hi all,
venessa here. adam black suggested i join the group and let you know
about the upcoming Contact Summit in nyc (though i recognize a bunch
of names on the member list here already). adam & keywifi are
providing us wireless service for Contact.
i'm working with author/media theorist Douglas Rushkoff to put on an
event that, most broadly, is about bringing together the communities
who are using the social web for what it was designed for (sharing,
learning, growing), and putting a stake in the ground and announcing
that this is the future.
we have some amazing people / projects / companies coming so far
(check out participants page
http://contactcon.com/participants &
projects page
http://contactcon.com/projects). everything from people
building tech infrastructures for p2p exchange, mesh networks,
censorship circumvention stuff, to gov 2.0 folks, future of money,
social enterprises, open collaboration, sharing communities, and so
on.
in addition to a morning of brief 'provocations' from a few speakers,
we'll have an entire afternoon of ad-hoc participant-driven discussion
sessions (unconference style), and then a 2 hour Bazaar, where people/
companies can demo their projects/products. anyone demoing can also
enter their thing into our Innovation Awards, which will provide 3
projects $10K each to help accelerate their initiatives.
hope to see you there, and let me know if you have any questions!
