To: <european-youth-...@googlegroups.com>

Be part of the movement for climate justice. Join Young Friends of the Earth Europe in Brussels between the 26th November- 12th December 2010. Please forward widely!

This is your last chance to join fellow youth activists from all around Europe, as we gather in Brussels in parallel to the UN Climate talks in Cancún, to take part in a programme of activities including workshops & skill shares; open space for discussions and networking; following the negotiations and politics in Cancún; and running actions and media work, demanding climate justice.

There is still the chance for you to get involved! We have lots of information on what to expect and how to participate in the event, plus travel and accomodation support is available for those wanting to come to the event who otherwise would not be able to. Keep reading to find out more, or read it all online

You can join all or part of the Youth Convergence for Climate Justice, taking place in Brussels between 26th November- 12th December.

For a one minute motivation of why you should come, watch this short movie!

Thanks!

1. The purpose of the convergence

The event is being organised by Young Friends of the Earth Europe and a team of volunteers and Belgian based activists, to bring together and build the European youth movement for climate justice, in reaction to the UN negotiations taking place.

It will be an opportunity to share and develop an understanding of what climate justice is and means, build links between activists across Europe and the world to take these demands further, and build a voice and reaction against the UN Climate talks without travelling to Cancún itself.

Our call for climate justice goes far beyond the scope of the official UN summit! Independent of the results in Cancún could achieve, there is a need to build our own capacities in order to build a strong and diverse climate justice movement based on real solutions, coming from real people and from the bottom up.  This is reflected in the programme and topics that will be explored there- which you will find out more about in detail below.

2. The Programme

From Friday 26th November- Sunday 28th November, we will take part in the European People's Assembly, also taking place in Brussels.
From Monday 29th November until 12th December we are hosting the Youth Climate Justice Convergence- a space and a daily programme for the duration of the two week UN Climate talks in Cancún.

You are welcome to join for all or just part of these activities! However- letting us know when you will come helps us enormously at the logistical level- please contact femke.m...@foeeurope.org with your information.

Friday 26th- Sunday 29th November
Please aim to join us at 2pm on Friday 26th November, at the ‘Mundo B’ building in Brussels (details below). Here we’ll give an introduction to the two week convergence and our participation in the Assembly, and it’s also the perfect chance to meet others who will be taking part in the Climate Justice Convergence! From there we will join the activities of the Assembly which start at 6pm (with a critical mass bike ride action- see more details about the agenda and venue on their website

Join us at 2pm on 26th November at:
Mundo B Building
Edimburgstraat 26
1050 Brussel
Near Metro Porte de Namur (lines 2; 6)

Monday 29thNov- 12th December
Starting from Monday 29th November, a two week long programme with a range of activities will take place at our convergence space. These include workshops and skill shares for discussions, learning and planning on topics under climate justice, with each day introducing and tackling a different theme, as well as the online following of negotiations & daily political briefings as events unfold in Cancún, and creating actions and our own media in reaction to this.

We have a very first outline of the draft programme that you can view here, which in a few days time will be updated in much more detail and you will get this very soon
(don't worry!)

Topics to expect on the programme, range from the consequence of climate change for people and planet in both the global north and south, movement building, opposing false solutions (such as nuclear energy, agrofuels, offsetting and many other examples of corporate green- and brainwash), the historical responsibility for climate change, etc.

Additionally- much of the programme will develop as the event takes place with YOUR input and wants! Until then, we hope this gives you an impression of what each day will look like, and you trust us to bring you some nice surprises when the next version is made public!

3. Practical details
i). Venue and facilities: What and Where?
We are confirming a large space in Brussels where all activities will take place from 29th Nov- 12th December. As soon as this is confirmed, we will make public the address and map.

At least one hot, vegetarian meal each day, of which the costs will be covered by a small donation by participants will hopefully be provided.

On Saturday 27th- Sunday 28th the venue of the Assembly will be in the city centre of Brussels- see their website and join us at Mundo B on the 26th at 2pm for directions.

ii). Where to sleep?
Unfortunately, we are unable to organise or cover the costs of individual people's accommodation. However- a group of Brussels based activists are currently working on arranging a 'couch-surfing' hosting service between local people and participants who come from outside of Belgium.
To register your interest in the couch surfing please email them immediately at: coach.b...@gmail.com

Additionally, If you are coming for a longer period for the event, submit your information on the online registration form and we will ensure you have accomodation for your participation in the event.

iii). Travel and costs
For those of you wanting to stay for at least a week and need financial support to come from afar (within Europe only), we can confirm that there is a small amount of funding available to ensure your participation.

If you intend to stay for most of the event (at least a week) and are travelling within Europe travelling within Europe, there is a travel subsidy of 50%, to a maximum amount of 75 Euro, per person. However there is a limited amount available. This will be allocated on a first come first served basis and to those people who are most in need of support, in particular travelling long distances and who could otherwise not be able to attend the event.

To make a request for this funding, please contact sophie...@foeeurope.org with details of your travel and participation in the event, as soon as possible. You must make a request before 26th November, andhave  filled out the online registration form.

That’s it for the time being... We are very much looking forward to having you join us in Brussels, and making this exciting event happen!
