💪🏾🗽 New Yorkers, we came into office promising a safer, more affordable city, and we’re continuing to deliver for you and your loved ones. With safer streets, a record amount of affordable housing, and so much more, we definitely "Got Stuff Done" for 8.5 million New Yorkers and continue to do so every day! Here’s a look at what we did this week.

Good afternoon New Yorkers,

Since day one, we’ve been focused on delivering for our city’s working-class families. From building more affordable neighborhoods to helping them learn lifelong skills, our team has made sure every child and parent has a chance to succeed in the five boroughs. Here’s how we delivered for you this past week:

  • A historic day for housing – The City Council greenlit our OneLIC Neighborhood Plan to create nearly 15,000 NEW homes, over 14,000 NEW jobs, and a revamped waterfront in this bustling Queens neighborhood. With this historic vote, all five of our administration’s neighborhood plans AND our landmark “City of Yes” initiative has been passed. When you put all of our work together, we have created, preserved, or planned an incredible 433,000 homes for New Yorkers.
  • Teaching students the value of a dollar – School is where our kids develop lifelong skills, and we believe every student should know how to save, spend, and invest their money wisely. Our Financial Literacy for Youth — or FLY — program is bringing affordable, in-school banking to 15 schools for students and their families. We’re also bringing financial educators to every school, so no young person misses these crucial life lessons.
  • Fostering strong pathways for our youth – We’re expanding and launching several programs through the Administration for Children’s Services that support young people in the foster care system and provide more ladders to success in adulthood. These programs offer those in the foster system one-on-one mentoring, financial support to pay for college, and help finding and vocational training and careers.

↳ Three things to know this week:

  1. NYC Ferry announced updated routes starting December 8, including their first ever service between Staten Island and Brooklyn. The changes also include a new one-seat ride from South Brooklyn to Midtown and plans for two new ferry stops.
  2. Signing up for a test could save a life: Registration is now open for the qualifying test to become a NYC Parks Lifeguard. Sign up today and take the first step toward a rewarding summer job at our public pools and beaches while gaining valuable skills that will last a lifetime.
  3. We’ve seen the first flurries of the season, so make sure you can stay warm this winter. The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) provides financial assistance to keep your heat on.

↳ A look back:

Before you go, did you know…

New York City achieved these high ranks in the two studies for our livability, vibrant culture, global relevance, economic opportunity, tourism, and more.
