The room:
Brightly lit large room (11.5’X16’) with bay windows, double door closet, ceiling fan, and hardwood floors. The floorplan currently fits a california king bed, two bookcases, a large dresser, desk, and reading chair!
The apartment:
First floor apartment in a three unit brownstone, with large open kitchen / living room, roof access, private back yard, bonus finished basement room, and basement storage space. There is a washer dryer in unit and 1.5 bathrooms. The old building has nice thick walls, so we rarely hear neighbors or each other. 12-month lease was resigned on 07/01- the landlord has not increased rent over the 4 years we have been in the apartment. No history of bedbugs or other pests.
The apartment has 2.5 bedrooms: two on the ground level, 1 large at the front (available for rent) and 1 medium bedroom at the back (occupied) on the first floor. Stairs descend to a smaller basement bedroom (8.5’x11’), which has electricity but no heat - with a space heater it can be nice and cozy in the winter; perfect for guests, a studio space, or a reduced rent room. The previous tenants were using it as a bedroom, and we've had it as a guest room for a number of years. I would prefer to find a person or couple to rent the main space upstairs and equally share this basement space for guests, but I am also open to having a reduced rent basement tennant and main bedroom roommate for the right folx.
Access note: Building has 9 steps up from sidewalk, 7 to backyard, and 11 to basement room.
Rent*:
I’m looking to fill the space with two people with a combined rent of $1,800. This includes all utilities besides internet, which averages an additional ~$25 per person per month. This could be a couple in the large upstairs room at $900 each, or split with the large upstairs and smaller downstairs rooms at $1200 and $600, respectively. I would require first month’s rent and security to move in. If one person is comfortable covering the rent themselves, that would be great too. Please don’t be shy to inquire!
Location/transportation:
The apartment is in Crown Heights, one avenue from the 3 train at Nostrand, .5 miles from the Franklin Ave 2,3,4,5, and a 15 minute walk or 10 minute bus ride from the Nostrand Ave A/C station. Roommates have worked in various parts of Manhattan, and been able to reach most anywhere (including Midtown west and Spanish Harlem) in roughly an hour. Apartment is directly on the B44 bus line, and two blocks from the B44 Select line on Rogers Ave, which can get you up to North Brooklyn in less than 30 minutes.
Dates:
Looking for an October 1st move in date, and there may be some flexibility to move in sooner - please inquire if you have questions.
About me:
I’m a queer, small fat, light-skinned transculturally adopted person of color with origins in Santiago, Chile, was raised in the US Northeast, and have been living in Brooklyn for the past 10 years. I’m a critical adoption scholar, activist, and organizer. I work full time from home (due to covid) and usually in my room.
I enjoy a combination of hanging out together in communal spaces and spending solo time in my room. I love movie nights, game hangs, bike rides, cooking together… And also still very much thrive chilling on my own, since I’m an introvert at heart. I practice intuitive eating. I mostly keep vegetarian foods in the house but sometimes also eat meat/fish. 420 friendly - smoking preferred in the backyard, roof, or with open windows. I’m an animal lover, but am sadly allergic to cats and some dogs, so may not be able to welcome roommates with some four-legged companions.
