UNDERSTANDING HOW SCHOOLS ARE FUNDED
Tuesday, February 3, 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

For student journalists who want to know why some schools have fewer resources than others. Understanding is the key to seeking change.

Ever wonder why some schools have brand new equipment while others are using the same old computers and labs? This is your chance to get answers from three experts who know how our NYC schools are funded:

  • Dr. Jose Vilson is a former NYC public school teacher, executive, and director of EduColor, an organization dedicated to building, supporting, and amplifying communities of educators of color. He understands the history of school funding in NYC and the nation, and currently works as a postdoctoral research associate at Bank Street College of Education and an adjunct associate professor at Teachers College, Columbia University.

  • Community Engagement Specialist Hannah Leverenz of the Independent Budget Office and her colleague, education researcher Julia Konrad, can answer your more specific questions. Their job is to follow the money!
