Italian places to eat on Manhattan

A couple of my housemates are running the NY marathon later this year and a
collection of friends and relatives are coming along to cheer them on. After
it is all over we're planning on going out for a meal - there will be
something like 25 of us in total and we were wondering where to go for a
decent genuine Italian meal. We were thinking of something in the region of
$45 a head - excluding drinks and tips. Can anyone suggest a really good
place to try? I'm sure I could look up a place in the Rough Guide or Lonley
Planet, but there is nothing better than a recommendation from you guys. The
only other criteria is that ideally it be realtively easy to reach by public
transport - if it's near a subway station so much the better.

Rowan, any relation to Jeremy?ehe There's a good reason why your query
has gone unanswered. 1) it's a no-brainer of a question 2) it's been
answered a million and one times before in this forum 3) you'll find a
"marathon" of I-talian food in a city that is home to Little Italy and
the San Gennaro Feast. Every inch of NYC (cuisine capital of the world:
home to 17,312+ restaurants - that's 1 a day for 47 years!eh) has miles
of food to explore from hundreds of nations. In NYC - you walk, you

upon your appetite..i´ll meet you anytime you want..in our Italian
Restaurant..do you remember those days hanging out at the Village

Sorry I didn't see this sooner. You really can't go wrong with
Lupa. It's excellent pan-Italian fare in a very casual atmosphere.
It's one of Mario Batali's restaurants, and he has always taken great
care to have places that bear his stamp adhere to a very high

They only take reservations for large parties. Everything is
reachable by public transport in NYC - no worries there.
