NYCoCoCo-

Please join us for lunch with Shareable Mag's new Community Builder, Millicent Johnson. She's eager to interact with you and in NY next week! Please check out her thoughts below.

Details:
Date/Time: Tuesday July, 5 at 1pm
Location: Pain Quotidien:
Broadway and East 11th
http://www.lepainquotidien.us/#/en_US/locations/new_york/downtown/greenwich_village_broadway_n_11th

Also, I've changed the settings from the default to all members can invite people. Apologies if you tried to invite someone and it didn't work. Please let me know if you have any other listserv related requests.

Look forward to putting some faces to all of these bright ideas I've been tracking. Careful with the fireworks this weekend...

Thanks,
Matt

From Milicent:

Really looking forward to meeting y'all and whomever else wants to be a part of the lunch

I'd love this lunch to be focused on what people are working on and the ways in which Shareable Magazine might be able to help/promote that work - and if you'd like to, it'd be a fun opportunity for people to discuss how to build a community in NYC. (Find out who stakeholders are, what cool initiatives are happening, etc.). As you suggested, you could post it as a lunch with a writer from shareable magazine. If you'd like to turn it into an event around those topics, go for it.

And I'll also keen on east coast/west coast connections. Happy to make them.

How does that sound?

-M

Adam (/All)-

Thanks for getting the ball rolling. I prefer "c" but with some nycoco on top where "square" is.

Here are some text suggestions:
  • Mission: To make NYC a central hub in the collaborative community world. The center of worldwide collaboration can only be in America's birth place of cool- NY. The densest place with small apartments and a burgeoning crew of entrepreneurs are pulling out of the station- come help us steer this train.
  • What is a collaborative consumption community: (anybody have a good quote from Roo's book?) If you can get a cheeseburger or sushi at 1am, why can't you borrow a drill, find a couch to sleep on, or get your idea funded? We've got 8 million neighbors, isn't it time we get to know them?
  • How can I get involved: (make this three different boxes) "I'm an entrepreneur (email box)" or "I'd like to be added to the listserv (email box)" or "I've got a question- lets you submit a form"
  • What we're working on: upcoming meetings, active discussions, events, projects etc.
  • Partners/Resources: links to books, company logos, etc

iteration D coming up... feedback from all welcome- can't hurt my
feelings this is a group effort just to get a format and some content
down to which we will pass on to a graphic and true UX designer

-what do folks think about "shared squared"? too corny? @matt you dont
love it? we can start a separate thread for names branding and other
marketing ideas

I'm with matt

Also have some links

To collaborative consumption to meshing it etc etc
Maybe to some press and wired
Magazine did a great article called "dot socialism" or something like that

Maybe link whole thong to a wordpress. Blog engine

So we can all start contributing

Maybe even set up an about us page bio on founders of NyCoCoCo

And maybe an FAQ in due course as we get questions asked ?

What is p2p
What's the difference between sharing and borrowing
Where can I find local sharing organizations
Etc etc

Hey All.

I was invited by Adam Black to get involved and so far I've been on lurk but my area of focus is branding and visual communications so I can also help a little to develop the outward facing identity if there's an agreed upon need for that.

its a good start

maybe make the logo look like 2 people exchanginging or sharing something
also
NY share squared is a better name than NYcococo
in my opinion.
some ideas for tag lines...

when people share they can do a lot for each other
when communities share there's nothing they can't do.

keep going

maybe a silhouette logo of NYork and some more images of folks!

I concur: NY Share Squared is much easier to write and more pleasing to the eye. My eyes trip over NYcococo a bit.

Typically I think one-liner tag lines are the way to go. Often less is More. A couple more suggestions to play off of Mr. Black:

NY Share Squared
When communities share great things happen

NY Share Squared
When communities share it means more

NY Share Squared
Community consumption means more

NY Share Squared
Community collective greatness

I don't want to be greedy:) - i got 99% of the name I like..  but the obsessive compulsive anal retentive part of me (it's a very small part) likes Shared Squared with the extra D for the symmetry (then they both SHARE more letters - also makes for some cooler design opportunities if both words start with S and end with D)

Shared Squared
Communities getting together.

(like actually getting together but also getting stuff, internet, rides, skills, etc together)

The English Major in me (close cousin to the obsessive-compulsive, retentive wing of the family) worries a bit about the past-tense, passive voice of "shared." It's a backwards-looking verb instead of a call to action. I hear a big difference between "share" and "shared."

I have to say that I agree with Adam here.  The design possibilities are quite clever and memorable with the extra ed on share.  not to mention it rolls off the tongue even better than share squared.

The tags don't hit me like thunder yet.

The Community getting Communities together.

or

NY Shared 2

The 2 should be super-script but I cant do that!

The Share Square

implies a public space for sharing also!

silly real but what we should be called is:

Market Share

?
but someone got there first!

I have to same I'm a fan of the present tense of Share Square

But what I DO like about Shared Squared is it differentiates from the name Four Square, which I wonder if people would confuse -but maybe that's not likely?

Hey all...

here's a thought that's been formulating in my head for the past few days.  This is in sketch form so by no means the final treatment but the idea I had was to allow the primary visual identity to take on the characteristics of the group's base purpose.  What any good logo should do is tell a quick story about who you are in an interesting way.

This could be squared shared OR square shared...it works either way.  The mark takes the two words and they physically share the same elements to create both words in a space where they work together to depict an economical shared use of their forms.  It can be read as one word...but it can also be easily read as two by simply making smart choices about tone and form in its presentation.

I realized like last night that I'm moving offices this weekend so I can spend a lot more time with this after that happens but this idea sticks with me because the arrival at it came from imagining the identity through the eye's of the basic ethic of the endeavor and presenting that identity in the form of those word plays you used to see as kids where they'd make phrases out of cleverly arranged words but you had to read them literally.  anybody remember those?  loved those things.

Cheers,
Cristian.

I like Cristian's ideas.

I think the shareable;e logo tries to do something like this ??

just to be more complicated, we  Tom & I, had lunch with Pritha today , please introduce yourself Pritha,
she suggested CO (to the per of 3)
or Shared  (to the per of 3) cubed (expressing the 2 that are sharing and then the multiplicity of the very sharing process. )

I'm sure you design strategy and communications geniuses will work this out and end up with a suitable and agreeable logo and name for this little project.

Thanks

its great but we need to identify it as New York Shared Squared and
may I humbly suggest we have a tag line?

sure.   like i said...this is way early.  just the basic idea.  and adding the ny aspect to it would be painless.  As for taglines, they can be very effective so I'm all for them.  However, a mark should be able to exist with or without a tagline effectively.  There are situations where a tagline augments the logo...and there are others where it simply creates more noise so I propose a visual system that is flexible to incorporate both instances.  There are also instances where the tagline can carry itself without the logo, or even the company/organization name.

just logo
just tagline
