Hi,
My name is Ben. I've lived in the city for 3 years. Right now I work a pretty standard 8-5 in Lower Manhattan. I'm looking to start a collective living space because the most comfortable "roommate" experience I ever had was on a kibbutz in southern Israel. The place managed to be both very social and very quiet. They all seemed to take into account how awkward living with so many other people can be, rather than competing for space, as so many roommates do.
I chose Crown Heights/PLG because I'm familiar with the area, it's a nice area, it's near where I work, and apartments are big there.
I don't really have a specific theme in mind for the place, but I do have a few ideas in mind:
- Take care of financial dealings and cleanup assignments via shared documents and email (takes a lot of the potential conflict out of it)
- Have one night a week where we eat together, but allow it to change every week
- Musician-friendly, with regular negotiations about which hours are ok for practicing and which are not.
- Tolerant of "strange" diets, whether it's vegan, primal, low-carb, gluten-free, etc. I don't want a place where everyone's on the same diet, but I do want an environment with a general respect for others' dietary needs/wants.
- Interest in holding parties/events at the apartment/house (but not making it into a venue)
- OK with a TV in the common room, but no cable.
- I'd like to find a big house, but even if it's just 3 or 4 people in a regular apartment, I figure this would still be superior to the usual NYC apartment.
If you're interested, send me an email. We'll talk and I'll also send you a link to my facebook profile so you can perform a "background check" on me.
