in many people with acid reflux, this protective mucus has been drastically compromised.

As this protective mucus lining becomes eroded through prolonged inflammation, gas, tiny food particles and acid are pushed farther up in the stomach into the diaphragm and ultimately reflux up into the esophagus. Once there, you get burning acid in your throat, heartburn, indigestion and misery.

The fact is, PPIs simply don't address the low stomach acid levels and inflammation that are so often at the root of acid reflux. But here's the good news you've been waiting for...

Combatting Heartburn and Acid Reflux with 3 Proven Natural Solutions
You don't have to rely on the frequently recommended "solutions" to get relief from the discomfort that makes you miserable and keeps you up at night.

Research has shown that three natural ingredients have remarkable effectiveness in relieving heartburn and acid reflux, while helping soothe inflammation in the mucosal lining of the stomach and gastrointestinal tract. The results are fast, the benefits long lasting, and most important, you'll experience no side effects whatsoever!

Acid Relief Solution #1
DGL: The Licorice Soother
You might be familiar with licorice as a sweet flavoring agent, but licorice also has a long history of use as a soother of digestive discomfort associated with heartburn and acid reflux. And there's a special preparation of licorice called deglycyrrhizinated licorice, or DGL for short, that is extremely effective at this.

Multiple scientific studies have shown that DGL has the ability to restore the integrity of the esophageal, stomach and intestinal lining by increasing the secretion of protective mucus that lines the gastrointestinal tract. This lining is a key component of the stomach's defense against the erosive properties of acid.

One double-blind study compared the benefits of DGL to the conventional approach and found that it was equally effective at reducing the uncomfortable symptoms when evaluated at both 6 and 12 weeks of use.?[12]

More importantly, other clinical trials have demonstrated the benefits of DGL for supporting the integrity of the stomach lining.?[13]

In addition, research on a specific form of DGL, called GutGuard®, has shown it can also help with functional dyspepsia, or discomfort in the upper belly or abdomen occurring during or right after eating.?[14]

The bottom line: DGL can help boost the mucosal lining of the stomach, thereby reducing damage, preventing inflammation and curbing symptoms. That's why I recommend DGL to anyone with reflux, heartburn or other symptoms of indigestion.

Acid Relief Solution #2:
Soothing Aloe Vera
Aloe vera was dubbed the "plant of immortality" by the ancient Egyptians. This soothing gel contains powerful anti-inflammatory compounds that have been used for decades to relieve the stinging from sunburn and other burns. And when it comes to reflux and heartburn, aloe vera offers many terrific benefits.
  • It helps combat the inflammatory fires in your stomach that can lead to pain, bloating, burning and reflux.

  • It helps stimulate better digestion, and the better you're able to digest the foods you eat, the less gas, bloating, reflux and heartburn you get.
In one study, researchers found that aloe improved intestinal motility, thereby speeding up bowel emptying. At the end of the study, participants reported less bloating after meals and reduced flatulence.[15]

In another double-blind, placebo-controlled study, researchers tested aloe for its inflammatory response in the intestines. The result: Clinical researchers found that patients who took aloe for 4 weeks hadmeasurable improvements in inflammatory factors with no side effects.?[16]

Please note: The aloe plant can have some unwanted laxative effects, so it is extremely important to find an aloe product that has the latex portion removed to avoid this issue. ACTIValoe® is one such brand that I recommend.

Acid Relief Solution #3
The Healing Power of Slippery Elm
Slippery elm is an herb famous for its soothing properties. As the name implies, extracts of the bark of the slippery elm tree are often "slippery" producing copious amounts of compounds called polysaccharides.

These compounds are very similar in nature to the makeup of the mucus in your stomach and can augment your body's own mucus production, helping to protect the lining of the esophagus, stomach and intestines.?[17]

The polysaccharides found in slippery elm can help promote a healthy inflammatory response in the stomach and intestines, making it a valuable ally for promoting healthy overall digestion in addition to helping with acid problems.?[18]

My Personal Solution for
Heartburn and Acid Indigestion
I encourage you to try one or more of the natural solutions I've described above. Many of my readers have reported best results when taking all three of these natural remedies. But in my research, I couldn't find them together anywhere.

