We're looking for a new housemate to join our collective house in Park Slope for July 1!

$875/month for a 6X16 room through January 31st, 2019, with a possible lease renewal. If you're interested, please fill out this form and we will get in touch with you!

THE HOUSE

We live in the top three floors of a beautiful brownstone in North Park Slope, just off the northeast corner of Prospect Park. Our home has 6 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms (there’s a random living room shower. It’s the best shower). We share a fully furnished kitchen, dining room, and living room (over 1,000 square ft of common space). Dishwasher and washer/dryer. *Unfortunately, no cats due to allergies.* Closest subways (~5 min) are Grand Army Plaza 2/3 and 7th Ave B/Q. Close to Prospect Park, Brooklyn Central Library, Park Slope Food Coop, and lots of restaurants and cafes. Short walk to the Brooklyn Museum and Brooklyn Botanic Gardens (we have a membership!).

COSTS

Rent is $875/month. Heat, water, and gas included; electricity and internet are additional and split between us. We spend about $30/week per person for food, covering 5 weeknight dinners and some lunches.

ABOUT THE COMMUNITY

We share values of communication, responsibility, respect, creativity, collective labor, collaboration, direct democracy, social and political consciousness, resilience, safer space, playfulness, and inclusion.

Logistically, we share tasks like cooking, grocery shopping and cleaning. Our rotating cooking schedule means there’s vegetarian dinner five nights a week, and we eat together during house

meeting once a week. We think of our space as an asset to share with the wider community, and to this end, we host events and gatherings like workshops, potlucks, and the occasional theme party.

We strive to create a community that embraces our own diversity of backgrounds and experiences, recognizes that being a human is complicated, examines how power and privilege intersect, and challenges oppression (including but not limited to: racism, homophobia, transphobia, classism, ageism, ableism). We recognize and grapple with the ways that access to housing reinforces class-based marginalization.

ABOUT THE ROOM

A 6X16 room with a closet and one large north facing window that offer lots of natural light and a sense of openness. Cozy but not cramped. Will fit a queen-size bed, large chair, and bookshelf or dresser.

ABOUT US

Currently we are a mix of LGBTQ and LGBTQ-friendly people, and our house is made up of white, Asian and Latinx folks. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds and especially encourage people of color to apply.

A: Reluctant New York transplant hailing from the great Pacific Northwest. Works in journalism and enjoys both sitting very still and moving as much as possible, preferably outside and/or to music. Always has room for more popcorn.

C: Alaskan midwife who spends her time catching babies, studying human anatomy, and getting lost in the park. Current missions: scoping the city for a community garden to grow veggies; investigating the route of her next bike adventure.

E: Nonprofit attorney and Iowa native. Currently fighting to defend the housing rights of some of the city's most vulnerable residents. Loves drag, live music, wine, and open spaces. Equally happy out exploring the city as staying in with good friends and conversation.

S: Corporate social responsibility (CSR) nerd by day, diver & gymnast by night. Soup fiend. Curator of obscure and delightful animal facts.

A: Aspiring functional human. Migrant justice organizer and generally angsty brown woman. Enjoys attending free lectures in the city and eating tres leches in Sunset Park. Is likely having an existential crisis as you read this.

J: Really terrible at describing himself in third person. From Los Angeles with family roots in Honduras/Ireland, likes to make noise with words and instruments, works to connect legal advocacy and migrant justice organizing. Professional pup cuddler.

ABOUT YOU: You’re passionate about something, invested in building a community, share our values and have a sense of humor. You’re respectful, considerate and self-aware, excited to participate in house activities and have the bandwidth to commit to them.
