Press Pass NYC Student Journalism Fellowship Fall Semester Applications are now open, and we’re excited to offer students from New York City public schools with student news publications the opportunity to participate and collaborate with other passionate student journalists throughout the city.

PPNYC's Fall Journalism Fellowship is a five-month series that includes virtual community-building sessions with NYC student journalists, workshops with professional journalists, and monthly in-person journalism and editing workshops. 

The Fall series will focus on in-depth student reporting on a group-selected broad topic. Journalists will be able to conduct interviews, determine feature angles, and work in teams or individually on a common topic to provide a robust series for publication on the Press Pass NYC showcase website. Journalists may also decide to bring parts of their story to their school publication for a closer look at the topic. Journalists will receive support from professional journalists and have Zoom meet-ups to guide them through publication.  

Students will receive a $250 stipend upon successful completion of the Fall program.

We invite all students who meet the following criteria to apply:

* Currently a student in a New York City public high school

* Currently work on their school newspaper or have media experience

* Can commit to full participation in in-person Saturday sessions on the following dates in midtown Manhattan (Sept 27, Oct 25, Nov 15, Dec 13, Jan 24) and Zoom meetings at least once a month.  

* Aspire to put the skills they learn to use in the service of their student newspaper and to pass their knowledge on to other students at their school

* Are comfortable expressing themselves, both in writing and speech, and are interested in meeting new people and having awesome new experiences

* Have permission from their guardian

* Have not participated in a PPNYC Fellowship program previously.

We will inform students of our decision by Friday, September 19th.

Please know that another five-month Fellowship session will be offered again in the spring, so if this fall session doesn't work for you, rest assured that new applications will open at the end of the semester.
