I'm thinking about putting together a monthly discussion series as
part of laser night. Right now I've got Jon Santiago from South Bronx
Fab Lab and NYCR and Josh Roxas who will be operating a 5000 watt
laser that can cut through steel.

Does this sound like something that would be interesting to you? Any
suggestions on people to ask to talk? Any recommendations on format?

It sounds interesting but the issue is that there is very little interest in
NYC about the subject. I was hired to teach a class at the New School and
the class was cancelled due to lack of interest. Now a days is so easy to
laser that is consider almost a printer.

I am actually considering selling mine and getting out of the business.

I'd be interested in hearing from Jon and Josh. Would it be a First
Mondays kind of thing?

I would be interested in hearing what they have to say.  I am especially interested in lasering that can be used in DIY/Make type projects involving arduinos and leds, side lighting techniques that sort of thing.  I like the idea of personalizing clothes and electronics with the laser and I like the idea of making steam punk type badassery with a more powerful metal cutting laser.  I think that a working example or show and tell format would work, similar to a cooking show on tv.

Well I hope it happens. I have been renting time on my machine for some really cool projects: lots of clothing, some very cool sculptures made from cardboard and others. But nothing in electronics.

I would be very interested as well!! I really want to start doing stuff, but feel I need some inspiration! I'm very interested in the idea of using all types of recycled materials and fabric for cutting.

Would love to hear all of them, especially Fab Lab - since I work w/ a sustainability nonprofit in Brooklyn and would love to know what they've been up w/ Sustainable South Bronx!

Cheers!

For inspiration check out the make market http://makersmarket.com/products/steampunk-cufflinks-prong-set-watch-movements-7 make magazine online orhttp://www.instructables.com/.  Seen so much cool stuff there that time is the hardest thing to make.
