Any clue to when any of the newer/newest cars (R-143/R-160) series will
show up on the E, F, G lines?

And more importantly, when are they getting rid of the dang
bucket seats on the 3's?

Probably not any time soon for the E and F. There are 60 (12 trains)
R-160A-2 cars due later that will provide all service on the G. I'm not
aware of any being delivered yet. Of course being assigned to Jamaica,
they could show up on the E or F.

The balance of the R160's will run in eight car trains on the J, L, M,
and Z. This will make ENY 100% modern cars. The 75' cars (R-44-46-68)
cannot operate on those lines due to clearance and perhaps weight
restrictions. The Coney Island (10 car trains) group are on the N and
W, supplemented by R-68's.

There is a new contract being worked on, R-179, that will have enough
cars to replace the remaining R-32 to R-42 fleets.

The R-62's are under 30 years old. I think the TA is trying to get most
cars to run for 35 to 45 years, so not any time soon.

Maybe they could just move them to some line I don't use very much?

Is there a clamoring for the preference to stand rather than sit -- even in
the middle of the night on the G train?

Be careful what you wish for.

Cheers,

I'm just curious, because some of the current mainstay equipment, R-32s,
are being slowly but surely headed for the scrap heap (or reefing).

Just take a look at recent pictures at www.nycsubway.org. R-32s (and the
R-40 slants, which were used a lot when new on the E and F) are the
usual culprits.
