Plus, we've never all gotten together in person for no purpose other than to play, connect and celebrate.   (Before I go on, yes — we have done in-person company retreats before. Those have been lovely. But a team vacation with no agenda other than fun is very different than a work retreat filled with back-to-back meetings.)   Well, two weeks ago we made that Slack dream a reality.   We took 22 of the most talented, warm-hearted humans to Mexico for a few days of appreciation, relaxation and — naturally — dance parties. Here's me en route to our resort, wasting zero time slipping into margarita mode.        Later that night, I welcomed everyone to what would become an unforgettable company vacation.     On the last evening, we closed our adventure with group photos on the beach. At one point, people started fumbling around in their bags, putting on these crazy pink headbands and surprised me with... a Flash Mob!   I had no idea what the hell was going on. I was so moved I started crying.   Turns out, all the choreography was from one of the fitness DVDs I created years ago called Dance Yourself Thin. Once I realized that I knew those moves, I couldn't help but join in.     One of the most touching parts of this whole experience was seeing how quickly members of the team, many of whom had never met before, bonded with one another.   There were gab-fests in each other's rooms till 3 am, midnight swims and endless belly laughs at every meal. Having hours and hours to talk about our work, our families and our dreams was a gift I'll treasure forever.   Of the many lessons I took away from our trip, what keeps ringing in my heart, is this:   We are nothing without one another.   There is simply no goal, no win, no amount of money or success that can top quality time with people you love and admire. Most importantly, no level of achievement matters unless you have others to share it with.     So hold those you love close. Make time to hear their stories, understand their dreams and let them know how much they mean to you.     At times, modern life can feel impossibly full.   Everyone's (understandably) trying to get ahead. With the non-stop hustle, it's easy to slip into a false narrative that says that everything you do has to be "productive" or, in a business sense, have some sort of "ROI" attached to it. But that's just narrow-minded.   Taking care of our relationships and each other is the most important work we can do in this world.
