My New York City client near Penn Station is a leading travel deals
and destination advice publishing firm (online and print). They are
seeking a full-time, on-site, salaried Front-End Developer to join
their technology team in the $60,000 to $80,000 range + benefits.

You will join an exciting, growth company. The developer's role in the
firm is a critical one. You will play an integral part in helping to
develop new products, improve existing ones, and contribute to the
firm's efforts to revolutionize the way in which consumer's research,
plan, and book travel. You will provide critical creative input to all
that we publish and new tools that we launch.

Qualifications:
* A penchant for clean, simplistic user-interface design
* Expert knowledge of cross-browser compliant css and JavaScript
* Strong familiarity with JavaScript frameworks such as jQuery and
Prototype
* Basic understanding of PHP
* Keen understanding of page load optimization techniques
* Highly organized, with the ability to multi-task across a number of
technology initiatives
* Able to assist in usability testing, design ideation, wire-framing,
and design execution
* Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential

Compensation/Benefits:
* Compensation is competitive; depends on experience
* 3 weeks vacation (rises to 4 after 5 years); 401 K; Medical

Maybe I don't understand the NYC scene, but it's 60k really low pay for a "critical" role in a growing company?

Job postings are fine, as long as they are relevant and not spam.

I had to remove a few posting from Beau J Gould a few weeks ago that were not very JavaScript relevant.

Depends on equity and the developer's willingness to take risk. If they've shipped and have customers and just need a bit of time before they can pay market wages, I'd say 1-5% equity is fair. If they haven't yet shipped, anywhere from 5-50% is, depending on how much is left to do.
