So the Indians get their hair fixed and eat at fine restaurants on her
pocket...Sweet!
What's the problem here? That she does this on the company dime? Or
that the services are found in India? Or that these things can be
done remotely, and in India even with the marginal cost of
telecommunications the services are competitive in the marketplace?
When I travelled for a corporation, I was always able to expense
meals, entertainment, and personal care. If a trip ran longer than
two weeks, I was even allowed to purchase *clothes* and expense
them. Once I bought a suit from Gary's in Newport Beach. The idea
is that a business traveller incurs far higher maintenance costs when
travelling, because he or she is always staying in hotels, eating in
restaurants, and the costs associated with very basic things are
inflated. Staying at home, the employee doesn't have to buy
toothpaste every few days and then discard it. Wear and tear on a
suit is something that my company was willing to compensate for. My
last year in that job, I had a $20,000 travel budget. That was near
the midrange in my company. Some people approached 100G just in
annual airfare and lodging, but they travelled constantly, all over
the world.
I changed careers, and accepted less than a third of my previous
salary, just to get *out* of that world.
