Change takes people power

New York City Public Charter Schools provide free public education opportunities to over 114,000 students across all five boroughs. They operate in high-need neighborhoods, where families have limited public school options-- over 76% of Public Charter School families are economically disadvantaged. Charter Schools are free, independently run public schools that are able to innovate in their classroom structures, curriculum, and teaching methods. In return, they’re held to higher standards of accountability. Between 2015-16 and 2016-17, NYC charter students made the largest gains in both math and english language arts across the state. 47,800 students remain on wait lists for space in New York City Public Charter Schools.

Community Education Organizers will build community awareness of Public Charter School opportunities at the grassroots level through a combination of person-to-person contact and grass tops outreach. Organizers will use a combination of methods to spread the word about education options for young students in their given neighborhood. Successful Organizers will be dynamic individuals demonstrating a range of professional skills and an excitement and passion for change.
