And here's another schedule. But the dates are wrong:

I guess it's from last year (same schedule times as above).

So now we know the times (but not which day this is happening) in 2007
and 2008. Does hanco... know something about 2009 that he's not
telling us?
I found out that the train was inspected and ready to go Thursday
evening, then wasn't home all day Friday to follow up. As in the past
it starts the first trip at second ave at 10:00am. It's 90 minutes for
the round trip.
Here's my page with the schedule:

Thanks again for posting this information, it's very useful.
Has anyone ridden the historic train (or buses) this year?
Other than a press reelase, AFAIK the MTA hasn't issued any other
publicity. Last year I think they flagged it specially on the main
webpage. That seems strange.
I'm not sure how much of the museum fleet operation is voluntary, if any.
Do they need to bring in old retired guys to do it, or can the regular
crew of that run handle it?
>Has anyone ridden the historic train (or buses) this year?
I did, on the 6th. It wasn't planned, I just happened upon it while
waiting at Broadway-Lafayette. There was a PA announcement that the
next train on the local track would be the holiday museum train going
to 2nd Ave. I got to ride it for one stop - it was the last run of
the day so I couldn't take it back uptown.

If anyone is interested, the Shoreline Trolley Museum, in East Haven,
Conn is setting up their training classes to qualify to run the trolleys
for the public. Membership is $40 a year and you get to work the
trolleys and give tours of the car barns (about 20 cars are on display).
What if they have not run trains in a while? Do they have to do a
refresher on the trains and on the route itself?
New York City Transit's Nostalgia Shoppers' Special will not operate
this Sunday due to the cold weather operating plan in place in the
subway system. However, weather permitting, the vintage train is
scheduled to return to service next Sunday, December 27th.

I believe a newspaper report said the motorman and main conductor were
regular staff; I doubt a carrier these days would permit a volunteer
to operate a revenue train over its network. Volunteers might work as
auxillary crew to keep an eye on things and assist passengers; the
trains had a large crew on them. Volunteers might help in the shops
with restoration.

Thanks for the update, much appreciated!
