Hi guys,

Geoff suggested I write to the group to tell about the new group I
have formed, for those hockey players lucky (unlucky?) enough to not
have normal day jobs. Free-lancers, students, and people who for
whatever reason may be free during the day--please join so we can co-
ordinate.

I am a total novice at running a Group, so any suggestions will be
appreciated.

Riverbank has Tuesday open hockey ice from 11:00-12:30, for $10.
Almost nobody comes, and it's not much fun to have only one or two
people on the ice. So I propose a communications network to help us
decide to make the trip. A few weeks ago there were four of us having
a great time, including Andrew Serota, a GOALIE. He lives right near
me (West 94th Street) and I can often drive him (and possibly others)
to and form the rink. But I know there are other players out there,
and if we can make a regular game with 8 or 10 players--how cool would
that be?

Also, there's Lasker, for stick & puck. It's always a bit iffy, even
if you call beforehand (917-492-3857). Weather, ice maintenance, and
private ice rentals can close the east rink (the west rink is for
public sessions). But it has worked for me and my regular friends
about 75% of the time. Coaches are very nice there, and if they are
using half the ice they are OK with us using the other half. For the
regular admission ($4.50) you can skate from 10 AM until the school
teams come for practice, which is around 3 PM (earlier on Friday).
Helmet is required (though not always enforced).

But the main thing is communication, so please join the MorningHockey
group and let's see if it will work.

My regular email is pe...@peterschaaf.com if you just want me, not the
group, and my phone number is 212-222-2935.

Thanks,

Peter