That's when I set out to make an effective all-in-one solution that is convenient and affordable so everyone could get the relief they deserve.

In addition to my work with Live in the Now, I run Stop Aging Now, a company that has been proudly making premium-grade supplements for over 20 years.

Working with my Scientific Advisory Board, I developed AcidRelief360™ to provide a safe, effective, fast-acting, affordable and 100% natural solution for relieving heartburn and acid reflux.

AcidRelief360 is a breakthrough formula that is the first to combine DGL, aloe vera and slippery elm with two additional herbal digestive soothers, lemon balm and German chamomile, to provide powerful relief.

Simply take one small, easy-to-swallow pill after your morning and evening meals. And since it's priced as low as $12.45 per bottle, virtually anyone can take advantage of its amazing benefits.

Image
I invite you to shop around and do your own research, but I'm convinced you'll find no better acid relief product out there at such an affordable price. Here's what makes AcidRelief360 superior:
  • 75 mg of GutGuard® DGL: Deglycyrrhizinated licorice (DGL) helps to restore the integrity of the esophageal, stomach and intestinal lining by increasing the secretion of protective mucus. Research suggests GutGuard® DGL can also help with functional dyspepsia (discomfort in the upper belly or abdomen occurring during or right after eating).

  • 50 mg of ACTIValoe® Aloe Vera: Aloe vera has been considered one of the top natural digestive products for years. ACTIValoe® is made using a patented process that removes the laxative properties of aloe and provides the polysaccharides you need to help soothe your digestive tract.

  • 200 mg of Slippery Elm Bark: Slippery elm is an herb famous for its soothing properties. As the name implies, extracts of slippery elm are often slippery due to the high content of plant polysaccharides. These polysaccharides can help to soothe irritated internal tissue along the gastrointestinal tract.

  • 50 mg of Lemon Balm: Traditionally used as far back as the Middle Ages, lemon balm is considered a calming herb that eases tension, as well as the discomfort of indigestion, including gas, nausea and bloating. In addition, lemon balm has the ability to relax smooth muscle, which means that it can help to relieve spasms of the digestive tract.?[19]

  • 150 mg of German Chamomile: Chamomile has been used as a natural digestive soother and mild herbal sedative for thousands of years, dating back to the ancient Egyptians, Romans and Greeks. The flowers of the chamomile plant contain compounds called mucilages, which have a soothing effect on the lining of the esophagus and other mucus membranes.?[20]

  • Non-Habit Forming and Side Effect-Free: Unlike acid-blockers, the ingredients in AcidRelief360 do not cause rebound symptoms or any other side effects. And it doesn't interfere with any other medication.

  • Quality You Can Trust: AcidRelief360 is guaranteed to be safe and effective. It's made in Stop Aging Now's own FDA-inspected facility located in Florida to meet or exceed the stringent USP standards for quality, purity, potency and disintegration.

  • Try It Risk Free: AcidRelief360 comes with an "any reason" 365-day guarantee. That's right, you have a year to try it out, and return it for a full refund if it doesn't work for you.

  • Convenient and Affordable: Hate to take pills? No worries—AcidRelief360 requires only one small capsule twice per day. And through this special offer it's now available for as low as $12.45 per bottle. Plus it ships to you for free!

