Subject: [softwaredev-157] This Scala spinoff group is going to be better than Angel
Hello New York Scala Enthusiasts,
Have you heard about
Functional Alcoholics of New York, our new Meetup group for cross-language functional programming peace, harmony, and refreshment? We're getting together with hipster Clojure programmers, bookish Haskell hackers, veteran Lispers, and Redmond-looking F# enthusiasts to overthrow the imperative programming establishment. DON'T TELL YOUR BOSS.
To get things started I'm scheduling these immediately after our NYSE Meetups, like
this one just after our maxed-out Meeetup next Monday. (If you didn't RSVP in time, you can still come to the Functional Alcoholics afterparty and be jealous.) But also and more importantly, we're going to hold get-togethers scattered around the city (i.e. not just downtown Manhattan), and members can just show up whenever they feel like it. Our first Meetup is at
good old Von this Thursday. It's going to be small—it's December you guys!—but if you want to see a Scala app running on my DROID, this is your (first) big chance.
I encourage you to
join the group now even if you are maxed out for the month, so you'll hear about the awesome Meetups we'll have next year. Some of these will probably be convenient to your workplace or home, so you can just pop in for a tipple and talk about combinators. How cool is that?
Nathan
