Please share with your students.

The Hechinger Report is looking for a 700-900-word op/ed from a teen about college affordability and costs as part of a series it is running on the topic. Maybe there are students who had to forgo their top choices because they were too expensive, or who have strong feelings about the costs of higher ed and what they face? debt, etc. They are looking for a unique opinion or a perspective. This piece will be as much about your personal experiences as it will highlight a national issue.

From its guidelines: "The Hechinger Report covers inequality and innovation in education with in-depth journalism that draws on research, data and stories from classrooms and campuses to show the public how education can be improved and why it matters. In our opinion pages, we seek to publish voices that can add to the discussion about how to approach — and solve — the biggest problems in education. In particular, we look to amplify voices that are not always heard in conversations about education.

"We will consider all Op-Ed submissions that are under 900 words and written in jargon-free, colloquial language. Op-Eds must stand alone and make a compelling argument focused on ideas and policies. All Op-Eds undergo a rigorous editing process."

I'm helping the editor out by doing a couple of rounds of early edits on pieces so please file any drafts to me at katina...@gmail.com