What Washington's Talking About

The Kushners and EB-5

“The Kushner family has been caught in a shameless act of name-dropping. It has been highlighting its White House connections to entice wealthy Chinese investors and promising them green cards in return under a special government visa program. That’s pretty bad. But it’s also a scandal that Congress allows real estate developers to use the American immigration system to pad their profits. … Mr. Trump made restricting immigration, including for refugees fleeing violence, a central plank of his campaign. Yet, he seems O.K. with letting real estate moguls take advantage of a program that sells green cards. In this administration, the interests of the first family and its rich and powerful friends come first.” [Editorial, New York Times]

Thoughtful Debate

“The political left might consider itself more open-minded than the right. But research shows that liberals are just as prejudiced against conservatives as conservatives are against liberals.” [Matthew Hutson, Politico]

A philosophy professor provoked harsh backlash when she asked “why society is increasingly willing to embrace people who identify as ‘transgender,’ even as it rejects those who identify as ‘transracial.’ Why laud Caitlyn Jenner while vilifying Rachel Dolezal?” [Jillian Kay Melchior, Wall Street Journal]

“Along with virtually every other American, I never knew Johnny Carson’s politics. I would not have been surprised if he was a liberal or surprised if he was a conservative, a Democrat, or a Republican. In his 30 years as host of The Tonight Show on NBC, he never so much as hinted as to how he identified politically. He poked fun at whoever was in power, Republican or Democrat. … One could list a hundred ways America was indeed great — without ever ignoring serious moral flaws. Now one can list a hundred ways in which America has lost that greatness. The descent from Johnny Carson to Stephen Colbert is just one example. But it is a powerful one.” [Dennis Prager, National Review]

Michael Flynn’s potential legal troubles are growing. I’m Davan Maharaj, editor-in-chief of the Los Angeles Times. Here are some story lines I don’t want you to miss today.

TOP STORIES

The Early Warnings to Trump About Flynn
The warnings were there, according to former government officials: In November, President Obama cautioned Donald Trump against picking Michael Flynn as national security advisor. In January, acting Atty. Gen. Sally Yates told White House lawyers that Flynn “could be blackmailed” by Moscow, may have violated criminal statutes and had misled Vice President Pence about his dealings with Russian officials. But the rest, as they say, is history. After the testimony of Yates and former Director of National Security James Clapper before the Senate on Monday, Trump responded with a tweet storm — and an update of his Twitter banner to drive home the point: “Director Clapper reiterated what everybody, including the fake media already knows — there is ‘no evidence’ of collusion w/ Russia and Trump.”

The Travel Ban Gets Its Day in Court (Again)
During her testimony, Yates also defended her decision not to defend Trump’s travel ban, getting into a particularly pointed exchange with Sen. Ted Cruz. Meanwhile, judges in the U.S. 4th Circuit Court of Appeals heard arguments over Trump’s revised executive order. For them, it comes down to whether the order is based on national security or religious discrimination. Again, Trump’s own campaign language came back to haunt the discussion.

More Politics
— The Trump administration will not reappoint half the expert membersof a board that advises the Environmental Protection Agency on the integrity of its science.
— More and more former political operatives are choosing Silicon Valley over K Street and Wall Street as their destination of choice.

Video: Ted Cruz Never Slammed Those ‘Houston Values’
Deep in the heart of Texas, Houston has become a city of cowboys and Indians and Ethiopians and immigrants from all points in between. By one measure, it has become the most racially and ethnically diverse major metropolis in the country, surpassing New York in 2010. Doesn’t fit the Texas stereotype, does it? Now, with Texas’ governor having signed a bill to punish so-called sanctuary cities, Houston could be on the front lines in the immigration battle.

UC’s Students of Color Won’t Be Denied
The University of California is running into some difficult tests. The system’s topmost echelon faces questions about its accounting and credibility, and Berkeley has found itself in the center of a free speech free-for-all. At the same time, discontent among many UC students of color has been growing. Several incidents have led them to believe that administrators and some fellow students slight them, and in recent days they have scored a big student body electoral victory at UCLA and housing concessions at UC Santa Cruz.

The plane is called the Spirit of St. Louis, but it was built in San Diego. At a dirt airfield called Dutch Flats, Charles Lindbergh would fly the wood, cloth and metal machine for the first time on April 28, 1927 — three weeks before making the first nonstop solo flight across the Atlantic Ocean. Harry Bishop, chief photographer for the San Diego Union and Evening Tribune, documented that test, but many of his images apparently went unseen for decades. See the photos here and discover how they were lost and found.
