Hello all!

We have a small bedroom available in our large seven-bedroom shared house in Park Slope, Brooklyn. The room is available October 1. We would prefer a female-identified housemate (to maintain a sense of gender balance; you would be joining two women and four men), but anyone is welcome to apply. We are looking for someone who doesn't smoke (indoors) or have pets, and is at least 25-years-old. POC/LGBTQ+ folks encouraged to apply!

There are seven of us who rent the house. In addition to you, new housemates, we are a diverse bunch of humans who range in age from 29 to 54. Professionally, we are three high school teachers, an actor/musician, an architect, and a software engineer. We buy food as a group at the Park Slope Food Coop and we share in household responsibilities. Sometimes we cook meals together. We often hang out in the kitchen in the evening over a glass of wine or a cup of tea. We love living in the house, and we're confident you will too.

Our house is a beautiful 19th-century brownstone, with much of the original detail work intact. We are in the heart of Park Slope, near the Park Slope Food Coop and commercial amenities on 7th and on 5th Avenues. The house has lots of common space--a well-equipped large kitchen, a living room, a large parlor, two full bathrooms, one partial bathroom, and a garden in the back. We have a washer and dryer, cable TV, a subscription to the New York Times, and internet access. The house is near major subway lines. The 2/3 and B/Q trains are a couple blocks away, and all of Atlantic Terminal is just a few blocks further.

The room is a cozy 6.5' by 13' with a small closet. It's on the 4th floor and has a nice view facing west, away from the street. The room will come mainly unfurnished, though it can include the lofted bed frame (for a full-sized mattress) that helps make the space very livable. It is ideal for someone who doesn't have a lot of stuff. Rent is $745 per month, which includes all utilities, including internet access. The amazing deal we get on this house comes from a decades-old arrangement with the landlord which requires us to take care of certain elements of maintenance that landlords would normally deal with; accordingly, the ideal prospective housemate would be interested in helping small repair and fix-up projects as they come up -- this space is what we make it!

If you are interested, we are having an open house the evening of Wednesday, September 4, from 6:30 p.m to 8:30 p.m. This will be the only time we will be available to show the room. The room is available October 1. For details on the open house (or if you have questions), please send me a message with your favorite thing to cook or eat so we know you actually read the post and aren't a robot (after extensive discussion we decided to only consider human applicants 😉).

Looking forward to meeting you!
