Bharata Natyam: A Comparison of Two Styles

with Kamala Cesar, in the style of T. Balasaraswati
and Sonali Skandan & Jiva Dance, Kalakshetra style
An exploration of Bharata Natyam, one of the major traditional Indian dance forms (particularly practiced in the state of Tamil Nadu), through performances in two related styles of the medium. Representing the artistic legacy of T. Balasaraswati is Kamala Cesar and representing the Kalakshetra style is Sonali Skandan. Dancers from both styles will be accompanied by musicians led by noted Carnatic vocalist Shobana Raghavan.
